14th Club Decision

I have been playing the past year with just 13 clubs

Driver

5-Wood

4 Hybrid(22*)

5 iron-Gap

54 and 58 wedges

Putter

 

I really don't have a need for a 14th club but have been thinking recently if I am missing an opportunity to put a club in play that would help me out

I drive the ball about 240/250

I hit my 5 wood about 210/220.  I use it on short par 4 and I also use it to reach greens on par 5's (if the opportunity is there)

My 4 hybrid is my 200yd club and then on down from the 5 iron

54 to chip, 58 out of the sand

 

The only idea I have had is to add a 3 wood dialed down to 16.5 and then dial my 5 wood to 18.5

Maybe use the 3 wood to tee off and off the deck if needed for a little extra distance

 

Anyone other ideas are welcome

If you did can adjust your 5w to a 4w (17*ish) and add a 7w your top end gapping might be spot on.

This is what I would try.  Get a 16.5 or turn your 5 wood down and then get a 7 wood or something like a callaway UW 19.  
or you could get a 62 degree wedge, although it may hurt more than help depending on how you play your wedges…

I could have asked this exact question. My 5 wood is 17.5*. For me I’d either add a 3 wood at 14.5* or a 19* hybrid.

I thought about a 3 Hybrid, but on my home course, I don't have any 210/215 yds shots

Or they don't come up often enough that I think I wish I had a 3 hybrid

No need for a 62* wedge.  The 58* does what I need out of the sand and around the green

 

Now the 7 wood is interesting or maybe a 5 hybrid

I dont hit my 5 iron all that great

I could keep the 5 iron for punching out of the trees, we have a lot of trees on my home course

And use the 7 wood or 5 hybrid as a 5 iron

 

I will keep this in  mind on my next round and see how often I wish I had a 7wood/5 hybrid

or 

I wish I had a 3 wood to tee off right here

I am a big fan of a driving iron if you have the room in your bag for a one-trick pony. Now some driving irons can be hit off the turf just fine, its hit or miss with me. But I am a much better iron player than I am with my woods, so having a go-to club to hit off the tee is a game changer.

Not sure about the Mini Driver

Can you hit it off the deck?

Does it double as a 3 wood?

 

 

I am also thinking of a low spin 3 wood to tee off on shorter par 4's

Not sure how well I would hit that off the deck or how well that would hold a green

Not sure how well I would hit a Mini Driver off the deck either

 

I think it's going to come down to what I hit more often

A 3 wood off the tee or a 5 hybrid for shots about 190/185 instead of a 5 iron

 

Will still take anymore suggestions

I'm in exactly the opposite situation! I've found that my 4H and Heavenwood have too much overlap so I'm likely going to drop the Heavenwood and keep the more versatile 4 hybrid. 

 

I'm auditioning a 16.5* Epic Speed 4 wood to replace my 15* Mavrik three wood. The idea is to have a single fairway wood that is a safe tee option for narrow holes and useful from the turf when needed.

This is the function my 5 wood serves at this moment

Which is why I have been hesitant to add a 3 wood 

I can use my 5 wood on shorter par 4 and I am inside 150 ,140 on my home course

I can drill it off of the turf too

I maybe a little short on some par 5's when going for it in 2, which is why I was considering adding a 3 wood

 

I have to keep this in mind when playing this weekend to see what I would be hitting more often

A 3 wood off the tee or deck or a 5 hybrid in the 190/185 range

I rip the mini off the deck. Way better than a 3
