Knuckles on grip or V's

We've all heard it before (2/3 knuckles on lead hand or the V's in the creases pointing in the area of your right shoulder etc.

 

For some reason I can't wrap my head around this at all and everytime I grip the club and look down I can never figure out how many knuckles I can see. Sometimes I look down and can see 2, sometimes I see 3, sometimes I see the whole back of my hand, it's not because my grip changes, it's because I just can't grasp the idea ta all. My hands are probably fairly small in size so perhaps this makes it more difficult.

 

Anyone have any tips etc?

I use the anatomical snuffbox as a reference instead. 
 

Add On: Also, forearm/shoulder rotations are just as important as where the hands are IMO

You're not alone in this - I find the knuckle description imprecise and so just switch off when ever a swing coach or whomever heads down that path in description. Maybe its easier if you have very pronounced/raised knuckles - I don't.

 

V's for me and/or finger placement on the grip, never knuckles.

Looking for knuckles or V's was always inconsistent for me, too...

Placing the bottom of the shaft between the two lines and then gripping gave me a consistent grip and something I can replicate easily each time.

My tip is to use a reminder/rib - something like the Golfworks Rib kit, so you can use any grip you like with the rib underneath it.

 

'Standard' is to have the rib at bottom dead centre... but you can align it anywhere you like.

 

Mine go on the top under a Bestgrip leather grip - so the rib sits kind of in the left hand 'V', and can be monitored from that. Used on driver and on down to all wedges, too.

Both the Knuckles and Vs references relate to what the golfer sees when addressing the ball with the clubface square. HOWEVER, golfers do not always have the same posture. Some are fairly straight up (vertical) and others tilt back away from the direction of play. I play a strong grip and can see 3 knuckles at address. But I also have some rearward tilt at address. IF I move my torso into a vertical position, I actually see my fourth knuckle!

 

The whole point of these references is that you have something to look at to make sure you have placed your hands on the club in a consistent manner, which is absolutely necessary to deliver the clubface in a consistent manner.

This is much simpler than most people choose to look at it. The grip needs to support the hinge/unhinging of the left wrist/hand package. Left hand grip only needs to be able to lift/hinge the club straight up and down like a hammering motion. Right hand grip need to facilitate the ability to feel the right index finger pad of the right hand on the SIDE of the shaft gripping with the the bottom three fingers.. Typically this will have the "V" point to the right shoulder.
