The networks should collectively can all their color commentators, hire Paul McGinley, and have him rotate around the networks doing golf telecasts. The guy is utterly engaging and tells it like it is. I typically mute the telecasts, but not when he's doing one.

He’s a tall guy too. He had issues with weight when in his prime at golf but kept lapsing. Might be the Guinness.

The Kings course is by far the best course at Gleneagles, far better then the PGA but its just not long enough for the PGA Tour.

I would play the Kings 3 times for every 1 time on the PGA.

Going to be a good week. I do prefer watching it on links courses but the women get a special place for that next week.

I would love to play it or any of the courses in Scotland for that matter whether links or not

It’s a very old and pricey resort in lovely country handy for Edinburgh. Despite the links analogy - no way is this a links. Plays like a heathland course, when they play links-like in hot summers.

P.s. And don’t worry about Monty, I believe he’s moved from Gleneagles; otherwise you’d have to stay silent near his pad.

I've always wondered what the impact on his first wife's health issues impacted his career. People can read up on it if they aren't aware of it. I know he won the Open Championship after his wife's passing but it had to have cost him dearly. As would be expected. Hope he wins this.

Interesting point.

Clarke's career kind of went gradually downhill after 2006 when his wife passed away.

Besides the Open win, he had 3 minor tournament wins after 2006 (2 in 2008 and 1 other in 2011).

The 2006 Ryder Cup was an emotional roller coaster for Clarke.

Clearly playing any sort of golf it’s best to have full concentration. But putting and excess weight were/ are his main problems over time - witness yesterday. His ball-striking has rarely been an issue, apart from an odd time with approach wedges I think. Fine player.

Let's be fair to DC. His lone win in 2011 wasn't exactly a minor tournament win. After all he was the Champion Golfer Of The Year in 2011. Kind of hard to justify your "besides the Open" win comment as a minor victory no?

Clarke won the Iberdrola Open on the European Tour in 2011.

That was the "1 other" win in 2011 "besides the Open win".

Unless you believe the Iberdola Open is a major tournament, then all good then.

I always liked Monty for some reason I guess because my fellow Americans picked on him so badly. I got to meet him one time and bought him a Scotch Johnny Walker of course. I told him I would be honored to buy him a Scotch--- He said on one condition if I let him buy me one-- One of two times in my life I ever drank Scotch. We chatted for about 30 minutes or so and I found him to be likeable

Montgomerie seems like a good bloke off course.

He copped a lot of flack but it seems most of the time it was on the course when obviously it was a pressure cooker.

I’m easy on the winner choice between Broady and Clarkey. Always followed Broady after he pipped my player ( I caddied ) in the Lytham Trophy in 1987. We lost a ball on the last to drop 2 shots. Great his unorthodox swing brings results in the States at his age.

As for Monty, took him a while to get going as a pro but his record and belly point to success.

Many of us knowing David Curry can’t forgive Monty for his gamesmanship in the British Amateur.

It's been on GC each round. Albeit at very early times.

Final round currently airing on Golf Channel. 10.00am Eastern. The leaders have just teed off.

Like to see double E win this. About the only person I don't want to see win is Broadhurst.

I have no idea why... just something about him seems to rub me the wrong way.

Johnny Miller, Jack, and Colin Montgomerie are on my Mount Rushmore of swings…

I feel Monty had/has the best rhythm and tempo planet earth has ever seen…

At the height of his power, few have ever had a lovelier swing imho…still love watching him

His tempo was always perfection and I don't know if you'll ever see better transition - I mean you either have that or you don't.  I don't think you can teach that.  Even though they're very different swings the closest current swing in terms of hypnotic rhythm is Corey Connors.
