back on at 2000, timed it well to watch!

As a trend for this Scottish summer; been a very wet West side and a very dry East side to the country.

I missed it myself as there was a rain delay that held up play for a while. Not wishing to post too many spoilers, Harrington played really well to put some pressure on...

No worries on spoilers for me. I like to know before. Lol. Makes me know it’s worth the time to watch.

Clarke won the Iberdrola Open on the European Tour in 2011.

That was the "1 other" win in 2011 "besides the Open win".

Unless you believe the Iberdola Open is a major tournament, then all good then.

I thought he only won The Open Championship in 2011.

I take back what I said about this course.  Maybe I have clouded judgement of Gleneagles from a previous Ryder or Solheim cup, perhaps on a different GE course.  This one looks absolutely fantastic and I would love to play it.  Really enjoy James Braid courses.

YEs, they played a Ryder Cup on the Centenary Course, which was laid out by Jack Nicklaus.  It was almost criminal to allow him to add a course at Gleneagles.

Oddly enough, the ladies played an event, maybe the Scottish Women's Open, on the Centenary course.  They could have had much more fun playing the Kings.

Johnny Miller, Jack, and Colin Montgomerie are on my Mount Rushmore of swings…

I feel Monty had/has the best rhythm and tempo planet earth has ever seen…

At the height of his power, few have ever had a lovelier swing imho…still love watching him

I agree on swing and tempo. One of the few I have ever seen in the Reverse C era that does not have back problems.

Jack, miller, Jacklin, Tom watson, Seve, Norman, kite, Crenshaw, weiskopf, maggert, pate, Vijay,….

I could go on but the back pain is a myth…

kites was likely the most crazy of them all…

pennick loved jacks swing i reckon Ha

Kite did change to a stacked swing as he didn’t have the timing on wedges for this swing…he tended to block drives too and would get flippy to compensate and would start missing both ways…

anyhow, kites swing was badass as a reverse c and as a modern imho

Although this was my favorite version of his move….circa 1976

I’m easy on the winner choice between Broady and Clarkey. Always followed Broady after he pipped my player ( I caddied ) in the Lytham Trophy in 1987. We lost a ball on the last to drop 2 shots. Great his unorthodox swing brings results in the States at his age.

As for Monty, took him a while to get going as a pro but his record and belly point to success.

Many of us knowing David Curry can’t forgive Monty for his gamesmanship in the British Amateur.

Is this the same year when Olazabal won the British Amateur?

That’s correct I’m sure. Monty lost a lot of respect in not advising DC he’d replaced his ball in the wrong place on the green by not replacing his marker after shifting off his opponent’s line. Nasty issue and not the last with Monty.

Eg. Paying winnings in an Asian event to charity after cheating allegations. He only scraped a vote for the Hall of Fame ( 51% ). Press coverage

“ Clearly, Monty had placed the new ball in the wrong spot — a location that was to his advantage, that improved his lie, that made his stance easy and the shot easier. Did he do so intentionally? That's where the cheating accusation comes in. Some observers believe Monty had to know what he was doing in moving the golf ball an estimated (based on videotape) one foot or so away from its original spot. He must have known because a) it was one foot, rather than a matter of a few inches; and b) surely it would have clicked to him that his stance was suddenly very easy.

Monty cheated: That's what some at the time believed, that's what some today believe.

Tour officials, however, viewed videotape, after Kjeldsen and others brought the incident to light, and made a determination that no rules had been broken. Monty himself watched the video later on, and after doing so admitted he was wrong about the spot of the replacement golf ball. But he was adamant that it was unintentional. (The chief rules official of the European Tour reached the same conclusion, but only after the tournament ended, negating any 2-stroke penalty that might have applied at the time.) Montgomerie apologized, and he donated his paycheck for the tournament to a local charity.”

What was the round and final score for the match?

At least Ollie got the win in the end, Monty still is unhappy he didn't win the British Amateur.

There’s a complete record of the BA on the Web, if I can’t find it for you I’ll get it from my books. DC went onto win the following year I think. Must be the record win. Only one ET win though, short hitter - good putter, pity.

Harrington is remarkably long for his age, way longer than he was at his peak. It shows the long driving can be practiced and trained as a skill.

Oh yes he has trained and built his body up to it. Watch him with the driver he will do 5 practice swings getting faster with each swing. That way he builds up to it without hurting himself

I meant the score and round (e.g. 1st, 2nd, QF etc.) between your boy and Monty when he didn't replace his marker.

I know but I’d have to go through the newspaper archive or my old books. I’ll PM you when I find out. Cheers ps DC worked down the road from me until recently, as a chef, not sure where he is now, I’m playing today so I’ll try and find him. He’s still local.

The problem is most people don't have the work ethic and desire to put into that Paddy does. If you have a HOF career like he has had there are very few who are willing to grind it out.
