Fitted into Srixon Today, Any Enthusiasts?

Heatonjm

Recommended Posts

I did my first “real” fitting today at Club Champion. Ended up fitting into ZX7’s and the ZX Utility Iron. I never thought I would consider a Srixon club but I was blown away by the feel and the consistency of my strikes with that head.

I just wanted to see any general thoughts on those that play Srixon, or have played them. I was floored by the cost of custom clubs so I am expecting these to be my gamers for a LONG time. I guess, maybe I’m just looking for some positive affirmation LOL

Bought a set of 785 irons 3 seasons ago and absolutely love them.  I haven’t even considered another set of irons since then.  The feel and consistency is pretty damn amazing.  The one knock seems to be low spin, I have not experienced that yet…fwiw our courses have been pretty dry this year and the greens are pretty hard.  I spun back an 8i from 145 the other night, I was shocked.  Anyway, I MAY consider a new set of irons next year and they will be Srixon…but I wouldn’t bet on it, these are gonna be in the bag a long time.  If you’re wondering I have them with PX LZ 6.5’s.

Was first intrigued by Srixon more back in 2006 in my early days on the board and posting about the 506s back at a demo day.  Then they were out of the US market for a decade before coming back. I loved the 565s but wasn't crazy about the shafts. The ZX5s are the perfect iron for me.

The ZX7s feel better than the ZX5s and have more forgiveness than you'd ever expect. You're going to love them. Did you buy from CC or just get the fitting?

Srixon makes a great product and are appreciated by many here. As to cost you aren't under any obligation to purchase what you were fit into from Club Champion. Get the specs you were fit into from them and purchase elsewhere. Will save you significant money.

Pretty much every generation of the Srixon 7 series irons and utility irons have been really solid and the latest ones are particularly good.  As good as anything in these categories.

Great info and thoughts. I’m really excited to get these in and in the bag. My game has been stuck for some time and this feels like a difference maker. We will see. Great to hear that others enjoy their clubs. Got Modus Tour 120’s in these.

On Club Champion, apologies if this should be in another thread, but what you’re all saying is interesting. I paid $100 for a full bag fitting on a special, which I thought was a fair price. I was prepared for extra cost but felt like I make this investment once and get all the analysis and then I can shop on my own in the future with knowledge of my specs.

Here’s a question for y’all: the upcharge seems to come from getting the swing weight right and letting them Pure the clubs. Without that, there was no upcharge for the same shaft thru Srixon. I tried to read a couple articles and it seemed like both can make a difference. Any thoughts on if that actually matters? Or would I get the same experience just buying OEM?

I’m okay with what I did just for the learning experience, but would like to know how to think about any future purchases.

Thanks guys!

What shafts did you end up with? If srixon offers them then the buy from discount Dan and then go get loft and lies checked after.

I've played Srixon irons for around 8 years. They are a quality company and make products as good as anything out there.

I've actually hit their irons (Endo forged) against Miuras and Mizunos and to me the Srixons feel the best. There is nothing like and Endo forging IMO, at least that I've hit anyway.

My sense is that Srixon were thought of as "just a ball company" for a long time, but the tide is definitely turning. I see more and more Srixon irons in other peoples' bags. They'll never have the same dominance as TM and Callaway, but then they only spend a fraction of what those companies do on marketing.

Either way, you can't go wrong with their products.

Modus Tour 120 in X Stiff. Srixon did offer them at No upcharge. But the guy sold me on getting the right Swingweight (D3 vs D6 or something).  Is that a waste of money? It was $88 per club for their version of the shaft  and then $35 per for the puring.

Modus 120 is the stock shaft for the ZX7.  Me personally, I'd buy elsewhere and have the clubs built by Srixon.  The Pure benefit is debatable with most shafts.  It's one of those things where it certainly doesn't hurt but it's difficult to validate that it helps.  Nippon makes a quality product and I would not be concerned at all about performance with a standard, logo down, shaft installation.  Srixon might not accommodate a D6 swing weight request.  If that's a concern, you can order the irons without the grips installed and have any quality club builder add weight down the shaft to meet your desired swing weight spec and then install the grips.  That would save you around $100 per club (potentially more is you find a retailer selling the irons below retail price).

CC's swing weight fitting is a topic of frequent debate on this forum.  I'm not trying to talk you out of D6 but I think CC's tendency to fit players into these high swing weights is questionable.

No one around here likes Srixon. You probably won’t find a single post on them. 😉

I decided to bring Srixon irons into my club for fitting purposes based on my own experience with them and many of my members' love for them. I have not heard a negative thing about their irons. I have not heard much about their woods. I like the look of their hybrids. I'd have no problem telling you that you will like your irons should you order them. Again, this is just an opinion. However, I will say that I am a staffer for another company now and have many times considered switching to Srixon irons next season no matter what, even though I love my current irons. They are that impressive for me. Once more, just my opinion. They may not be great for everyone.

Order from brick and mortar store directly from Srixon.  Have them check them when they come in.  If they are not right, send them back and made right, that is their job.  CC is a pure rip off if you are getting charged that much.

Still game their irons and have 0 plans on switching.  They are very nice.  The dispersion front to back is tight.  That was a major selling point for me.

I swear this is the last time I’ll type this.

The reason that no one should use CC is that they use adapters that raise swing weight to around D6. If virtually anyone hits a mid to short iron at D6 then swings the same one at closer to D0, the D0 club will at best be very difficult to control. When they then build your clubs at D6, you will probably find that the short irons work quite well, since they’re likely at a similar SW to your wedges. Your long irons will be another story.

To many, they will be borderline unplayable. After you practice with them (since it’s you rather than the club), your ability to hit your woods/hybrids at D0/D2 will tend to degrade, which of course has nothing to do with the irons at D6.

Do NOT buy your clubs from CC. You ever heard of “dealer pad” on a car??? A  “special coating” on the window sticker, or some other random cost outside of the car’s actual price? Yeah, that’s what CC does, same thing! Do NOT buy your clubs from them unless you just want to pay more. If Srixon couldn’t build their clubs to spec do you think ANYONE would order through a general golf store and have the clubs come direct from Srixon? I ordered ZX5/ZX7 combo set through my rep and everything came-in on-point. No issues. Seriously. Don’t bother buying through CC, it’s all just pad!!!

great call here pmookie. I was a club pro ages ago and took a really long break from the game - in 2020 we lost everything in a forest fire. A month after the fire I decided to get back into golf.. Got a fitting at club champion - same story. Taylor made heads though.

I ordered from them : same Modus shafts / pured / d6 swing weight/ 1* up / 1/2” long

It was ridiculous - I paid like 2k+ for the set I could’ve gotten for 700$ less.

Ended up not digging them in real world play and benched them. my fitting specs from them weren’t even thoughtful. Just generalized. Since then I’ve moved to 785’s and flat. Love Srixon anythingZ - such great product.

Long story short, club champion is an interesting experience, but pay a 100$ For the fitting and get a few beers while you’re there…

then go to a demo day at an actual golf course if possible.. or buy a used set with your specs to give he’ll.

I would tell you from my personal experience that I would not buy from them. it’s just insane upcharge for no return. My .02

Srixon irons are great, love my 585/785 combo set, I'd plan to keep them for a lot longer but have a feel I'll need a shaft change soon-ish.

As for you order definitely cancel that if you can and order directly from Srixon or from a local pro or someone with an account. Srixon is good a checking/building clubs too.

I’ve been playing the ZX5’s the past season or two.  I’ve loved every round with them, great feel for a “GI” iron, but I just bought a New Level 623cb 7 iron and put it into play a month ago.  It felt so much better (softer) than my ZX, that I was and still keeping it in the bag until I can get a full set.

Love my zx7 set

just have any shop other them … not CC

ask for your specs ,  I’d suggest progressive weighting from d3 to d6

any builder could pull the heads and add a tip weight to hit swing weights u want … but certainly Srixon can
