Stealth Driver not launching???

I really really wanted to get fitted into the Stealth.  So much that I had my fitter try maybe 3x the number of shafts that we tried in other heads.  Just could not get anything that worked for me.  105mph club head with 6-7 AoA, and every almost other head worked better.  I was disappointed.  But also very happy with what my eventual winner was

Which version please ? Strange if the standard version.

We looked at the standard and the Plus.  I was very surprised that we couldn't get something to work. Anything with decent launch and spin was all over the place, and anything with good dispersion was short.  Also I kinda hated the feel of it, but I would have gotten over that if the results were there.  The Stealth works so well for one of my regular playing partners I thought for sure it would work for me

Maybe it's just my luck, none of the clubs I wanted to get were what worked best for me.  My new driver goes out for the first time on Sunday, so we'll see how good the fit was.

Range balls are designed for durability, not performance. They typically fly lower, spin less, carry shorter, and travel less total distance than the ball you play on the course. Depending on the range ball, the differences can be anywhere from 10-20%. As long as the range balls aren’t terrible, you should get consistent results for consistent performance anyway. If not, it still sounds ill fit to me.

If you just don’t like the club, then dump it, but I wouldn’t expect GG to make any significant concessions unless the club is obviously and visually defective, i.e. cracked face, separated crown, compromised  structural integrity, etc. Maybe you can hit it on a monitor and compare those results with a demo to draw some kind of conclusion.

RE  : range balls actually spin 1100-1800 rpm more off the driver but apex almost the same and are up to 7 yards shorter : read MGS lab on range balls performance

It’s interesting because there’s a lot of conflicting information about range ball performance. I can only assume that variation is due to the nature of a ball that’s been produced to be endlessly beaten while sustaining as little damage as possible. Ultimately, it probably depends on the type and condition of the ball being tested. For example, a brand new range ball, used in the test you reference, will probably spin more than a ball with significant dimple wear. MGS even mentioned this at the conclusion of the study.

“Once a ball is turned loose on the range, there typically aren’t any quality standards. Visit most any range and it’s pretty clear that nobody is actively trying to remove the damaged balls. Dimples wear, covers cuts and gouges … so what? Even a small amount of damage can impact golf ball performance”

Yes, there’s a turning point when you get to the top end of the bag in regards to spin and to a lesser extent, some of the other measurables, but I was trying to be as generic as possible with that statement. Still, the numbers you provided were at the highest swing speed tested and in comparison to their average and lowest spinning balls. Across the entire test, which include multiple swing speeds and a variety of premium golf balls, the average spin increase with a driver was 250 rpm, which is somewhat negligible for an average golfer. Basically the equivalent of change to a degree of loft or a very minor CPM change. I’m also guessing most players aren’t hitting brand new range balls on a regular basis, but it is interesting that flight characteristics are fairly similar in the other categories for their test.

There’s also a direct positive correlation in the characteristics mentioned as we move lower through the bag, with short irons being affected significantly more in every measurable condition than a driver. As mentioned, it’s even more notable at higher swing speeds for obvious reasons.

Regardless, the exact test you mention makes the same point I was trying to make in the subsection titled “RANGE BALL AERODYNAMICS ARE NOT OPTIMIZED FOR PERFORMANCE - Not that range balls do crazy things in the air but at least be aware that optimization of ball flight is often a secondary concern. The primary goal is durability. They need to withstand thousands of shots.”

Basically, my point wasn’t that range balls perform a certain way, it was that range balls aren’t a good indicator of club performance or fitting because they aren’t designed for it, and I think the testing you mentioned does a good job of explaining that idea.

I wouldn't be too despondent.  There is divided opinion about the best driver of 2022 between the TM Stealth, Cobra Ltdx LS, and the Callaway Rogue. I think the TM is highly regarded because of the wide range of stock and aftermarket shafts. However the Cobra and Rogue (no Ventus Velecore shafts offered in the UK) are equally as good with the optimised shaft for the individual.

I had this problem with my stealth plus 9degr aswell. Added 5gr of lead in the stt weight port with a huge improvement in launching the ball. With the 4gr standard weight it was the same swing weight as my previous sim 1 but launch came out almost dead. I never really liked the look of leadtape and were not willing to wait weeks for weight delivery. Cut and flattened out 5gr of graphite tip weight and it fit right into the standard port.

Switching the hzrdus 6.5 for a accra tz5 also made the ball launch higher with better spin.

Went from flying under the radar waiting to be replaced to a True stealth bomber. Couldnt be more satisfied with the performance right now.
