Mizuno S23 Wedges

I thought so as well, but Mizuno has updated their site for the ST23 woods, but no mention of the S23 wedges.

Wedges are up on golfbox (Australian website) and available from the 10th of Feb, same as 923 forged and tour irons. Woods are up as well but not available until 10th of March. They're insanely expensive here.

Here in the US, S23 seems to be a bit cheaper than others (and no upcharge for custom shaft and grip). I think Mizuno learned something from the epic failure from ES wedge pricing.

They're AUD 340, $80 more than RTX6 with standard 115 shaft. I can't imagine many people apart from true Mizuno sickos are going to buy these. The brand in general is expensive here, USD to AUD conversion would have the new drivers at $725AUD but they're retailing for $999.

I really like the look of these compared to the CBX2 etc, would be keen to give at least a 55/56 a shot. My t100 50 degree is my favourite club for the solid spin and flight and reliable forgiveness and no matter how good I get with 56/60 sm9 wedges I normally have at least one or two a round that I spin way too much and catch off the toe, leading to a shot landing 5-10 short and spinning back hard. As a ‘good’ wedge player I can never understand why these clubs haven’t really taken off. I play with a lot of guys with 60/62/64 wedges they can’t hit them cleanly more than once a round and then are delighted with that one shot, when they could have better results and plenty of spin with something like this

 

 

certainly seems to be no issue opening the face with the right technique!

Seriously considering this if GW sole is not outrageously thick. Currently playing t20 gw. The copper color model seems to be a bit lighter than t22?

I don’t know what he’s saying but I like it! I currently have CBX2 wedges in the bag and really like them. However, I am really intrigued by these. If they perform as well as my CBX wedges, but have forged feel they will be in my bag.

Every morning I check on youtube to see a new s23 wedge review... I did watch those Japanese ones (can understand a bit as I studied Japanese decades ago) but they are not enough 🙂

Hopefully the new S23 wedge and Zipcore wedges will get some YouTube reviews soon. I know Askgolfnut said he would have a review coming soon.

He can be a bit long winded but he does a great job. If Mizuno have been able to get the stability and consistency of the e21 wedge but put it in a traditional profile combined with different sone grinds and forged feel it would be a home run.

Always good work by these guys. Showed just what I was hoping for, really good from the toe with no drop off in distance and very tight spin and launch windows. I will be them in hand next week but pretty good chance these have a chance of getting in the bag this year.

They also didn’t really any mention that these are for only high handicaps. Basically targeting anyone from scratch to mid to high teens, similar to Ping Glides. 
 

Only issue and or moreso a question is why did Mizuno skip and not offer the 48 degree? JPX Forged PW at 44, HM/HMP at 42.5, and HM HL at 45. Think this may cause of a bit of a gapping and/or bag set up issue for those that opt out of the set GW. Kinda of a bummer.

I am ordering two gap wedges. One for me at 51 and one for my buddy at 50. Happy that mizuno doesn't upchage recoil 95 shaft and mcc plus 4 grip. The only choice left is the color... Anyway, this seems to be the perfect gap wedge.

Are mizuno still bending wedges so that 44 and 48 degree wedges are the same wedge both Bent from a standard 46 degree leaving the 48 with no offset and  the 44 with alot of offset?

this is a great question.

i know most of the progression is 1 degree of loft and 1 degree of bounce so it would make sense that its the same mold. 4 degrees is a lot to bend though...

I believe they have even loft std heads then they bend 1* strong or weak to get to the odd number lofts.

For example the C grind head is 58* and they’ll bend it 2 weak or 2 strong to give options from 56* to 60*

Is that normal for OEMs to bend wedges like that?

At the end of this video, I think they have these wedges raw and badge-less. Might grab em if they release raw.
