Mizuno S23 Wedges

CBX wedges are definitely forgiving, maybe even more so. I was just commenting on the tech/design of the S23 and that it works.

How long custom orders take? I ordered about a week ago from golfio… haven’t gotten past awaiting fulfillment at this point. Curious what lead time had been if anyone ordered custom

2 weeks.  I ordered PX 6.5 rifle shafts.

Recoil 95 F4 is also my preferred shaft. Mizuno also offer my favourite grip (Iomic Sticky 2.3) at no upcharge as well, which makes these a no brainer. 

 

Most other manufacturers charge between $40-$100 for the Recoils and $10-15 for the grip, assuming they even offer it. 😬

I’m only 6d away from the order so I wasn’t expecting it this fast, but was curious. I got dynamic goldx100 and s300 so I assume it will be reasonably fast.

Depends, are you talking fluffy sand or hard pack sand? If it’s fluffy, generally you will want to go high bounce, if it’s packed you will want to go low bounce.

 

Personally in the T22 range I go S with 12 degrees of bounce in my 54 then C with 8 degrees of bounce in my 58.

Generally speaking you’ll want more bounce so it doesn’t just dig and bury in the sand resulting a shot you dump 5 feet in front of you. 
 

Typically you want one higher and one lower bounce so you have your bases covered given you’ll get varying conditions in a round.

fwiw i ordered through golfdiscount on march 9th. 3 wedge s23 set. was told 2 weeks but they just reached out today and said they spoke with mizuno who says they are behind and likely won't ship til the first week of april. so looking closer to a month on actually getting them in hand from date of order.

Does anyone have experience/insight as to how these compare with the S18 in terms of on course performance? I currently game an S18 50* that at times I’ve had a love/hate relationship with, though I like the idea of a more forgiving “speciality” wedge as my gap, since I’ll use it for certain around the green shots in addition to full approaches.

i ended up ordering 58 C grind (8 degrees bounce), and 52 S grind (10 degrees bounce) but will bend to 54 so will be more like 12 degrees bounce

Wow, not great QC from Mizuno. This is brand new, completely stock, in-wrapper, ordered from a retailer

Mizuno also screwed up my last custom build with them as well.

 

I have some S23s on order so hopefully they get those right.

Wow im hearing quite a few quality control issues at mizuno. Also hearing 223 and jpx forged are having bad gaping issues.

I had a set of s18s. Liked them and dumbly traded for vokeys. Liked the s18 more. What love/hate is going on?

Mine has some super minor imperfection. I don't mind at all. However, it is a total myth that those Japanese brands are better with QC. They are just like other major oems.

excellent wedge.   I only have 2 rounds on them but they feel great.  I'm glad I matched the shafts to my irons and didn't go with any wedge flex type of shaft.  Fit and finish are perfect and the loft was spot on.   I didn't need them bent when I checked the lie angle.

Just some inconsistency at time on full shots, particularly with distance. I'm a bit steeper, so wonder if the 7* of bounce on the S18 is just a bit too low (though I know the S23 50* is only one degree more at 8). For reference, average ball striker as a high single digit HCP. Play Zx7 in my PW that I have a better time with.

I find Vokey to lose terrible yardages toe side specifically, that’s my miss. Anxious to see how these play

I just played SM8s for the last 2 years and my miss is almost always toeside.  I can say that these lose much less distance off toe than the Vokeys.  These also look just as good down by the ball and feel much softer and to me more satisfying.

Traditional blade wedge heel side cog just doesn’t love the toe miss. 
 

Im thrilled glides/zipcores/s23s have been striving to address this for the 99.99% of the world that isn’t making a living playing golf. I wonder if even the pros would benefit from more central; it’s traditional build that left the cog where it was… nothing else. Even vokey is playing the COG moving game, but with the pros growing up on this traditional type wedge that demand from the best players is real and still here. 
 

While every other club in the bag has gone thru massive multiple tech revolutions, wedges have stayed similar for a long time. Nice to see companies in the past 5y pushing more into wedges beyond groove tech. Hydrophobic coatings, cor movements, etc.
