Scottsdale current course condition

Hi,

 

Coming over from Scotland on 7th of September to play the following courses in Scottsdale area.

 

TPC Champions.

We-ko-pa Saguaro.

We-ko-pa Cholla.

Golf Club of Estrella.

Verde River.

Southern Dunes.

 

Has anybody played any these courses recently and can provide an update on their condition ?

You can go over to the conditions thread here in the southwest forum for an up to the minute conditions update; however even two weeks from now the courses will be playing a little differently than right now.  In most cases the conditioning will be better IMO.  Most greens right now are still healing from significant aeration taking place in July and August.  By early september the greens should be much smoother.  We have had significant rain, so courses may start to taper back the watering a little early for overseed late sept-october.  Courses will also start to methodically scalp down the fairways and rough (usually not too noticeable early sept) so you may encounter a bit firmer and faster conditions, but less green.  Coming from Scotland you will still consider it soft and slow.  Generally I really like playing in september.  Courses are firmer and faster than typical summer conditions.  Greens are much better than mid summer.

Southern Dunes: 3 days ago, great shape, you won't be disappointed. Bring some bug repellant.

Cholla: 2 weeks back, great shape, a stern test.

Saguaro: Early July, not as good as the first 2, condition-wise. Should be great by now.  Plenty of room off the tee. 

TPC Champions: Mid-June. Was in average summer condition in June. Should be better now.

I played TPC Champs on Sunday and it was in great shape.  The greens were as good as any I've played this summer.  Smooth, relatively quick, and no bare spots to speak of.  Fairways were pretty good, just some bare spots around the edges but nothing worth noting.

 

Im playing Cholla this weekend but I haven't been there since late spring so I can't comment on current conditions.

 

Southern Dunes should be in good shape.  It was pretty good last time I played it and it's only had more time to recover from the aeration.  Id assume the fairways will be a bit wet because Troon courses notoriously overwater everything but it should be good overall.  Bunkers there are always hit or miss.  

 

Are you playing Verde River with a member?  I think they went full private last winter.  Hopefully conditions are good there now that they are private.  It was always hit or miss.

Played angry birds at Top Golf Gilbert.  Course was in really great shape very consistent lies but often a good shot didn't get rewarded with complete destruction of the lame birds structure.  Water and sand surrounding the bird structures was perfect.  I mean literally perfect as if it was fake. Food after the turn was ok, but the fans and misters throughout the round was awesome.  Nice design feature.  Doak should take note.  Only downside was a bit of ambient noise.  Other than that great course and conditions.

Thanks for the update, Verda River isnr't going private until later in the year but you can't book on the website. I email them and got 3 tee timess for 10 golfers.  Played it back in 2012 when it was Vista Verda, really like the layout but at the time it didn't have a club house so looking forward to see it now before it going private.  Thansk again Charlie.

Saguaro is in great shape.  I played it last Wednesday.  I saw Alice Cooper there as well.  I was told Cholla was in good shape, too.

Poston Butte in decent shape except for the greens.  They were aerated sometime ago, but still show the holes and the greens are bumpy and slow.
