Ballnamic

Ok I finally broke down and did the ballnamic ball fitting just to see how close it was to the balls ive tested. I plugged everything in exactly as I know it give or take a number or two. It threw out 5 balls that I've NEVER even tried! It has me as I should be playing the Chrome Soft X at 96.3% and the Bridgestone B XS at 95.7% Now it's got me puzzled at just how accurate this is. Maybe I should just get a sleeve of each of these Balls and pick the best of these 2.

Both balls recommended are really good. I’m playing Bridgestone Tour BX and pleased with it, but if I was going to switch it would probably be the Chrome Soft X. I don’t know your numbers, but I’m thinking that the reason Ballnamic recommended what it did is because maybe you tend to launch your irons higher than optimal and need a touch more spin to hold the ball in the air longer on the back end of flight.

Ping is an engineering company that makes golf clubs and ball testing is their fun side gig plus it helps their players. For the testing they actually wait for perfect outdoor conditions and test even if 3am they'll go out and just launch balls with their robot. So they have lots and lots of data with every premium ball, club speed, launch, etc. I'd say that it could be a very good recommendation especially if you put in actual launch numbers.

Like you said you should test those balls, get a sleeve or two of each and hit the course. I've been wanting to enter my info into Ballnamic but I cannot cause I'm in Canada and payment is USA only.

I just used the Ballnamic fitting tool as well.

My highest recommendations were Bridgestone B XS, Bridgestone B X, Maxfli Tour and Vice Pro Plus.

The program estimates that I'm leaving +/- 8 yards of driver distance on the table with the Srixon Q Star Tours I normally play. That's relatively significant when my average distance is only 238.

I recently spent some money on a driver shaft fitting and I trust those results. It can't hurt to give some of these balls a try. My issue is I have lots of golf balls around here in various states of use. 😕

The Maxfli Tour and Snell that I had tested before my foot surgery was not even a recommendation to me. That kind of blowed my mind! I've got 2 more months to heal before I get to play again. But come Nov hopefully I can try these 2 that ballnamic recommended.

Anyone know if there are any DTC ball that would Match up VERY close to these?

Here is some data from a robot test with driver SS of 115, 8 iron SS of 87 for 8 iron, and a 55yd wedge shot. While robotic data is a good thing it is only done at one launch condition. While the comparison data is useful it’s not the only consideration when choosing a ball. Where Ping does it different is they have a robot and a ball cannon that can produce thousands of different launch conditions. Since Ping doesn’t make golf balls, they don’t have a dog in the fight so their findings are impartial. I’m not sure if they can or will, but maybe you can email them and ask what DTC ball would be the closest in performance to what they recommended for you.

Well one thing I'm liking about the recommendation is The Bridgestone Ball. I've always been a big Srixon Fan but my 2nd favorite is Bridgestone. So if that Ball works well for me, I'd pretty be pretty happy and play it as my ONE ball. I'm tired of playing around with different balls. I'm ready to settle on the one that's right for me and go with it. The only thing I hate is paying 50 bucks for balls, but if they are what I need then I will

I’m a big Bridgestone fan. I’ve played the Tour B X for almost 3 years as my main ball. My #2 is Vice Pro that I play in the winter. I actually played the Vice Pro every round on a 10 day golf trip and they performed as good as anything.

How close would the Vice Pro be to The B XS?

XS will spin a more off the irons and inside 70yds, fly lower off the driver and irons, and feel a touch softer.

I just went ahead and ordered the Vice Sample Pack just so I could try the Pro Plus and the pro soft as well as the pro. That way I can see if either of those 3 match up to the CSX or B XS. But again my primary ball will come out of these few choices. I will be done testing to find my one and only Ball.

My top 4 in order were BX, BXS, Vice Pro Plus, and Snell MTB-X. I was playing a pro V1X. I've got all four now and I'm testing them to find a winner. The MTB-X basically performs almost exactly the same as the Pro V1x for me. After testing the vice pro plus I was getting a little better distance on drives and the irons seemed similar in distance and spin to the V1x. The BXS was getting better distance with the driver but any mishit resulted in much higher side spin than I was used to. The BX had similar or better distance than the BXS without as much side spin on a poorly struck drive. I'm going to keep testing the Pro Plus, BX, and BXS for the rest of the season to find one to stick with for next year.

Mine was CSX, BXS, Maxfli Tour X, and CSX LS. I'm kinda surprised it didn't throw one of the Vice balls at me.

Say you went to a driver fitting -

Welcome Sir, today you’ll be purchasing a 65g Bentus Blue in S.

But, I haven’t even hit anything yet!
Ah, but you don’t matter Sir. Robot tests show that the Bendus Blue is the best shaft for your swing speed.

So the club head, attack angle, swing path, launch angle, and spin rate don’t matter?
Dude, it’s a *ROBOT*.

Hopefully no one would be foolish enough to buy a shaft based on a robot test, since a robot clearly doesn’t represent the individual characteristics that motivate us to be fitted in the first place. The ball is more an individual fit yet, as it’s at the end of the kinetic chain. It’s effected by both the player and the club. A robot is effectively only any other golfer with a lower than normal dispersion. It does not represent you.

Moreover, the robot can be setup to produce virtually any result. Take the current MGS test, where their 8 iron is producing 185 yard shots. They did that by delofting the club to the point of becoming a 6 iron in order to minimize the differences in distance/spin/launch angle between compression groups (where they hammered on low compression balls). In this case, their robot represents no one at all.

The Balmaniac clearly has favorite balls that perform well with their robot setup. The CS family appears to be a leader here. How well do their results correlate to your on-course performance?

I will not know how well until I can get out on the course and play them. I just purchased a few of the top 2 favorites and got the sample pk of Vice balls because they are the only DTC ball I haven't tried. Hopefully the best ball for me are in these few balls.

I emailed ballnamic support to ask them about how comparable the Vice Pro was to the B XS they recommended. This wax their response.....

"Your likely to experience slightly more distance off-the-tee with the Tour B XS, better wind performance, better flier prevention, more greenside spin, and softer putter feel than the Vice Pro"

Good luck with the healing and comeback.   I had to miss a few years of golf also and it was anxious times waiting to see how I would feel and how well I would  play

Thanks yeah I had 2 foot surgeries in last 10 months. This last one they lengthened my Achilles tendon, so that's what I've been waiting on this time.

I did it and it said I'm losing 5 yds from driving distance and asked me to pay the price of a dozen balls to see recommendations. Seeing as I average 270, I really don't care about 5 more yards at this point as my ball (Snell MTB Black) is working great. And... 5 yds is a wash in swing effort, course conditions, and accuracy.

Well not sure about this ballnamic deal. I've tested both Top 2 balls they recommended, BXS and Chrome Soft X. While both of these are good Balls, I also tested the Vice Pro, Pro Soft, and Maxfli Tour. These 3 balls for me was every bit as good if not better than the BXS and CSX. Just as good check up around the greens and I hit them Just as far as the higher priced balls. Don't waste your money on ballnamic just go out and test them for yourself.

- As others have stated Ballnamic is a Ping program which makes it golf ball brand agnostic.

- In my opinion, it is "engineered" to provide a golfer with a 'trial list' of balls regardless of brand

- I am 71 - hdcp 6.9 w/ driver ss varies 82 -88 mph (depending on my back that day) with carry distance 215-230 yds

- For many years I played Bridgestone RX exclusively; then, I discovered Mr. Dean Snell's company. A test pack on-course evaluation led me to MTB-X over MTB Black and B'stone RX

- Played MTB-X exclusively with better short game results.

- MSG's most recent testing showed, with MY 'profile', for total driver distance the range between ALL balls MSG tested was 8 yards. Really?. That is 1/2 club for me

- Ballnamic ($39 gives you 5 different ball performance characteristics' profiles to evaluate)

- My results showed in order Chrome Soft X/Maxfli Tour were better matches to my profile than Snell MTB-X by 5% and 1% respectively in 4 of the 5 evaluations

- Been testing on-course since June - Maxfli Tour dropped out early for much shorter carry distance both driver and irons . CSX is consistently 5-8 yds longer than MTB-X for me from tee; iron distance is +/- 2-3 yds depending upon club (need lofts checked?); short game spin is same for me.

- I am retired and on fixed income.

- Is CSX worth ~$1.50 ball?

- Maybe I can 'con' either children or grandchildren to buy me a dozen or two for Christmas!

It's odd how many people has said CSX is the first choice form ballnamic. It makes me wonder. Anyway I did not like the CSX from the get go, It was short for my irons. Driver distance was no more than the Vice and Maxfli Tour. So I have now come to the conclusion that Vice and Maxfli are very good Balls for a fraction of the cost over top brands. Vice is really a very good ball and hard to beat, I will save those $$ to pay for a round of golf and I will likely be playing Vice exclusively.
