Patagonia Jackets for golf

Has anyone ever worn any Patagonia jackets for golf?? Obviously I'm talking about the lightweight insulated jackets and not parkas lol.

I'm interested in the Nano puff, Micro puff or Nano Air.  Just wondering if anyone has any experience with these jackets for golf. Just want to make sure they don't restrict too much from a golf swing.

EDIT : I have to add. The goal here is to find a INSULATED jacket that is very warm but thin and stretchy at the same time. I own the Norse jacket. So i am good for 40 degree temps and lower. The norse is sometimes too warm for 50s. i want something (INSULATED) that can i can wear in the 40s and 50s with maybe a very thin layer under. i feel as though the Patagonia NANO AIR is def warm and thin enough and may have stretch.. i may just have to buy and try it out.

I don't own a Patagonia one, but I have had similar jackets from other brands (Barbour, North Face, ect.) and I personally wouldn't use them for golf. I also don't typically play if it's so cold that I need something other than a thermal layer and a quarter zip.

If you're wanting something to play in there are plenty of similar options from more golf focused brands. Like this one for example - https://www.petermillar.com/p/all-course-camo-jacket/mf22ez16a.html?dwvar_mf22ez16a_color=BLK

I have the Patagonia Nano puff, I wouldn't use it for golf, I would find the shoulders too restrictive for golf, but I have very wide shoulders.

I have the Arcteryx LT in both the hoodie and the vest. Best lightweight insulation I’ve ever owned, and the stretch panels on the side make it appropriate for literally any aerobic or dynamic movement activity, let alone golf. I can comfortably wear the hoody from ~30-55, and the vest from ~45-65 depending on what’s underneath.

https://arcteryx.com/us/en/shop/mens/atom-lt-vest

I wear the vest to play anytime it’s chilly, and the hoodie to hit balls. I don’t love hitting in weather that requires the hoodie, but it’s certainly doable if you don’t mind the hood and have nice winter gloves.

I considered getting a more “golf specific” vest this winter, but the LT is such a great product that I think I’d just be wasting money!

I was raised in the upper Midwest, so used to (even miss) cold and deep snow.  Now, I live in SOCA, where 35-40' temps during our silly winter are no surprise.  Two-birds with one stone.  I have a Zero WhisperSoft Goretex Tour Jacket & matching Tour Pants as rain gear.  But when temps are 30-40' I wear the Tour jacket, and been known to wear it when in the mountains and snow country too.  No actual insulation, but Goretex does the trick down to 20' for me.  Another option.

The nano puffs don’t stretch at all as stated above.
the Norse zoned is good for the temp you want but the insulation is just on the the chest and upper back.
some of the waffle backed fleece pullovers work very well in the 50s. They are thin, stretchy and you can wear them over a thin long sleeve shirt

the Footjoy hybrid jacket is a good option too. It’s really thin. But insulated everywhere but the sleeves

I wouldn't try the micro for golf, being an goose down jacket it's going to be very thick. Nano puff is a great jacket for a lot of things, but having no stretch means you'll need a loose fitting one to swing in - which IMO isn't ideal for golf. I have a nano puff and rarely/never play in it. The nano puff vest on the other hand works pretty well as a golf vest. I've never worn a nano air, but I have a friend that plays in the vest from time to time.

TBH with you though - I'd look away from Patagonia and look to a golf company for your jacket. Patagonia makes great products, but they aren't designing for golf whereas other companies are. I know that at the very least Zero Restriction, Peter Millar, Kjus, Galvin Green, Stitch, Footjoy, and g4 all make jackets designed for golf that offer targeted insulation. I'm sure there are more too. I could go climbing in my Zero Restriction jacket, but Patagonia makes better products for that; and I could play golf my Patagonia gear, but Zero Restriction makes better products for golf.

The Nano Air (not Nano Puff) is what you'd be looking for, it's a stretchy lightweight insulated climbing jacket with all the range of motion you'll need. It's roughly equivalent to the Arc'Teryx Atom LT. Both are excellent jackets.

Personally though I go a slightly different route more towards layering for wind, cold, and rain. I typically use a non-insulated ultralight stretchy softshell (an old Marmot Lightspeed) for elements protection, then pair with either a standard performance fleece (like Patagonia's R1) and/or Nano Puff vest. The ultralight climbing softshells are simply amazing, they pack down to nothing and be carried anywhere, worn over a tshirt in the low 70s F, or over a number of layers as low as the mid 20s F. There's a number of options from the Black Diamond Alpine Start  @8oz or Arc'Teryx Gamma LT @17oz which is widely considered one of the best technical shells ever made (or the Gamma SL @10z).

I don't buy into the purpose made golf gear, mainly because they just don't have the budget or tech to make as high quality tech gear that the big companies like Patagonia, Arc'Teryx, etc do. Stick with stretchy climbing oriented gear and you can't go wrong.

this is part of the reason why id like to venture away from golf specific gear and see how they perform. I feel like bigger companies like you mentioned have superior tech behind their gear.

So do you own the Air Nano ?? have you been out on the course with it ?? enough stretch ?? warm enough for 40+ degree temps ??

I don't personally have the Nano Air, a buddy has one he loves but doesn't golf. Another absolutely raves about his Atom LT. As I mentioned my go to is more layered approach with a non-insulated stretchy softshell for elements protection. This spring we played 2 rounds in Wisconsin, it was about 45F all day pouring rain and windy. I was absolutely perfect in my Marmot Lightstream shell, a R1 fleece, and a Nano Puff vest. I know not ideal from a cost perspective for 3 separate pieces, but in the midwest it's all about layering. My buddies without real tech gear were miserable.

Have a 8am tee time tomorrow with the starting temp forecast of 40 degrees.  Have an old Marmont soft shell insulated jacket that works perfect.  Has plenty of room to move in & can layer underneath if need be.  Picked this up off of eBay 5-6 years ago for under $25.  Thought it might not hurt to toss this one out to ya.

I have both the Arcteryx Atom vest and long sleeve jacket. Absolutely awesome - light, insulated, warm, not bulky and packable. I’m not going to screw around with golf companies trying to make good outwear. Spend a bit more and have a piece you know is going to work that will last you multiple seasons.

It’s probably a bit more expensive than Patagonia but will worth it.

I played today … low cloud cover, misty, high of 43. I had a polo, a quarter zip, and a Callaway jacket plus a stocking cap and was fine. I did walk, if riding I’m sure there would have been times where I got cold.

The Cally jacket has insulated front and back panels with fleece inserts in the side and fleece sleeves. Lots of jackets like this around from different golf oriented brands and outdoor brands.

i think I paid $49 for the jacket from the Callaway website on sale.  For that price I think the value is there, especially since similar products from outdoor brands will ring up over $200.

the nanopuff specifically has no stretch built in but the nanoair does.

I’ve worn my Patagonia rain jacket on course before but not quite what you are talking about. I wear their lightweight fleece pullovers frequently when my standard golf stuff from PM, Nike, UA, etc isn’t quite warm enough

Love these pullovers. The one downside is they’re so warm I don’t find myself wearing them casually to dinner or running errands like my other golf quarter zips. Don’t forget about the lifetime warranty!image.jpeg.f41e02b577c775351aba13efcd4e48d6.jpeg

Out of these three options. Nano Air is the best bet. Not only in warmth and mobility but also its top notch breathability to dump heat while walking. Live in a ski town so have use a variety of Arcteryx and Patagonia for double duties including Atom LT, Nano Air, Better Sweater, Kyanite and some down options. Down si no good for golf unless you go vest which isn't a bad route either. Just make sure to go non hooded version with the nano air if using for golf
