Apex UW shaft recommendations

What shafts are you using in your apex UW’s? I currently play the stock Hzrdus 80X. Ball flight is fine but it lacks some feel, especially once the weather gets cold in the fall. Someone I know has a Tour AD BB 9X I’m considering throwing in. Also considering Ventus blue 8x or 9X.  How much are you supposed to tip a shaft for the UW 7 wood?

I play:

17* - GD Tour AD DI 

21* - GD Tour AD UB

 

Both are great shafts with these heads. UB feels like a tighter version of the DI to me. 

 

Tipping from Callaway is 1.5” seems to be the consensus per other threads on this forum.

I'm on my 3rd one now....different lofts.

 

Had Ventus black 8X & Fuji Pro TS 2.0 8X.  I had both of those tipped 1.5" per the "standard tipping", but I actually felt the head was too heavy and would drop on me.  The Ventus was best when I swapped the weight in the head to a lighter weight. 

 

I now have a 19* w/ GD XC 8TX, tipped 2.25" and it's much better and more stable.  I even have it playing 1" shorter.  The troubling thing is that playing 1" shorter, the swing weight came in at D0.5 w/ a midsize TV 360.....would've thought it would've been quite a bit less.

What weight are you playing in the 21*? I’m wondering if the AD BB 9X I have would come in at too heavy of a swing weight.

AD DI. Feels great but want to try the UB. I think they said to use a fairway shaft instead of a hybrid shaft in these for what it's worth

Correct, fairway wood shaft is what they use.

The ADDI opens up a ton for me when tipped more than what I typically do. It has become one of my favorite shafts.

I've got the Ventus Black 8-X in my 21*. Very good results so far. Plenty of height from the loft from the club but doesn't balloon. Not the combo to hit knockdowns with though. Potentially with the 17* its possible. Distance 230-240. Lots of stopping power. Easy to shape but difficult to miss off the planet.

I bought a used 21* and it has a Ventus Black 9x in it. I don't know how much it is tipped, but it looks like a lot of space between the head and the "Velocore" label so I am thinking it is not tipped a lot. Anyway, it feels really smooth and the loft on the head and the CG pops the ball up in the air no problem. Stock is a high draw with it. Does not feel stout at all, just stable.

I have the 17* with a Ventus Black 7X that is quite easy to hit and very smooth. I don't see much difference between the stock 6.0 Hzrdus Black and the Ventus, though I am not sensitive to shaft "feels"...weight matters more. The 17* is certainly a more reliable 4/5 wood than the corresponding lofted fairway metal wood. The UW reminds me of the best Mac or Cleveland persimmon 4/5 woods with those heavy X200 or precision 7.5 stepped shafts...even at my pedestrian 102-105mph swing.

I have a 21 degree UW on the way from CPO.  I'm planning on tipping 1.5 inches, and I'm planning on reshafting from my nos stash (Epic T90 or Grafalloy Axis 95g).

I am playing the stock HZRDUS 70 on all 3 but the 21 spins too much into the wind. Missed a green 225yds out today short in the bunker. I will swap that shaft with AD UB 8 X and see if I it does not balloon anymore.

Just had this built and I mean, what an azz-🤡 I am for having waited so long to try this thing out!  Crazy easy to elevate but does not balloon.  Can use it like a Texas wedge from just off the green. 8g of hotmelt in the toe makes it virtually anti-left 👏

Sort of.

I have a Ventus Red.  It is tipped fully to play like the purple that was the rage for awhile.

 

Before that I was playing a UST Mamiya Black and before that the stock HZRDOUS.

 

Each has been an upgrade and the red(purple) so much that I am not looking for anything else.

Mine is the 8x in the UW.   I have the 7x in my 3 wood.

Standard .335 wood shaft, which is what the hosel on the UW is.

Looking fat one of these for a replacement.

Should I be going 19 or 21 degree?

I play 15* 3 wood, then 4 DI w/ graphite.

The UW will by about 1" shorter than a stock 7 wood, but should spin quite a bit less.  I go with the 19* which is a good club gap wise between my 15* 3 wood and 22* 4 iron, which looks like it would match what you have.

Looking to recreate this build myself. I find the HZRDUS black gets me a little scoopy trying to elevate the ball. Are you still playing this combo? What do you see and like about it?

Playing AD DI 8X in mine OG UW 19g, works great!

I went with Fuji Pro 2.0 tour spec 7x tipped 1.5" and playing 42" that got me to D3. I did have to shim the shaft though b/c the .335 shaft was super loose and wobbly when i dry-fit it, not sure if other people have seen similar but i thought maybe it was a .370 hosel with how loose it was.

I have tried several. The shaft really matters. I have a UST Blue 8F5 in mine.

I use Kaili Blue 70X in fairway and like the Kaili Blue 80X in the UW. Also use Ventus TR Blue 6X in driver and DG120 S400 in irons
