Srixon ZX MKII Irons

I have zx5/zx7 combo in OG.

I bought mk2 zx4s cause they look great and I thought I  could use some extra help.

same length and shaft

I have found in a few range sessions and 2 rounds that:

1. Zx4s look easier to hit

2. Zx4s are easier to hit

3. Zx4s launch the ball higher (not necessarily a good thing)

4. Zx4s hit the ball generally straighter with less curve. I used to hit so many pure shots with the 7s that would curve away from target and end up just missing the green.

5. Turf interaction with zx7s is better. Zx5s about same.

6. Zx7 feel better but 4s feel better than 5s

7. Zx4s are a few yards longer and spin about the same. Less difference than I thought there would be. I was worried that 43 degree PW into 50 degree gap wedge would be a huge difference but I think it’s manageable.

8. Distance consistency with all of them is amazing.

When I bring my A game I think I’d prefer the 7s. Any other time I’d be much happier looking down at the 4s. I bring my A game so rarely that 4s are a much better option for me. But I’ll keep the OGs for the occasional heat check.

I can tell you that I have a set of ZX7 MkII's waiting for me as soon as I can sell my 2021 T100s set. Same shaft but better height, spin, and landing angle - testing on Trackman both indoors and outdoors on two different days. The V-sole works better for me as well - it just goes through the grass so much nicer...

How is your experience with turf interaction with the zx7 mkii? I always felt like they bounced through the turf rather than cut through it. I tested these over the winter but on mats so never got the chance to try on turf. Sold them before sadly.

I think it depends on your swing. For me, they slide well and keep me from digging too much, but I'm typically steep. I could see it but agreeing well with a shallow swing or mats.

Yeah I always worried about it. I enjoy taking a nice divot and the club getting through the turf. But always felt they wouldn't be like that for me.

I think Srixon really did a GREAT job with offset improvements in the mk2. I could honestly game the 4's and not feel like it's a huge difference from the 7's. But the feel between the 3 models is what will separate the 3!! 7 to 5 to 4 is a huge difference in that buttery feel.

Many have stated the 4 actually feels better than the 5 in the MKII.

Anyone have any updated delivery time frames for a custom set of zx5 mk2? Ordered a few weeks ago and wondering if I can expect them to show up soon.

Mine arrived on April 20 and it was exactly 3 weeks.  That said - the GW is apparently back ordered and I’m still waiting on that club but they shipped 4-PW first.

I have a split set of the 4s and 5s. Just my opinion playing both but the 5s feel much better than the 4s for sure. I do really like the 4s but the 5s are much softer off the face for me.

I bought a ZX4 5-iron as that was where I have a significant drop off in consistency/confidence in my irons. Same shaft, same length.  I wanted to love it SO bad. But I couldn't get any consistency with it. Everything was low and right.  My ZX5 5-iron saw there was competition and suddenly stepped up to the plate. It was as consistent as my other ZX5s at the range and hit absolute money shots in the 2 rounds since.  The ZX4 is in the backup bag of misfit toys.

I thought it was going to be a slam dunk change. The club is gorgeous. It visually fits into the set perfectly. It's slighly bigger, but you'd really have to be paying attention to notice it.  I'll keep it around for another try if (when) the ZX5 5-iron acts up again.

I know there is a lot of love on here for the Zx4 mkii’s and I am one of those people. They are a significant improvement over the previous model and blend seamlessly in the bay in a mixed set. However, they feel like I would expect them to for the type of club it is. They don’t feel close to the Zx5 for me and are miles apart from the 7s as they should be.

I agree.  They feel nice for what they are. But I respectfully have to disagree with some posts I've seen saying they feel better than the ZX5s. As you put so well, there are going to be feel/performance tradeoffs across the line. But that's to be expected.  But they all feel very good for their area of the spectrum.

I guess to each their own. I hit zx5 and zx4 back to back and as much as I wanted the 5’s the 4’s “felt” better to me. The 5’s are very clicky. None of that with the 4’s. Also from top down very hard to tell the difference. Almost impossible actually.

Totally agree that feel is going to be very dependent person to person. All our swings are different and we all likely deliver the club a little different as well. It’s great that Srixon has made a great line this year that allows people to get the most out of their swing.

I personally have not experienced the “clicky” feel you describe with the 5s. But that is not to say you don’t feel it.

Just trying to give the other side for those who may be considering these irons.

Have a set of Mkii ZX7 heads waiting to get assembled on some DG X7's. Just waiting on ferrules which should be here before the end of the week. Looking to cut some spin in the long irons vs my current gamers. Will report back on the ZX7's once I have them built up and tested on my quad. Extremely excited to give them a go. Had the OG ZX7's about 2 years back when my swing was super shallow. V sole wasn't my favorite, but have changed my delivery and am steeper with my AOA. Hit my cousins OG's last week and really liked them.

Built up a ZX Mkii Utility 2 iron yesterday with an Accra TZFive 105 DI shaft. Hit it today during my round twice and carried one 265 and another 270....thing is HOTTTTT.

Have about 10 rounds in now with my ZX7/5 combo. Just swapped out the 5 iron to ZX5 and happy about it. I think one think I like a lot is the seamless transition from 7 to 5 at address. Coming from PXG Gen 5 0311T and i230's.

Love being back to a more true forged iron and I love how much you get out of these irons for them not being overly techy.

So, in regards to the ZX7 PW-6 irons, they feel fantastic. I am seeing a little more distance but that's likely due to lofts (PW bent to 44.5* and 9 iron bent to 40*). The launch starts to be a little lower with the ZX7 (compared to i230) with the 6 iron. This is why I went to ZX5 in 5 and 4 irons.

The ZX5 5 and 4 irons are really great. They feel pretty good, probably on par with i230, and they launch well and still spin very good. I have the lofts at 25* and 22.5*. I do appreciate the look of them down at the ball compared to the i230. Seemingly less offset and maybe slightly shorter heel to toe. Not sure if they are actually shorter heel to toe, but it appears that way to me.

This is my first time with V-Sole and I really like it, especially in the shorter irons!

To me, the Srixons feel so much better than i230.. i230 feels like rock  in comparison. Idk if it's because of the shaft. Im a lefty, and the fitter didn't have my gamer shaft available at the demoday (Im in Modus 120). I tried DG 120 and PX IO, and good contact felt and sounded like hitting a rock in comparison to the Srixon ZX7. That's just me, but the sensation of a flushed ZX7 is incredibly soft.
