Srixon ZX MKII Irons

Started the season with the i230, I was hyped on them and while they are great, they haven't seen the bag since I got my ZX7 MKii.  I think the 230 feel nice, but I am liking the lower trajectory and spin of the ZX7.

I'm still playing a 545/745 combo set.  Realistically, I feel like I have nothing to gain from upgrading to ZX7, other than cosmetics, but I have had my eyes on the ZX4 MKII long irons.

Do any of you think it is worth it to buy the 4/5/6 zx4 mk ii, bent weak, to play with my z745? I'm looking for more consistent ball speed on off center strikes. My ball speed at a gapping session this past weekend was consistently 122-125mph with 7 iron, and my z545 6 iron was averaging 125-132mph, which was causing some pretty big front/back dispersion numbers. The z545 4/5 irons similar.

Or, will the idea of forgiveness be negligible and I should just stick with what I've got.

Thanks all!

How are the mishits on the zx7’s for you? Currently playing i230’s. Considering switching to something else don’t like the feel much, these are at the top of the list

Anyone have any updated delivery time frames for a custom set of zx5 mk2? Ordered a few weeks ago and wondering if I can expect them to show up soon.

I ordered a set with custom paint and they're out for delivery today with it being about 6 weeks (unfortunately)

So much to unpack in this thread, I feel like it confused me more. Trying to decide do I combo, or not combo. I tried out the ZX4/ZX5 in a 7 iron. Was carrying the ZX4 180-185 consistently, 190 if I found the center. The ZX5 I was carrying 160-165, consistently. This is all on GCQuad, not outdoor. I am a somewhat of a digger, so I wouldn't want to strengthen any lofts. These are the options in my brain that are consuming my thoughts;

  1. 4-5 ZX4 weakened 1° & 6-PW ZX5 as is
  2. 4-6 ZX4 weakened 1° & 7-PW ZX5 as is
  3. 4-7 ZX4 weakened 1° & 8-PW ZX5 as is
  4. 4-PW ZX4 weakened 1°, is it even necessary to upgrade from my current irons?

I know I am getting overly analytical with everything, but this is a big purchase for me and I've grown out of my current irons. Would appreciate some input.

I don’t have access to launch monitors regularly, so can’t answer your ball speed question directly. What I can say is that I’ve had zx4 mkii since February and fairly bad strikes with the long irons often end up pin high or just a bit short, even though get there differently than good strike. I don’t know if that means ball speed is retained for sure (though) I suspect it does. But, I know that the long irons are incredibly forgiving in terms of distance retention result. I have hit plenty of ugly 6 irons that run up onto the green for a birdie putt. That said, this is only my anecdotal/observational experience, sorry I don’t have numbers/data to provide.

I agree with @ECgolf that the ZX4 mkII irons (6&7 for me) do extremely well on mishits.  They seem very consistent on distances.

Mis hit are very good honestly.  I do not think they are much less forgiving than the i230 if at all... I had a bad day with the ZX7 today and they were still very good, my swing was total trash.  I'm playing again Monday and may try the i230 again just to confirm the Srixons staying in the bag so we will see, but I'd say for me, due to the V sole the Srixons are more forgiving overall.

is the A wedge for the ZX7 a bladed club like the previous generation or is it the same cavity back as the rest of the irons?

I am going back and forth T100S and ZX7 and love them both.

It’s the bladed style like the previous generation. I also picked up a set of the zx7 Mkii this year, but the t100 are in the bag.

They’re great irons, I just get more height with the T100 irons and find it much easier to flight it lower with a higher flying iron than the other way around.

Brand new set of zx7 coming to a classifieds section near you. Lol.

Does anyone know why the A wedge is a blade style? Just curious. Got my blended set and was surprised to see the A wedge looking totally different. Doesn't matter because it's an amazing club and learning how versatile it can be with each round. TIA!

As a ZX7 4-5, Z Forged 6-PW user, if I could do it again, I’d go ZX5 in the 4-5 1 weak. I don’t see a discernible difference in the ZX7 and Z forged so there’s really no forgiveness improvement in my opinion that would justify a combo set there. Loving the Z forged so much though!!!

agree with this.  I found the zx7 4-5 iron harder to hit consistently than just about any other players cb…including the t100 and tcb.  Not sure why since it’s considerably larger.

I did the ZX5s in the 4-5 irons then ZX7s on down. Honestly I’m blown away by how nice the 5s are. I bent them 2* weak because they were going to far, but they are easy to hit, go way up in the air, and still retain spin. Extremely impressed by these for long irons.

I find the 4-5 in ZX7 to be consistently easier to hit and a ton more forgiving compared to most other OEMs. Funny how it is different for everyone.

Just got a set of ZX7 4-7, 8-P Z forged.  I LOVE the Z forged so much I am thinking of going ALL blades....  The ZX5 are just slightly too chunky for me...  Still very good though.

Loving the these things.  Coming from T100 and Pro 223.  They look better to my eye from the top than the prior generation.  Finding them easy to hit.  Great on misses.  I strike them more consistently than T100 and have less left misses than Pro 223.  I think they nailed the size and offset on these.   No issues with height or spin for me...using V1x.

Will probably order up some of the z forged at some point to blend in and give a try.

Just ordered som ZX7's 5-PW. I convinced myself the shafts in my current set are too heavy and too stiff so therefore....new irons 😂. Surprisingly, I like the ZX5's in the address position the best of all the sets. For my eye, the slightly bigger size works better with the thickness of the topline. I want to play the Forged, but the ZX7 seemed like a perfect middle ground. Honestly, I'd like to have a set of all 3. The 4's look fantastic as well. I got mine 1 degree weak in the 5-8 irons and standard loft in 9 and PW.

Just curious how everyone has their irons adjusted? I have zx5 4-7 (5,6,7 all bent a degree weak) the 4 iron is standard loft. They’re combo’d with zx7 (8,9,P all standard loft). I seem to have a pretty big gap between my 8 and 7 iron. I’ve heard some say they have all the zx5’s bent two degrees weak. Wondering what’s worked for everyone else to get consistent gaps?
