Srixon ZX MKII Irons

Ugh, so many choices now days. Went to a Srixon demo day at my local track recently and really grooved with the ZX5’s. Even hit the 5i really well, which I didn’t think I could do.

I have a time slot scheduled for Callaway demo day on Wednesday AND I’ve got a 50% bonus trade in that I could use for a set of Paradym’s. (Obviously pending on how they feel after hitting them.)

Currently playing Apex DCB 6-AW, which I like, but they are starting to feel a little chunky as my ga:e improves. I really like the Apex line, but it looks like it’s still going to be awhile before we know what the next iteration is going to look like (if that’s what they release).

1st world problems as they say….

I am still eagerly waiting for my ZX5 MK2 5-6 and ZX7 MK2 7-PW with C-taper lite. Went for a CC fitting before my purchase and it was either the Modus 120 or C-taper lite both in stiff. Felt that the C-taper lite has more feel and responsiveness. Bought them with + 1/2 inch longer. I know Srixon doesnt do swingweight but i did request for it and they sent an email saying that they will try to get the swingweight to get as close to D5 as possible.

Also bought the 7 wood as well for the fun of it.

I ordered a set of ZX7 MKii with C-Taper light 110s. I’m coming from x100s so it’s a bit of a weight adjustment (I’ve discussed in this thread previously).

Small sample size so far but I’m a bit concerned C-Taper Lites are not very popular, and nonexistent on tour.

i am due to receive my set today! Doesn't matter to me that its unpopular or nonexistent on tour tbh. i tried it at CC compared to 120 and prefer the feel of it. it definitely looks different from other shafts as well

A mid weight shaft that promotes a mid to high launch probably won't ever be a very attractive option to tour pros that bring their own speed to launch the ball.

I just got my ZX7s saturday, c-taper lite 110s  4-PW and standard specs minus an extra wrap. Have only been able to play ~7 holes so far, with my first full round being tomorrow morning. Previous set are older titleist blades with s200s, having played s300s and KBS Tour 120s in the past. I was also a bit worried about playing a lighter shaft, but so far from my limited play the c taper lites have held up very well, no feeling of losing the shaft on the downswing and the few shots I've hit that have been too far left are my own fault from stalling out the lower body and getting handsy.

Swingweight feels good, maybe a tiny bit lighter than my old clubs but nothing some lead tape can't fix if it bothers me down the line. Compared to my old set with s200s I'm getting a higher ball flight with the c tapers, nice high towering draw but I can also knock them down with ease. Only thing I'm worried about is lower spin but I will have to see tomorrow, will switch to a regular ball from an X if I'm having trouble holding greens.

Upon receiving my clubs, my ZX5 MK2 5 and 6 irons are in KBS Tour Lite Stiff but they are supposed to be KBS C-Taper Lite Stiff sigh...

This happened to me with the previous iteration of ZX7, they sent C Taper lite instead of normal C Taper in my 7 iron. They told me to keep it and had the replacement out in a few days if I remember correctly.

I like the look of the shaft for sure.

I expect the bettinarti adapter added a bit more head weight to the club during the fitting. Like others have said, lead tape should be able to fix it if I’m thinning regularly.

Had a chance to hit the ZX5 MKII and ZX4 MKII tonight at my club.  Had the pro put the standard modus 105 shaft in the 5 and the Ctaper tour lite in the ZX4.  Have to say, I was surprised by the 4.  Top line is thicker than the 5 but other than that all dimensions are almost identical.

The 4 actually felt better than the 5.  The 5 feels clicky.  Didn’t get any of that from the 4, more solid feel.  4 did fly a little further being these were 7 irons and the ZX4 is 2.5 degrees stronger.  High and straight.

I hit many shots and switched back and forth.  Every time, I thought the 4 felt better.

The top line is identical between the 4, 5, 7 and Utility.

I ended up buying zx4 mkii. I like the look of back of zx4 better than zx5 with the badge to make it look like a zx7. Performance was similar with a bit more distance zx4. I saw no reason to go with zx5 when zx4 was so good. Very happy with them so far.

You’re on tour?

If you aren’t, why would you be remotely concerned if your game and shaft choice in this case isn’t reflective of their needs?

I said I don’t see the shaft discussed often (here on the forums, this thread specifically). Furthermore, they are not common on tour.

I am having a difficult adjustment period from the (ever popular, including many pro tours) x100’s despite being fit into the C Taper Lites. I also read about bending issues with the C Tapers.

More common use by pro’s either means the equipment performs well or the company spends a lot of money on sponsorships. Validation.

Sorry for being confused about this statement then, “I’m a bit concerned C-Taper Lites are not very popular, and nonexistent on tour.”

I see your point. My mistake, I need to find the C taper lite shaft thread.

Do not worry yourself about the C Taper Lite. If you were fit for it and liked it, you will like it even more playing it. It is an excellent shaft, has been offered as a stock shaft on many excellent irons by OEMs over the years. I remember Mizuno sold a lot of them as the stock shaft when the JPX 900 series came out. It is simply a friendlier version of the C Taper, aimed at those who like the performance of C Taper but find it too low-launching or boardy. KBS shafts are all over the pro tours, it’s not like one model is lower quality than the others, it’s more that the pros tend to go for C Tapers, Tours and Tour V’s a little more. All of those are more stout than CTL though the CTL X flex gets close to those.

I’ve played many KBS shafts for years and have pulled many heads, have yet to encounter a bent tip. No doubt it does happen, and not only to KBS. Their shafts have a linear bend profile and the design does not reinforce the tips, which is one of the reasons they feel so good, so if you’re a steep swinger/ground slammer, they may not be for you. Those anecdotes about bent tips produce a lot of noise but do not happen to everyone and are about the player, not the product. If you’re slamming into mats a lot or digging holes you could bury a dead sparrow in, go for a reinforced tip. If you’re hitting golf shots, you’ll be fine. There are infinitely more players who love the feel of KBS and have no problems with them.

Just out of curiosity, what are some of the more well known shafts with reinforced tips? I ask because I recently discovered the enjoyment of C Tapers and I had been a little worried about the broken tip thing considering I can get diggy.

is it normal that it takes a certain amount of time to get used to new fitted clubs?

i initially used a stock ping g425 standard loft lie length and standard swingweight of D0 with 105 stiff and got fitted at CC with zx5/7 with c taper lite, 1/2 inch longer, swingweight of D5 and 1/2 degree flatter.

i hit it well while fitting few weeks back but went to range earlier today with shots all fading, and distance between 100-140 yards from PW -6 iron

Yes always some adjustment period but as pointed out on other the forum call CC. They have a fitting guarantee, let them know your issues.  Shouldn’t be that unhappy after spending that much money.

They will refit you.
