Srixon ZX MKII Irons

I was browsing in the golf shop last night while their tech was bending one of my O.G. ZX5 heads. 

 

I'm really surprised how trimmed down the new ZX4's look. I was mostly comparing 7 irons...maybe the 9/P would look fatter to me, I dunno. But the overall profile of the mid/long irons was surprisingly svelte for that category of irons.

Ordered a set of the following:

Zx5 mkII 5-7(std lofts)

ZX7 MKii 8 (1* strong)

ZX7 MKii 9-pw (2* strong)

 

Ordered early last week and got the 8,9,PW already. No idea about the zx5 heads. Online doesn't show them as an option anymore in the combo builder.

I'm waiting on a zx5 order. was told yesterday by srixon, the zx5 heads are scheduled to be in Monday, the 28th.

Does anyone have a review to offer on a ZX4/ZX5 combo? I don't have a good place to hit the heads near me so may order blind but looking for feedback first.

I have a full set of the zx4 mkiis and love them. I don’t think I could have bought the mki version because they were so bulky. Night and day difference. Srixon did a fantastic job upgrading the look of them. Perhaps the transformation of the year. Would be curious to know if any other club went through such a dramatic makeover from one year to the next.

How is the VT sole? I am tempted to buy some Srixon irons but I don't have the opportunity to hit them on grass.

I think it can depend on your delivery. I am pretty shallow and v sole is no bueno for me

Mine came in today. That said the combo builder site doesn't show the Zx5mkII heads in for 8,9,PW yet. I was waiting on 5,6,7.

What is going on with the combo set builder on Srixon's website? You can't choose some of the ZX5 irons to build a blended set.

VT sole is great unless you are shallow and flippy. Only other soles I also like have a pre-worn leading edge, but currently playing OG ZX7 and love the VT sole on them.

anyone came from a more compact iron set to these? Do the shirt irons bother you with how big they look?

I played apex tcbs and 2019 t100s, both are significantly more compact that zx7.  

I could never get along with the srixons.  It’s like the toe would dig no matter how upright they were bent.  When I did hit one well they felt great, had a piercing trajectory, and were about a full club to club and a half longer than any non hollow body club.

 

I’m shallow into the ball and can flip at times.

Hmmm, don’t need them to go super far, like the spin and distance I have now, was hoping for a touch more help in the long irons… might have to look elsewhere

You should try them.  If they fit your swing I would imagine they are very forgiving for their size.   A guy I play with often has them and he flushes them.

I just got back from a fitting. I ended up buying 6-PW - Zx5 and 4,5 iron in Zx4. Dynamic Gold S400 shaft. I am coming from MX300. 

 

I hit TM 770, 790, Titleist T200, Ping 525, Mizuno forged, and cobra forged tec. The Zx5 and Zx7 both felt alot better by a mile. 

 

My biggest struggle was getting more height but my best strikes with a 7 iron were 80-90 ft in the air. My fitter doesn't like that all these club makers are de-lofting their irons in the name of more distance. 

 

Funny enough though - I was hitting the Zx5 higher than the Zx7 despite the Zx7 having more loft. He said it had to do with the weighting. 

 

Anyway, I am excited to get them in and play.

It’s also possible that it came from Srixon that way. Under the custom options, they allow you to pick colors for three groupings of text. I did that a few months ago and they looked sharp with all metallic gold. I think it’s something like $15 adder per club.

These came from Srixon Japan the item was labeled "Limited Blue" def looks like a professional finish like a satin nickel not talking about the lettering I would easily pay extra for a finish like this

my driver swing speed is around 95 and hit it about 260 with roll. I typically carry my 7 iron 155-160 and it rolls out to 165-170. I need to work on adding a little dynamic loft and hitting the ball higher.

Tried both the ZX5 and ZX7 yesterday. Current irons Wilson Staff Cb. Other than the Srixons being slightly longer (loft related), the Wilsons felt miles better with superior launch and spin. Modus 120 Tour in all three.

IMHO the Z785 was way better feeling than these.

The Staff CB's are sweet.  Regret trading mine in.  I'm currently playing a ZX7/ZX5 combo set.  Have a set of Wilson Staff  blades sitting here in my office that I'm debating on putting back in the bag for my Labor Day round.  I know I have no business playing them, but when struck well they feel and sound amazing.  Honestly my misses with them aren't terrible.  Actually shot my lowest 9 hole score of a 36 with them.  Who am I kidding, they're going in the bag for tomorrow.

100% agree!  I like the look of the MKiis but the feel to me is so disappointing Vs the 785.  So much so that I sold the mkii’s and found a new set of 785s on the bay and bought them for when my current set wears out.

I've actually been afraid to say this out loud lol. i wasn't sure if it was just me, but im sure am glad that im not the only one that thinks the z785 feels so much better than the zx7 and the mkii. Maybe I'm bias cause I bag the 785, but now I know I'm not alone lol.

The MKiis almost feel hollow to me, I know they are not though.  Best way I can describe it, the 785s feel solid and the MKiis just don’t.
