Took at swing at just testing the space quickly during lunch today. Didn’t mess with the projector yet 

Luckily, I used an old iron, smoked the center rail for my garage door opener on the first swing. Need to play with location, but clearly can’t have it centered in the car bay

Currently have the projector in a makeshift "perch", maybe about 7-8 feet up. As I still want to play around with exact placement. However, I think floor mounted is a no go. Image is just too distorted that way, even with the Keystone adjustment. At least thats the case for the Haprun projector. Maybe it'll be better with the Groview. But I'd expect it won't be significantly better in that regard.

Got the Groview Projector today. Feel alone is more quality (not that the Happrun was cheap necessarily). Picture is much better. Not only significantly brighter, but clearer as well. Definitely looks to have more contrast and definition. Focal and keystone adjustments are also much more precise. Sound is also quite a bit better. 

Funny thing is, I wouldn't be surprised if they came out of the same factory. The menu UI is identical between the two, lol.

 

Is it the best projector out there? Heck no. But is it a pretty crazy deal for $79? Heck yeah. Little guy is eager to test it out tonight and help me decide which is better, lol. But I already know it's gonna be the Groview.

I did not have time to mess with the projector yet, that's phase 2.

 

I ended up buying a Rukket baseball net. The frame size matches GoSports screen, will be better for my son for learn baseball on, and it was cheaper. The holes are too wide for golfballs, so I need to put the screen overtop of the Rukket net no matter what.

 

It actually works unreal. The Baseball net has a ball catching pouch. It's exactly where you want to strike a golf ball. The screen falls into the pouch a bit and the balls don't go flying everywhere.

 

I will probably then dial in the position of the mat / net this weekend and then move on to the projector

anyone know how to make the Garmin app full screen on an iPad? 

 

now i need to Decide if I’m all in or not? My mat is terrible and not sure if my vision of double using the baseball net for golf works or not

Looking good. And yeah, I was a little suspect of the baseball net working. If you're wanting something different, I HIGHLY recommend the impact panel ParBuster sells. Super high quality. 

As for a mat, if you have just a little bit of DIY skill, you can make your own divot action mat that'll rival anything out there. I made one about a year ago. Still going strong and hands down the best impact strip I've ever used. If you're interested, I can post a thread with details.

The GoSports impact screen is actually perfect so far, no issue there. Just need to decide how committed I am to this, how much I want to spend, etc etc

No worries. I follow what you're getting at. Essentially, it's outputting in a wide screen format, but your screen is the opposite shape. There is a 4:3 setting for the projector (it's the button on the remote directly below the power button). So that'd be worth a try.

And the source output would be the iPad and application. Different apps will display differently. So you may be limited in how much of your particular screen you'll be able to fill. For instance, if I play a YT video on full screen on my iPad, streaming to the projector. It fills up maybe 75% of the screen. But if I instead stream Amazon video or my simulator, it's fills the entire screen. In fact, I actually need to reduce the zoom of the projector a bit.

You'll get it dialed in. Might not be able to perfectly fill the entire screen. But can likely do better than what you've got currently.

I tried E6 last night against the wall. That lets you dial in the settings in the app. That looks appropriate for my needs.

Glad you got it sorted out. What are you using to run E6? I was actually trying to mess around with the settings as well (using an iPad), and couldn't find anything to change the screen dimensions. 

On an odd related note, I actually had amazon send me a replacement Groview. While the first one was great, it looked like it may have been very lightly used. Small scuff on the lip of the front panel, the protective sticker over the button was partially peeled off, and it sounded like there was a small rattle inside it (which turns out to be normal). 

New one arrived today, so I tested them out side by side. Not sure the first one was actually used, but I'm keeping the second one for a couple reasons.

 

One, the image is larger!?!?!? Can't figure out why. Placed them in the exact same location. All settings were identical. Watching the same exact video on youtube, on the same exact iPad, with the same exact cables and everything. But somehow, the second one's image is about 12" larger (diagonal measurement). 

 

Two, the picture is clearer. Now, the first one was great. But had some distortion around the edges (really only noticeable when text was displayed). And in spite of adjusting the keystone, I just couldn't get the sharpness uniform at the top and bottom. With this second one, the "issue" is entirely resolved. Perfectly uniform resolution and sharpness across the entire screen.

The only negative about the new one is that the fan is almost a little higher pitched. But it's really only noticed if no audio is playing. So I'll live with it for the tradeoffs of a larger display area and better picture.

Still can't explain any of the above. But guess it's not surprising. As these likely aren't manufactured with extreme precision. So there'll be tolerance differences. I did have my wife confirm that I wasn't going crazy. Particularly in respect to screen size. But she was in agreement with both the size, resolution/sharpness, and fan noise.

I'd still have been very happy with the first one. But I'm glad I had amazon send me a replacement to compare.

I’m 0% an AV/audiophile or super knowledgeable, but it’s an area I don’t skimp on? 

for reference, have the 2021 version of the 75” Samsung Q80R TV. So not the Costco / Black Friday special, but above average for what I think most people buy these days.

been setting up movie night for the wife and kids in our bed the last couple days to share the projector.
 

I’m honestly blown away how good the projector is $70. I feel like I had a small apartment or lived on a wicked budget, I’d never buy a TV again? Smart speaker and a cheap projector and life is good. 
 

for e6 I’m using an iPad Pro. I think it’s the 2020 version? I haven’t used it for golf yet. Just screen testing.

Absolutely agree with how impressive the Groview projector is for the price. Funny thing is, I've gathered that many of these amazon projectors are likely coming out of the same exact factory (or at least the same corporation is making them). The Haprun's box, manual, remote, user interface and everything were pretty much identical. And the mfg listed on the box was the same. But there was still a significant difference between the two. 

 

Makes sense I guess. Obviously offering different tiers. But also a good way to grab a nice share of the market by making folks think they have choices. Which they do. But it's less about brand to brand. And more about price points representing the different classes of projectors (not surprising). 

 

Got my billboard vinyl sheet set up in front of my impact screen. Super happy with it. Seems like it'll be pretty rugged, and the image quality is great due to the thickness of it. Plus the back side is black. So it's really good at blocking out any ambient light. Already ordered a much larger sheet of the same material (25' x 15') for outdoor movies. The Groview claims it'll do up to a 300" screen, so gonna try to max it out. Kids are super excited to try it out once the weather gets better at night.

Also got my projector mounted on the wall. And am looking into an auxiliary audio source. Not that the projector's is bad, but the sound could be much better. Didn't have any plans to go down this projector road. But am glad I did.

For $70 it’s the cheapest part of the process! It’s crazy how the mat costs more, haha 

I set it up again because I was itching to swing today. Dying for the Spornia to come in so I can actually try it properly.

Shipping was reasonable and fast. Obviously can't speak to how well it'll hold up over time. But it's pretty hefty stuff. I ordered the mid-weight 13oz version with a black back. Went with the White/Black thinking it'd help block ambient light from the windows directly behind my screen/net. Which it does very well. But in hindsight might have been better to go white/white so that if one side became scuffed up over time, I could just flip it.

Still, I paid just a little over $50 for a 10'x14' sheet. So pretty reasonable even if I had to replace it every couple years or so.

Figured I'd add some pics of the billboard vinyl screen. Currently cut to around 11' x 8'. May trim a little off the bottom. As my projector size is maxed out in the room. And this would mean that many of my shots would hit the impact panel behind it. Greatly increasing the longevity of the screen.

Hows the durability, I was looking at the 20oz 10x10 so I could just rotate or flip. Prices are definitely good 👍

That's the only thing I can't really speak to yet. So far so good, but have only had it around a week. the 20oz would really be hefty. It's got almost a fine woven layer in the middle/core. So it's already seems pretty tough. For the price, it's worth giving it a shot. I'm also fortunate in that a I have a nice impact panel behind it. And can actually trim close to 2 feet off the bottom of the vinyl screen (as the projector is already maxed out). Doing that, most shots would hit the impact panel behind the screen. Which would significantly increase the life.

only downside? I can’t figure out how to fold it back into its case… but I think I can just leave it “unfolded” behind a garage rack between uses anyway. Basically leave it in a flat square Vs folding it into a 2 x 2 circle

They have videos on how to do it; it took me a couple tries to get it, but once you have it down, it'll be super easy.

 

It actually takes me longer to set it up than it does to pack it up 😁

Yes, indoors. 

 

For now, still using the https://rawhidegolfball.com/collections/golf-mats-for-sale mat I got a couple years ago. It's still going strong, and I just place it in the corner when not in use.

Maybe it was you earlier? Someone else recommended them. Found them on FB Marketplace while looking at used Mats

@SE Gamer damn amazon ad on the Home Screen got me, this is a short throw. Curious how this works and if it gives me more flexibility with location or enables me to mount it on the ceiling?
 

Will def give up on projectors after this, but curious if this ads value as a golf ones are usually short throw… expecting picture to be worse

Finally tried E6 today… the full screen visual is a game changer 

 

Tried driver and it’s safe to swing. Always feel awkward with the setup visuals of swinging driver off the mat, but I can swing freely!

Tried the $70 short throw projector today. Definitely helped get Garmin to cover the whole screen, but the dimness was a killer. I could barely see the E6 screen. If a short throw comes on the market that matches the Groview, life would be perfect!
