Snapped! Is that the adapter???

Well this is a first for me. Leaned over to grab my tee and SNAP! Brand new Srixon ZX5 with a Riptide.

 

I’ve been getting my tee this way since forever. It’s not a lot of pressure.

 

Anyone ever have this happen. Is that just the adapter that’s broken?!?

Nope, that shaft is a goner.  It must have been pretty severely damaged prior to your leaning on it.

definitely just the shaft snapped not the adapter.

I’ve had the thing for one and half rounds. I did hit one low and heely on 10 today and it broke AFTER my tee shot on 11. But at my modest swing speed (95 ish) I wouldn’t think one shot would do that??
 

I guess I should say, it is a certified preowned from Global Golf so I guess I don’t know the history (but it didn’t  look like it had ever been hit - it had plastic wrap on it). Warranty should cover it but just seemed odd to me that it’d be that fragile. 
 

I did make some nice pars with my 5 wood off the tee on the way in!

unless there is a specific warranty that is covered through pre-owned that’s not likely covered.

pretty sure with GG Certified preowned it’s good. But whatever, it’s just a shaft/adapter. Not that big a deal.

That’s an odd break for a new club. Did it shear completely off like that? Or did you remove it the rest of the way? Looks like the type of break you would get from high SS and high torque mishits, but that’s obviously unlikely here.
 

I’m guessing, but willing to bet that shaft was damaged when it was traded. Slapped in a new head so no one would think twice about it. It’s a pretty clean break, so I doesn’t look the fibrous damage you would see with excess heat or numerous pulls. Doesn’t make a lot of sense to be completely honest, which is why I’m leaning towards a shady trade in.

Agreed with @MFBach, being a used club we obviously have no idea what the history is and low heel strikes in abundance put a lot of strain in the shaft and are probably the most common cause of this issue outside of/combined with overprepping of the shaft on install which can weaken it right at the opening of the hosel/adaptor.

to answer the original question the shaft broke where the ferrule meets the adapter. (obviously) the ferrule has a shoulder/ collar to typically prevent that from happening.

if you had the toe of the club on the turf instead of say the sole. That can happen due to the stress. 

However, from the looks of the break it can easily be assumed the shaft failed.

Just for the record, it's not hard to re-shrink-wrap a head. Buyer beware!! Shaft could have been changed out of another head that had been hit a lot in a sim too. Pre-owned has a lot of gray areas.
