How frequent do you play golf?

Generally, it's as much as possible subject only by weather and my physical limitations. In the good-weather portions of the year that's sustainable at about 4-5 times a week for me although occasionally I might play as many as six days in a row. Usually by the fifth round in a week my body is getting a little creaky.

But I do not play if the temps or wind chills are much below 45-50 degrees. And I never play when it's raining. So that means there are periods I might not play at all for a week or two and during the winter I'm lucky to get a couple rounds a week in.

I have groups with whom I play in standing games a couple times a week, another guy I play (but don't bet) with once a week and I like to have at least one or two solo rounds a week. I find if I play with other people half a dozen rounds in a row the social stuff wears thin. But if I play by myself several rounds in a row my own company gets a little tedious. I'm hard to satisfy that way 😬 so I try to mix it up a little to keep things fresh.

You do basically the same as I do with weather and physical limitations. The only day I do not play is on Sunday because I run the sound board at my Church. Now if it is wet like it has been here lately I can not play if it is CPO due to my physical limitations. I will hit balls on the range if it is open and putt some. It is darn sure nice being retired

With the replies coming in the title should have been, "how infrequently do you play golf?"

I get out ~6 times per month.  I play more when the boys are home from college.

We are about the same.  So far I have 56 posted rounds, and probably have 4 scramble days out there.  We play year round so will probably get in 7 or 8 rounds in December.  Son was home from college this week, and we got in 4 rounds which was great.

Before this year it was normally 2-3 times a month, This year it's more like once a month.

For those showing a decline.  Please review and consider the following:

X axis = # years of marriage

Y axis = # of rounds played per year

A - commonly called the "first year of marriage dip" shows a sharp reduction in rounds played

B - many guys get to stage B after 4 years of marriage and life is good (compromise is made) life continues

C-  the other guys with signs of possible marital trouble reach year 4 and things take a different path, a sharp decline

C-D - the critical years, either a bounce back, "marriage recovery" or D = Divorce

E - Back to the single life, possible rekindling of a marriage or "special arrangements" are made

image.png.aad701c8f94f934847ed9af164a4d69f.png

I was able to get to B fairly quickly after the kids passed toddlerhood. Currently in a play once a week/practice once a week mode. Usually get in 45-55 rounds a year. Hoping to work my way to E sometime soon.

There was a time where I would have thought I could play 5+ times a week.  That is a distant memory now.  Even if I was to retire, I don't think my body could handle 4 or more rounds a week and sustain it.  I think 3 rounds a week would be ideal if it were to continue on an extended basis.  Now there might be some range time now and then, but not much if I am playing that often.

Last season I got in 37 rounds in about a 24 week period.  The season here was truncated by floods in the spring.  Now there were some weeks where there was no play due to bad weather conditions, so I averaged about 2 rnds a week.  And rarely played the same course 2x in a row (13 different courses).

The last time I played 6 days in a row was quite a while ago and by the 5th round, my back was stiff and sore.  I don't know how some play every day for weeks on end.  Maybe if I retire I will be like some and just go play to kill most of the day (and not be with the wife all the time).

Guys in stage E possess what I like to call the "Bill Brasky" effect.

Stage E is a very special place.  I hope you get here.

And when you do - don't forget us little people.

Just 24 hours as that guy would satisfy me for at least 5 years.

Let's see: cigars, alcohol and young girls.  24 hrs might just kill you.

From November to March, one or two times per week, weather permitting.  From April to October, more like three or four times per week, sometimes more, with a lot of those being solo weekday afternoon nines before dark.

That’s my graph too. Covid killled it.   Averaging 2.5 rounds a month.  Sometimes I get 4. But if it rains on Saturday I get less. Turrible.

Three rounds a week rain or shine unless it's really raining (PNW rain is often an on and off drizzle), snow or frozen, or I'm recovering from something.

The older I get the more my body parts wear out and need therapy or replacing.  I really dislike the recovering phase, it involves sitting on the couch watching tv and posting to wrx all day.  Posting to wrx all day just makes the golf withdrawals worse.

Retirement has been good so far.  If I didn't have golf I'd have to buy a fishing boat.

Mostly Wishon with a few Tour Edge Exotics, Cobra, Cleveland, and one Odyssey mixed in.

I just looked at my GHIN and see I've got 257 YTD. I play 7 days a week and am fortunate to be retired, live at a private club, and have no other hobbies that take up my time. this year is down due to us traveling about 8 weeks this year. my normal is 300+

Yeah, you guys that have kids, jobs, wives that don't play it can get kinda rough to get out and play!
