Someone had them refinished.....  Not from Srixon

Lots of options out there now for refinishes like this. Wans Customs, Mulligan's Club Makers, Golf Garage and others.

 

As amazing as they look new, you can never get away from the durability issue with black irons. It doesn't bother some but scratch marks in the black finish would personally drive me crazy.

My Z-965's are at Flanigan Bilt getting a black nitride finish. I'll post some pics in 12 weeks when I get them back.

I know people question the durability of black finishes and it seems like some are more durable than others.

 

Using Caswell’s Gun Metal Blue on raw irons turns them close to black. Downside is that it isn’t durable at all but upside is that all you have to do is wipe them with some solution again and they are back to black.

I don't have experience with DLC finishes, but I think they tend to scratch and chip over time, and don't look very good when they do.

My wedges are black nitride, and the finish holds up very well. The soles will wear, especially in sandy conditions, but the finish doesn't chip off, so the back of the heads will still look good for years if well taken care of.

Looks nice but since the finish was done as an aftermarket thing I don't think the finish won't last long since it is just a coating.  DLC finishes are I know last the longest since the color is baked in at the foundry so it is almost impossible for it to wear off.

I think i need to go change my pants...Would love a raw option from srixon though. I'd buy some raw ZX7s in a heartbeat and they'd age a lot better than black

 

Though I'm sure i'd get hosed as a lefty even if they did come out with that

Yep if one wants to test the durability just play them a few rounds where I live in a salt and sand environment

Dicropan from Brownell's makes for a deep, dark finish on steel.  Easy to apply and easy to touch up.  It's durable for it's intended purpose.  I should try some on an old club and see how it stands up to use.

It is winter here. I usually start playing again on Easter, so should be good. Website said 8-12 weeks, hopefully it's sooner.
