Some things just fit: J15CB Are you still looking for home?

I know a lot of us here have played a few years. Many of us change clubs like my wife changes purses. Some of us change but then migrate back to a favorite from time to time before being seduced by the promise of more.

My return is more often than not to the Bridgestone J15CB, my iron “home” if you will.

Curious if you have a home and where it is? Or, are you not even interested in anything but what is coming out new?

For me, there are at least a few things in life where I feel I have found home:

Zamberlan boots

My 14 year old Tag watch

My 9 year old German Shepherd

And my Bridgestone J15CBs

You??

Been playing the J15 CB again after a long time away and I am yet again, amazed at how good they are.  I mean it for real this time, I will not be selling them....  They have bumped my ZX7 out of the way.

Going to find out what it's like to NOT play J15 CB's next golf season.  After 5 years, I retired them for 2019 T100's for 2023.  Hopefully I won't regret it.

Same here my friend and you can add the ZX5 to my list.

All great clubs BUT…the J15 CB needs to stay in my bag!

The T100’s are solid for a wide range of players. I think you can play them with a lot of speed or with moderate speed. Great choice but think you will miss the J15 feel.

Obviously the Ts will perform though!

Just bought a Rogue ST Pro set. Kicked out a set of Snake Eye 600B that have been in the bag for around 15 years.

I'm very much a "found a home" type of guy in terms of the majority of equipment, toys, tools, etc. I do my research, make the purchase, and keep whatever it is until it breaks or there's a legitimate reason to upgrade.

As far as golf equipment goes, I see zero advantage to "upgrading" every few years. Let alone every year. Frankly, that practice is likely more of a detriment to your average player.

Was not a j15 player, but the tour b x cb were my favorites.  Will own them again at some point.  My current home is trending towards honma tr20v.  My second time returning to them and not quite sure why I left.

Great thing is that home is not the same club to each of us, but each one mentioned is no surprise to me. The manufacturers just get some really right. In those cases, the really good ones are never a bad choice…never!

Have you found the Rogue ST pro delivers on consistent distance? I researched that iron quite a lot (and hit it at a demo day) and if there was one thing that raised its head about this club every so often in online reviews, it was the potential for varying distances. Have you found that?

Same as you. I can’t find a replacement to the j15cb. I don’t know what I’ll do when they eventually need to be replaced.

I often hear guys say they don't know what they will replace the J15CB with but surely the Bridgestone 221cb is the successor of the the J15cb? Problem solved, no?

I cant see any reasons not to game a set of 221cb's or 222cb's. They look awesome to me. As a former Z101 gamer myself, I would give serious consideration to playing either of those 2 new Bridgestone offerings.

Agreed on the new models. They look awesome but one big hinderance for me…I’m lefty. Haven’t seen anything from bstone in lefty in years.

I've only owned them a couple weeks. So I've only hit them on the home LM/SIM. But so far haven't noticed any inconsistencies  that could be attributed to the club. Ball speeds and distance on well struck shots are pretty tight.

They are definitely rockets. Was hitting the 4i the other day and was getting ball speeds approaching the 150 range. So I may have them bent a degree or two weak.

They're great irons and probably the biggest sleeper in the PD category.

Old home:  0311P Gen 3

Gen 3 0311Ps are solid. I tried to make it a long term thing but it fizzled a bit for the Srixon Zx7, which fizzled for the Zx5, which got booted by the Wilson staff model blade/cb combo which is still in my backup bag watching the J15s move back to first bag.

I could definitely play the 0311P. I just feel the hype about feel leaves me wanting. The club feels fine, but IMO not exceptional. Then when the reviews and commercials talk about their amazing feel it makes me wonder what I am doing wrong and how much more is in the iron than I have found? Do you find the feel top 10%?

Are they going to be easy to find and test? That is the thing the prohibits me from getting excited. If my fitter does not have them and they don’t come to my club for a demo day and they aren’t plentiful on the used market….tougher sell to me.

Sure. I would have a similar outlook. But I also think there is nothing better then getting a set of irons (used), trying them out for yourself, then moving them on if they don't work out. At most you lose a couple of hundred bucks, max. Maybe not even. I have found some of my best irons this way (Wishon 550c, Tourstage Z101) by just taking a chance and playing them for a few weeks/months.

Great question.  I do.  J15, Srixon 785 and 0311P are the three softest and most forgiving irons I have played.  This includes the Mizuno 921 Forged which doesn't do it for me.  Neither did the Callaway Rogue ST Pro.  Distance is secondary to feel and forgiveness for me and I keep coming back to the 0311P Gen 3 (and have recently bought a new set at like $90/club from PXG) because nothing else can beat those characteristics for me.  My last and hopefully final shot is going to be a combo set of T200/T100, and I am only testing those because I share the sickness.

I played the Gen 3T’s for a short while and I thought they were incredible!  Just a bad shaft fit for me.  Great looks and awesome feel.  Can’t imagine the p’s feel much different.  The Gen 3’s are so good!

Will be curious to hear your feedback with the t200/100 in comparison.

I am definitely the outlier on the Gen3 0311P I guess? I liked them…I really did. I am tempted all the time to grab a set with the amazing price PXG has on them.
Two things hold me back:

1. The feel is fine, but IMO not at the top of the heap. I put about 10 rounds on them but I honestly am thinking I missed something on those in the feel department.

2. Though the irons are a great deal now, the shaft up charge for me is significant enough to make it less of a great deal. After compound fracturing both arms, I am now prone to elbow issues. I have to stay with graphite and PXG’s no up charge graphite is too light for me. If they had the SF 95 or Recoil 110 at the same price I would grab another set.

I did get to hit the Titleist 620 CB on Trackman inside yesterday. That is what my PGA teaching pro plays. His shafts are X flex steel, so not in my wheelhouse, but they honestly felt pretty darn good. The sound had more of a click vs the thud of a J15 CB strike, but it did feel good. If I could hit them anything like he does they would be in the bag :-). My five iron is pretty close to his 7i….but my 5i is not near as accurate lol.

Curious how you feel about the Gen 3 vs 4/5? I’ve heard from more than a few folks now that they stuck with the Gen 3 because of the feel
