Can’t comment on the 5 b/c the looks turned me off so I skipped that generation.

 

Gen 3 versus 4 comes down to forgiveness for me.  The 4 had the same great looks, plenty distance, nice feel…but either they spun more for me at my swing speed or didn’t have the same weighting characteristics of Gen 3 that make them more forgiving.

 

Gen 3 keeps it online unlike a lot.  
 

I would love to hear what others think.

Was the Burner 07 irons for me with the black finish.. then on a whim purchased the Honma TW747P irons and they haven't left the bag for almost 2 years. And I also own a J15CB and a Srixon Z965, but they haven't been able to get any playtime

Two things hold me back:

1. The feel is fine, but IMO not at the top of the heap. I put about 10 rounds on them but I honestly am thinking I missed something on those in the feel department.

2. Though the irons are a great deal now, the shaft up charge for me is significant enough to make it less of a great deal. After compound fracturing both arms, I am now prone to elbow issues. I did get to hit the Titleist 620 CB on Trackman inside yesterday. That is what my PGA teaching pro plays. His shafts are X flex steel, so not in my wheelhouse, but they honestly felt pretty darn good. The sound had more of a click vs the thud of a J15 CB strike, but it did feel good. If I could hit them anything like he does they would be in the bag :-). My five iron is pretty close to his 7i….but my 5i is not near as accurate lol.

 

You’re not an outlier on the Gen 3 P. First off, it’s a lot larger head than I expected. None of the 0311 heads are what I would consider compact. And I agree the feel is fine, but not the best I have ever experienced, and for those comparing it to the J15CB, they don’t feel close to those. The Bridgestones are superior in feel, it’s a soft 1020 steel head. Very pure feel. The PXG feel is more manufactured, a recipe of polymer behind a thin face. Not knocking it, but it’s a different more modern, tech-driven feel, not a classic soft forged iron feel.

There are two areas of clubs where everyone will have a different take:

 

 sound and feel.

 

What feels like a marshmellow to one could feel like a jackhammer to another.

 

What sounds like aluminum bat hitting ball may sound like a wooden thwack to another.
