Bending clubs to tighten distance gaps. JPX 923 HMP

Got my irons at the end of last season. Played 5 rounds with them, and mostly love them, but had some gapping issues. Mainly between the 8&9 and P&GW. Gaps between those clubs were approaching 20 yards. I've done some simulator sessions and this plays out there, also. I know they're jacked lofts, so comments regarding that are unnecessary.

 

My yardages are as follows...

6i- 190-195

7i- 175-180

8i- 165-170

9i- 145-150

PW-135-140

GW- 115-120

My question is two parts, I guess...
 

1. I see irons that are heralded as great when it comes to distance dispersion basically have 4 degree gaps in loft. For example Ping i210 and i230. Should I just bend my irons so they achieve that?
 

2. What overall effect will it have on the dynamics of the club? Will it ruin the bounce? I'm a picker who rarely ever takes a divot. Is the possibility there that I just ruin a set of clubs?

 

My lofts now          What I am thinking of bending them to
6- 25                        6-26

7- 28.5                     7- 29.5

8- 33                        8- 33.5

9- 37.5                      9- 37.5

P- 42.5                      P- 41.5

G- 48                        G- 46

 

My wedge setup is 52-56-60, but I could swap in a 50 instead of the 52 if necessary.

 

Do these adjustments seem reasonable? I know there's lots of stuff I can Google and get some answers, but I've always trusted this forum more than Google. Thanks for any info!

Are u sure about those yardages ????  U only have 5 yard gaps between your irons ???? Also im seeing a noticeable  gap between the 9i and the 8i that u may want to close

I may not have written that clearly. The yardages are how far each club goes, with a normal strike. Obviously on poor strikes they don't . I haven't seen too many fliers or rockets out of these irons. They're pretty consistent, but the gap between them could be better. My gaps are 10-15 yards between irons, except between the 8 and 9, and the P and G.

I dont think u need to change anything except between the 9 and the 8i

Have you had the lofts checked? I don't see how you can have double your normal gaps between the 8i and 9i, unless the lofts are way off, or your not hitting the 9i very well.

I would just bend the 9 iron 1-1.5 degrees stronger from where it is and see what distances you get and how it relates to the 8 iron and PW. Fine tune as needed.

 

Don't get caught up on the actual numbers, get your clubs to go the distances you need and not just bent to some spec.

Thank you for this idea. Sometimes I'm guilty of going down rabbit holes, especially in the off-season. Would you recommend I also strengthen the GW, since it's so far from the PW right now?
