I personally don’t have too strong of feeling either way towards the guys in that role. If they provide some useful insight thats great, but for the most part to me they almost become background noise for lack of a better term. I hear them, but I’m not focused on everything they’re saying.

everyone will of course receive some criticism, but Miller and Faldo were liked by many. They may have even been liked by a majority. 

 

With Azinger, on the other hand, it seems like you’d have to find his immediately family members to put together 10 people who like his commentary. 
 

In general, I think the modern announcers just talk too much. They think the broadcast is about them. 
 

“Great call, Frank” — as if the viewers at home really care about Frank’s skills at predicting shots.

I think I've figured out why Azinger talks so much about golfers feeling pressure.  He's one of those people who projects onto others what they themselves are feeling.

I'm so old, I can actually remember when SI had actual journalists who could research, write, provide analysis, and deliver insight. If this piece is indicative of what they produce now it is barely above some guy's personal blog of hot takes. They didn't even use Grammarly on it.

The problem with these pga announcers are majority of these tournaments aren’t competitive coming down the stretch they have to manufacture drama.
yesterday was awful everyone knew the tourney was over around 8th or 9th hole can’t blame zinger for the poor product

Some highlights on youtube on days one and two have some anouncers saying the most annoying comments that dont even match the game lol like... boom hows that for dynamite. What?? He only drained a 4 footer though lol. They try to make it seemed action packed. Golf isnt action packed and thats fine. Us golfers understand that and just want to see people play well and have a fun competitive sunday ending.

Back in the ABC golf coverage days, Faldo and Azinger played well off each other. Neither performed as well solo. Azinger is dreadful now.

Agreed.  The chemistry they had was what made them good.  Individually they are nowhere near the same.

They should do a prop bet for the amount of times he says “intestinal fortitude” during the broadcast. I’d set the line at 8.5

haha! this is a callback to a video that went viral maybe 10? years ago of a college kid calling sports on his school’s news station. 

 

he was horrible, like beyond bad, but the one highlight he hit was a guy draining a 3 pointer and he called out “boom goes the dynamite!!”

 

if you didn’t see that video i can see how it comes off super lame, but that’s actually pretty funny.

First Mark. And he clearly has an RSA accent. The RSA accent is special, and differs from the UK or Australian accent.

Trevor, a little more americanized perhaps, but still you hear the RSA accent.

I'm no expert, but I also think that the RSA accent is differnt for those with Afrikaans and those with English as mother tounge. I guess Trevor and Mark's family is English speaking, and Louis below speaks Afrikaans?

The singer from Manchester UK might have a voice similar to the Immelmans, but the accent is different!

He fills up way too much air time with - nothing.
