DG 120 x100 vs DG x100

Recommended Posts

Dont think theres a huge difference between the two, other than weight.

I think both shafts are very user friendly.

Im not a huge guy when it comes to feeling this, feeling that. If i had to say maybe the middle section of the 120g version feels maybe a tiny bit stiffer than the normal X100.

I quite like the lower weight now im a bit older 7 iron swing speed is about 90, 6 iron will be in that 92-93 mph range. My tempo isnt super quick but the transition is a bit abrupt.

I could still play normal X100 no problem from a feel perspective, but I just feel swinging 130g all the time can be a little more punishing on days where youre not really feeling it.

Thanks - one of the big reasons I was concerned with the x100 is swing fatigue that may creep in towards end of round.

Quick transition with lots of change in direction and speed. I swing kind of like a combination of Furyk and Rahm. 100mph 7i.

Sorry for the thread bump, but I am getting older and have been playing the DG X-100 SSx1 for years now. Now that the 120’s have been out for a little bit, I am thinking of trying them out.

For those of you that have hit both, would I play the same shaft and soft-step with the 120’s or go with the 120 X-100 straight in or go down to the 120 tour issue S-400?  I have heard some saying that the 120’s felt stiffer than the standard DG’s.

They feel the same stiffness-wise so I would keep the same ss1. S400 is quite a bit softer. I have played 120 X100ss1 and currently have a set with 130g X100ss2 and it is exactly what you would expect. The ss2 is just a hair less stiff than ss1 but stiffer than S3/400.

I can't speak for the X, but I hit the S versions of the two on Friday. I have a moderate tempo and ~86 MPH 7i SS. I could definitely feel the softer middle in the 120 version. The standard basically felt stiff the whole way through while I could feel the flex and kick in the 120. It felt similar to the kick in the KBS 120's for me, just lower in the shaft. FWIW, the Project X LZ's are my shafts - they have the softer midsection but do not feel as soft as the DG 120.

Data-wise, I was getting higher ball flights and more spin with the DG 120 - about 10' higher and 500 RPM higher spin.

How about dispersion? Were the 120s more or less dispersion?

Dispersion was fairly equivalent. The standard DG was slightly better, but it was not significant enough for me to overrule the flight characteristics and could have been me have a better swing with that group.

120X100 is noticeably lighter. Swing speed and ball speed is up a few mph. My problem with them is I struggle to feel the club head in transition and my dispersion is worse. Normal X100 to me has better feel and control.

Wouldn’t you feel the club head more with a lighter shaft ?

Player dependent but I did not experience that. Swing weight and total weight can work in mysterious ways and in my experience the 12g less total weight made it noticeably harder to "feel the head" in transition even if the swing weight scale shows a heavier swing weight. I would also get quick in transition with the lighter total weight and have a hard time striking the center.

I have now tested the DG TI 120 vs DG TI standard X-100. The 120’s flew a touch higher with equivalent spin. I also noticed that the 130gram DG had a slightly better dispersion (for me). I stayed with the standard.

Funnily enough, I ended up getting a good deal on a set later on in the year and ended up going Standard DG as well.

I think this is a pretty fair summation. They feel like a KBS tour with more movement in the middle but unlike KBS tip does  not stiffen as much. More technically they have less lattitudinal stiffness. Idk about 120 X100 but id like to try them too. Overall I just don't see how you can take 12 grams of weight out and keep the same stiffness without using some different kind of material.

I tested these two head to head.  Performance is nearly identical.  Maybe a touch more higher and spin with the 120, but no more than 5 ft and 100-200rpms.

feel wise, I’m in the camp that the 120 had a more linear, less feeling of loading.  Almost lighter and stiffer.   I think that’s likey due to it requiring less force in transition to get moving.  The 120 was noticeably easier to hit my normal distance and was easier to hit a controlled fade.  The 130 almost felt like it had more a snap to it at impact I had to time.

i went with the 120 as im not getting younger and looking to move away from the 130 shafts.  For testing I was using a blueprint s head and was averaging 98 mph swing speed on a qc quad, indoors off mats

It's quite simple, they alter the shaft diameter, larger = stiffer. This is how an X100 can be stiffer than an S400 yet lighter.

Granted I've played X100 and 120 X100.. they are indeed different profiles. And its because of how they've manipulated the diameter. 120 X100 is a stiffer mid feel, softer butt (think Whiteboard). OG X100 is a little more linear. Its not drastic but I feel it, you'll see in my sig I have both in my current set with a 120 in my driving iron.

I just put the DG 120 TI X100 into play, and got them out for the first time today on course and iron striking was some of the best I've ever had - so stable into wind and able to control trajectory so easily.

For anyone gaming the 120 X100, what hybrid shaft are you playing?

great shaft for me:

- 120 grams so there's 10 grams weight relief vs the 130 grams heavy weights, but not so much that it feels too light. The downswing in particular is where I would have trouble feeling the shaft if it's too light.

- It's also very smooth and stable that will give back what you put into it .... Half swings and knockdowns will feel firm, but full swings that you're looking to get something more out of will feel smooth

- Mid section holds up with just a touch of give near the tip. But unlike a PX, the butt stiffness is not exaggerated and neither is the "spring" at the bottom.

Took me a while but I feel I finally found "the one."

🥰

Im not a huge guy when it comes to feeling this, feeling that. If i had to say maybe the middle section of the 120g version feels maybe a tiny bit stiffer than the normal X100.

I quite like the lower weight now im a bit older 7 iron swing speed is about 90, 6 iron will be in that 92-93 mph range. My tempo isnt super quick but the transition is a bit abrupt.

I could still play normal X100 no problem from a feel perspective, but I just feel swinging 130g all the time can be a little more punishing on days where youre not really feeling it.

Imo the bend profile of DG120 X100 is like a mild reverse of KBS Tour 120; I e., KBS is stiff butt, boomerang soft mid, stiff tip. Compared to KBS, X100 is a touch softer butt, much firmer mid, somewhat softer tip.

Have also played standard DG and experimented with DG 120 - it seems like the softer butt of the 120 makes it feel a little harsher (some have said stiffer in the mid) by comparison. OG DG is technically stiffer in the high mid, but doesn’t feel that way. Anyone else start to feel the balance point too low with DG 120?

Also, quick note on KBS tour - that’s generally a stiff mid, soft tip shaft, with butt stiffness increasing as the weight and flex increases. DG 120 will be softer in the high mid, and quite a bit stiffer in the tip than KBS

Bumping an old thread.

Question for those who have made the switch.

I have a set of 120 and OG in 2 different sets. I'm  intrigued with the 120s, interestingly enough, they feel stiffer and more stable than the OG.

Others finding the same?

Also, what did you do for wedges?

I've always been in s400, but looking at the spec sheet for 120s, S400 is actually LIGHTER than X100.
