Finally some clarity on eligibility for the Tour in 2024 including the designated events, playoffs and status for the following season.

https://www.pgatour.com/article/news/latest/2023/03/30/details-on-pga-tour-s-eligibility-adjustments-for-2024

The top 70 players on the 2022-23 FedExCup Playoffs and Eligibility Points List will qualify for the first of three FedExCup Playoffs events, the FedEx St. Jude Championship, and be exempt into all Full-Field TOUR events for the following year. Qualifying for the Playoffs also ensures that a player will keep his card for the following season.

The top 50 players after the FedEx St. Jude Championship will advance to the second Playoffs event, the BMW Championship, and qualify for all Designated and Full-Field events for the following year. The Designated events are the eight events next year that will feature fields of 70-80 players and have elevated FedExCup points and purses.

The top 30 after the BMW Championship will qualify for the season-ending TOUR Championship. Qualifying for the TOUR Championship is an accomplishment that also comes with a two-year exemption on TOUR.

Players who finish outside the top 70 in the FedExCup will compete in the FedExCup Fall to retain their playing privileges. At the conclusion of the 2023 season, the top 125 on the FedExCup Fall Points List will retain their cards and be exempt into all Full-Field events in 2024, including THE PLAYERS Championship. Nos. 126-150 on the FedExCup Fall Points List will maintain conditional TOUR status.

Players who finish outside the top 70 in the FedExCup will retain their points from the Regular Season and compete in the Fall to stay inside the top 125. Nos. 51-70 in the FedExCup at the conclusion of the Playoffs will also retain their points entering the Fall and compete for spots in 2024’s early-season Designated events.

Now we just need the fall schedule and the list of 2024s designated events.

Notes:

  • FALL 2022 schedule shown above
  • Designated events are italicized

WGC Match-Play and Mayakoba are gone.  Houston takes the WGC's place  Pebble moves to designated status.  I think the TOUR throws Jack a bone: moves his FL event and makes it a designated event 2024-only.  Mexico Open moves to the vacancy post Los Angeles.

December will fill up with PNC, Mixed Event and Hero.  I think the OWGR major member tours (outside of the Asian Tour) will look to co-sanction a "major" event each in the Fall/Winter

Will the following events move to the Fall or become Alternate Events opposite the designated events?  Perhaps the tour appeases Rahm and adds the Spanish Open?

Following events not added.  I can see the Tour losing some of these along with New Orleans.

Puerto Rico

Dominican Republic

Barbasol (Nicholasville, KY)

Barracuda (Truckee, CA)

Fortinet (Napa, CA)

Sanderson (Jackson, MS)

Shriners (Las Vegas, NV)

Zozo (Japan)

CJ Cup

Bermuda

RSM (Sea Island, GA)

The tour isn't axing Napa, RSM, or NOLA anytime soon. All of those sponsors are signed til at least 2025.

I hope this isn’t the schedule. Pebble shouldn’t be a designated event and I don’t get the point of the US Open being sandwiched between Memorial and a designated event

I would guess this is 90% final.

AT&T wants a Designated Event.  Format will be changed to pro-only on the weekend

Sounds like The Genesis, The Arnold Palmer and The Memorial will be Legacy Events with a cut.

Reminder that no events (other than minimum req for membership) will be mandatory for 2024.

Nice to see that Adam Schupak (NOT to be confused with Alan Shipnuck) reads GolfWRX forums... LOL 😛

A bit of an exaggeration, but I get the point.  Plenty of Texas and Florida guys want to win in front of home crowds.  Unfortunately, those feel a little jammed in with the PGA Championship now in May.  I think a FULL Texas consecutive swing would add some excitement and continuity to the schedule.

The Canadian Open is a shell of its former self where it is before the U.S. Open.

Is the later half of the season (say post U.S. Open) a bit sleepy because the courses are not great (at least on TV)?  I do dig the Scottish Open and the BMW has been at some diverse and interesting tracks over the last few years (Olympia Fields this year and Castle Pines! in 2024).

Perhaps this leaves some room in the Fall and early Winter for the British PGA Championship, Misc. European Opens (Irish, Spanish and French), DP World Tour Championship, Australian PGA and Australian Open for some top International AND American players?  Perhaps wishful thinking if the $$$ is not there...

I guess tinkering with schedules and purses has always been with us, but they’ve changed so much so fast lately that I’m lost. Maybe it will all work out and everyone will get rich and fat and happy, but I’m not sure my interest in the PGAT will ever recover. It feels a bit like post-strike baseball - something just seems gone.

This thread is probably useless now lmao

Maybe... The "new entity" deal will probably not get finalized until early 2024 (IF all goes smoothly and things get approved by all parties, regulators, etc.). The 2024 schedule will need to be in set in place, however.  2025 will start to look different.

I think...

Guess Golfweek didn't get the "signature" memo...

API made it in as a top-4 big purse 'signature event' if I'm reading this correctly? So basically one of the 4 best events outside the majors?

You’d think they could at least play it on a top 5 course in Orlando
