I Googled it after reading the thread last night and watched about 30-40 min. I had previously stumbled upon a video of the kid w/the man bun and his buddy. I now know he is another “Good Good” guy. Where they randomly approached some guy at the course and challenged him to a match. Wasn’t really sure who they were, which is why I asked my initial question in this thread. Guys are decent enough players. I’d say on par with the other 20 something “golf jocks” you see regularly around the courses. Far from a pro, definitely better than your avg random golfer. I see the appeal, especially when they hang out and challenge real professional golfers. But won’t make an effort to watch any more “content”. And i get why OEMs sponsor these guys. It’s all about impressionable eyes and wallets. And these days that’s social media. Still think it’s ridiculous anyone would be influenced by what a social media personality plays that happens to be an amateur golfer. But again understand why the OEMs do it. It’s the world we live in. To each their own.

Oh, you "googled" it? Got it. Phew. At least now you've done your research.

I suppose you get your news from tiktok or facebook as well.

Good grief

Morris has played and held his own against PGA Tour winners, Dechambeau and Bryan, Korn Ferry Tour player Luke Kwon etc.

Nobody forcing anyone to watch anything they dont choose, but to ignore the impact of what this generation of youtube golf has brought to the game is beyond ignorant.

Taylormade, Titleist and Callaway arent stupid, getting their brand involved with the content being created is a sign of the times. Golf to the general public without Tiger basically didnt exist, its ratings depended on his appearance. Now, thanks to youtube/instagram etc the game has reached an incredible level of popularity

But hey, you do you and enjoy google

My only issue is he mentioned gaining 15-20 yards upon switching to TM driver-whether  true or not, kind of a slap in the face to Mizuno, and how many of his “followers bought a Mizuno driver… 🤷‍♂️. I wouldnt trust them in anything they say regarding equipment. Its good marketing for TM because eyes will be on their products.

He said it was due to its low spin. And I heard 10 yards not 15-20.

My news from TikTok or Facebook?! Lol I’m not on either and you couldn’t be more off base. Try reading all my posts if you want to criticize me. It will be obvious that I don’t deny the impact. Not agreeing with and denying are two completely different things. And I Googled them to find the videos on YouTube so I could watch the videos. Did I do it wrong?! Lol

I'm part of the old fashioned crowd as well, won't buy things because people on YT play them. Heck, I won't even buy things cause pros are playing them. But, the reality is we are the minority. If it makes golf more popular, we get better/more golf stuff. Influencers wouldn't be a real thing if they actually didn't carry influence. Odd to me still, but Callaway most definitely expanded their reach with the GG gang. Just think, every video they put out now has some Callaway spin in it, with MILLIONS of views weekly.

Agreed. The influencers aren’t the sad thing, the sad thing is how effective they are. They are a product of the the general publics gullibility. I read that of all the “influencers” on TikTok hawking fitness and nutrition advice, less than 10% are actually qualified to give such advice… So a capful of ACV every morning won’t actually make me magically lose body fat??? Taking advice from anyone being paid to give that advice should always be taken with a big gain of salt. If you’re dumb/gullible enough to fall for it, I say caveat emptor.

My understanding is that the problem was the celebs weren't telling people they were being paid by the companies.

Quoting the word of the great Stone Cold Steve Austin.  Here's what I think of these people going to TM.

Good for them.  I have no problem with pay for performance.  Pay is for eyeballs of the target audience.  Non pros have a more relatable game to we mere Am’s than tour pros do.  Golf is after all a participation sport for most of its audience.  Cannot say the same for NFL, NBA, MLB ect.

BTW, I did play 18 holes with Grant a few years back.  He was still in college.  Winter break I believe.  He shot a 70 on an unfamiliar course playing with some old men (us).  Course rating  was just under 74 from the tees he played.  Nice young man, good game.  He is a realistic scratch player who does not have eyes on playing professional golf.

Man there are a lot of old sounding folks in here who do not understand digital content, segmentation, and targeted marketing. I'm not sure if people are mad at the current state and advancement of the world, the manufacturers, or these young kids who found a way to make a living recording videos.

Half the posts in here just scream bitter.

Pardon my ignorance. But are we talking about the guys that have golf videos on YouTube? If so, were they/are they top D1 golfers or Korn Ferry/professionals or something?? Or do we now actually care what clubs YouTube amateur golfers play??? Asking for a friend.

Once again I think ur confusing “thinking it’s silly ppl care what YouTube influencers play bcs they are being paid to use it” with not understanding why it happens. It’s crystal clear why the likes of TM and Cally sponsor these guys. Highly doubt anyone here doesn’t understand that. Has anyone actually posted “it’s stupid OEMs sponsor these guys?” If so I missed it. And personally not mad at any of ‘em. God bless ‘em for finding a fun way to make $$$.

He has zero chance of ever making it on Tour OR ever winning a long drive competition. Also, plenty of people hit it long and that means absolutely nothing. The reality is Micah couldn't even win a local club championship. The only reason he's signed is because of his YT sub count and that's it. Good for him though, he's living the dream.

I mean...he won a local "pro" event.  He is capable of shooting low.  I think you are just in your feelings about him.  If he puts the work in, I am sure he can become better.

Was gonna say the same thing.  Bet he can beat about 99% of the golfers on this forum.  I, for one, am jealous of how him and Grant get to make a living!

I give Micah, Grant and the GG guys props for making a business out of digital content creation.  As for Callaway and TM sponsoring these guys make sense, it’s eyeballs and clicks on their channels.  The cost of making commercials or doing elaborate photo shoots, probably isn’t dollars well spent when Callaway can get 4-500K views for a bag of clubs and access to their stable.  People don’t like watching commercials, so these guys hitting a drive and saying this stealth or paradigm driver is just so good gets the message the OEM wants.  If Grant and Micah are going to be decked out in TM hats and stuff that’s a lot of eyes on brand, the GG where they have their own line is less eyeballs is a bit puzzling from a standpoint of traditional endorsers are logo out like nascar.  I mean when watching any golf video it’s hard for most people to identify the specific club someone is hitting in those 2-3 seconds on camera.  OEMs also know that most equipment is purchased by an older demographic, so targeting younger golfers who eventually become the ones buying their clubs is good business, since I have yet to meet the guy that has eternal life.

Are these guys going to influence me personally, no, but I’m also not a brand whore who is easily marketed to.  I can do my own research and make informed decision.

*just noticed this thread was moved into the ‘19th hole’ sub forum! Lol

It’s where WRX puts YouTube golfers. Bitter, old mods! Haha

You just have a general problem with all influencers. So the issue here is that you have a complete disconnect with Gen Z. Ending every post with 'I understand' doesn't make it true.

Your definition of "pro" and mine is clearly different. If I entered a local one day tourney with a bunch of 9 and 10 handicappers and won I wouldn't say I just won my first "pro" tournament but that's just me lol.

Hence the quotes.  But I think he was around -6 in his round.  He has the speed to be very good.  He just needs a coach and to put in the work.  He has potential to be a great player.

Right now he is a good amateur player, does he have the potential to be a very good player, yes.  I just don't think he can get there being a content creator and an aspiring pro golfer, because you have to be all in to even get to the KFT.  Take a look at Luke Kwon, I would consider him a better more consistent golfer than Micah, and Luke was struggling to keep his card on the Mexico tour and then after his accident, I think he realized he could have a great life playing golf and creating content, without the higher stress and grind.  Maybe Micah eventually gets to this point, and he should try to make a KFT event or qualify for a US Open, I just don't see any sustained success happening unless he stops or significantly reduces content creation, but he can't since it's his income, whether through YT Ad revenue or something like the TM sponsorship.  I am certain there TM put some requirement for how often he is creating content and that could be the bigger factor for him not making it.

I agree 100%.  It is an uphill battle.  I even posted on his video, when he announced he was going to pursue a pro career, that it would probably be best to drop YT and focus on golf.  It is one thing to be good, it is another to be a pro.

I am such a hater and I know I am when it comes to these guys. But to me the whole running and screaming down the fairway when someone sticks in to 4 ft just makes no sense to me. (yes the par 4 hole in one is super sick, don't come for me about that). I'm 27, played D1, never good enough to chase it, but still competed at a very high level. So in theory I should be right in line with related to these guys, but they just flat out grind my gears. GoodGood is however AMAZING for the growth of the game. I can't tell you how many sets of Mizuno's I saw last year in bags of most if not all 15 and under handicaps because they fell in love with golf during Covid and saw that's what the GoodGood guys (Garrett and Grant) played. So @TiScape this is basically the new age Rory to Nike, Tiger to Nike, Jordan to Nike move. Right now these guys are absolutely dominating the Social Media golf market so it's an absolute no brainer. It's crazy to think that the needle doesn't move as much anymore for Tour guys switching versus "Golf Content Creators" but that's just the way it is I guess. I mean I love the BustaJack guys, and I sit hear and rant about GoodGood, BustaJack was the reason I tried PXG and now I play a full bag. I don't play them to be like them, but it was the exposure that got me interested.

Hope this helps,

Cheers boys!

wait did you just put good good to callaway/taylormade in the same sentence as jordan to nike?  maybe im a curmudgeon..  but this is blasphemy..  hahahaha

Yeah, it's interesting. You look at Titleist and that brand is practically built upon the up-and-comers; the nameless, faceless, aspiring Pro, the college golfer and the serious club enthusiast. They don't really want more than 1 or 2 top names. That's not even their image. JT and Spieth are perfect for them as they're both still young. Even JT has strong ties to being a college player at Bama.

Titleist now sponsors No Laying Up which is a group of podcasters/youtube golfers. Granted, they are seemingly more mature and reserved and (to me) less annoying than GoodGood style YTs but...still...they are influencers basically. And titleist also sponsored or did a deal with the Chasing Scratch guys (podcasters/youtubers). So no brand is safe. Ultimately, it is probably fairly inexpensive to get those guys so why not?
