Classifieds Transaction Wrong Headcover Sent

I am not sure if I should contact the seller. I bought a g425 3W on BST that was advertised with headcover. I gave seller an offer and he accepted and I sent the paypal. I assumed it came with the stock headcover because there was no mention of it otherwise. Seller sends me tracking the next day with this message: 

'Here's the tracking. It's got a 410 cover. Thanks again.'

Should I bring up the cover discrepancy? The 3W head is great condition, but I feel like slightly mislead with the headcover. I am just OCD about it and I just don't like it being mismatched. I honestly will probably have to procure a new matching one.

“G425 with headcover” means a 425 headcover in my eyes. If the seller didn’t state G425 with G410 headcover , I think your post is warranted. Did you not question it in the tracking pm?

Agreed - unless it specifically says "with 425 or matching headcover" I've learned to always ask to make sure. Technically you got exactly what was advertised so I'd accept as is with lesson learned if it was me. Sucks i know. 

 

That being said I'd think you could easily find a matching headcover on the bay or 2nd swing for very cheap.

The seller should have stated what cover it would be coming with especially since it wasn't coming with the original headcover.

 

If the headcover wasn't pictured I would have asked.

 

You should have said something as soon as they told you it was coming with a G410 headcover if it bothered you. 

 

I wouldn't be happy with a G410 headcover and I would have to buy a G425 headcover myself. 

 

Not coming with the right headcover may have changed what I was willing to pay for the item.

Misleading of the seller, If the wording is exactly as op said. G425 with “a” headcover , ok I could see it. Otherwise, why would the seller state it’s got a “g410 headcover”  with tracking information? That the seller felt as if he wasn’t forthcoming in the add.

Shady IMO.  The, "it's got a g410 headcover" in the tracking is very reflective of a guy who knows he pulled a fast one.  Technically you got what you paid for but I'd complain.

If the HC was that important to you, there should have been a clarification question posed to the seller.  Not to say the add was perfect but can always ask to make sure.

Ok all fair points. Seller completely deleted his ad no archive or anything so I can't even reference it. Will ask and double check in the future. I do get the feeling that he was trying to be sneaky about it.

Just reach out to the seller and explain that you feel there is a misunderstanding. 
 

this may really just be that. He may not see a big deal about the head cover and not realize it is important to you…. 
 

just ask… if he has good feedback, I think you two can come to a reasonable solution. I don’t think anyone wants a buyer to feel like they had one pulled over on them….

Seller was either trying to be sneaky, or does not care about head covers (or both). I never use the head covers the come with the club, so I don't really care about them. They get tossed in cupboard right away. Having said that if I was going to toss I a head cover with the sale, I would describe what you get.

You should report seller to mods as he's not supposed to delete the contents of the ad. IMHO he was intentionally misleading about the head cover.

Don't get me wrong. I am arguing that it's not right or not shady of the seller. Just saying technically he sent what he sold. My message was more of advice for the buyer that always ask questions to know exactly what you are paying for. Between BST and the bay, I've learned not to assume I know what's coming if I buy it. I always ask any question I have so I know I am getting exactly what I am looking for. 

 

Shady is the right word for this particular transaction - I am just saying if I was the buyer that I'd be chalking it up to a lesson learned and saying "well-played" under my breath.

And this is one reason why the rule about not deleting item descriptions in your ads is in place!

 

OP should PM GWRXMod so we (collectively) can try to find the ad and restore it and/or relevant details if necessary.

I'd just reach out to the seller and try to get them to kick in some $ so you can get a replacement headcover.  Check 2nd Swing for price on a headcover, I got a couple from them previously and prices were good.   Or reach out to Ping customer service and see if they will send you one, I did that with Callaway and they gave me one for free.

As a seller, I would never say “with covers” unless it was the stock head cover.

 

and I would show photos of the headcover. 
 

but, as a buyer, when I see “with Headcovers”, I might ask which headcover just to confirm. Since it doesn’t say “matching headcover” or show a photo.

"All with covers," is the lead line and once sold, "it's got a g410 headcover."  he knew what he was doing....total bait and switch. technically a used sock can cover a club.

If an ad says "headcover included", I am going to assume that it means the stock headcover. Hell, that's what I say when I include the stock headcover. If I'm listing something with a mismatched headcover, I say so.

 

The onus is on the seller to fully disclose all irregularities in the listing. If an ad says that a club has a Golf Pride grip, I'm assuming that the grip is coming on the club and not loose in the box. Don't make it the buyer's responsibility to ask questions that should be answered in the ad.

If I was selling a club that didn’t have the stock headcover, I’d specify. 
If for some reason, I forgot to mention it I would message the buyer before  I shipped it and offer a refund.

Sellers don't have the ablilty to remove ads. They're only removed for rules violations. 

 

PM me with the sellers name if you want me to look into finding his ad.

Sorry for the mess up on this. I never use the stock covers and should’ve checked before I posted the ad. When I went to ship I noticed the 410 and sent him a message. Never heard back from him and assumed since they got a great deal all was well. Buyer messaged me over the weekend about their concerns and I immediately asked what would make it right and then did what the buyer asked. Once again it was an honest mistake and a lazy oversight on my end that won’t happen again.
 

Also, wasn’t aware that hiding the post deleted it. Thought you clicked that when everything was sold. Will not do that again and in the future tag it to be deleted. I’ve been selling clubs for 22 of my 34 years and this is the first time and hopefully last time I go to jail!

I think it is important sellers and buyer communicate with each other first if there are things going on with the transaction. 
 
mistakes happen. It can save a lot of time and energy and concern by simply communicating with the seller before coming to the boards. 
 

Over enough transactions, stuff goes wrong, but I have found in dealing with members that have good feedback… we always try to do right by each other. 
 

the real challenges come with those that don’t have the feedback…. Or the inevitable FF PayPal stories…
