Vokey 56 D or F Grind?

I'm ordering up a new set of Vokeys for the season.  I'm definitely more of a digger so ordering 46F, 52F (12), 56, and 60T for low bounce around greens.  Which grind in 56 would you recommend and why between the D and F grind?  The S and M Grind are too low bounce for me.

I've had both 56D and 56F. They are both nice, so it really depends if you want to rotate the face on the 56. If so the D is much better. The F has 2 degrees more bounce.

Do you like to use the 56 out of the bunker?  Do you manipulate the face with your 56?  If yes to either, D grind no question. 

 

So versatile around the greens and automatic out of the bunker for me.  I use it in the 60 and it's a weapon

I will use it from the bunker and will open it on occasion.  I don't see a lot of D Grinds on Tour in 56 just the F grind so made me question my decision.

I'd go F grind imo. I found the D grind to dig in too much so i'd end up with massive divots. 

 Switched to the F grind a few years back and it's helped my turf interaction in fairways while still being solid out the rough.

I'm not 100% on this, but I think you see a bunch of Full Sole Grinds (F/K etc) because they start with those heads for custom tour van grinds.

I think the D grind would pair well with the T in your 60. Lots of forward bounce with a lot of trailing edge relief for versatility around the greens. Effective bounce is weird. The D grind has a higher actual leading bounce angle than the 14* F. The flip side is that the F has no trailing edge relief while the D grind has quite a bit. The 14* F grind will feel slow through the turf, especially in the rough. Can be more prone to bouncing off firm lies. And yes, you can open the face on a F grind but the leading edge will sit a little high. 

 

Put another way. the 14* F grind is most like a Ping iron. The 12* D grind is most like a Srixon iron.

What type of shots will you be hitting with your 56?

Full shots, partial shots. Bunker shots. Chipping and pitching.

Don’t sleep on the S grind either. I have the 54 and it has 10 degrees. Great wedge

Then D grind would make the most sense for you. The heel relief will help from the bunkers. Plus it’s always a good idea to have a higher and lower bounce option for your two most lofted clubs. That gives you options for different turf and sand conditions.

Partial to D grind. Still great on full shots but allows you to open the face up without exposing much more leading edge. F grind feels like it's more for fuller square face only.

Guessing, you probably don't use 52 out of bunkers much, so 12' of bounce on 56 would address that void. 

 

With the new T100s irons, I have 44' PW and 48' W, which fits nicely with 52'/12 and 58'/8'.  My 52'/12' is used for longer bunker shots.  Not sure, but think my 48' has 10' of bounce; it will get some bunker use from 60yds + out.

This may be true, but I am sure they have blanks to work with.

 

I have heard this claim a lot around here but I think it sells the F grind short.  It is an actual grind not a blank.

 

It's also fantastic and it makes a ton of sense that pros play this grind.  They hit full wedges a lot, they play soft sand and deep rough, all of which the F is great from and they usually pair it will a low bounce lob wedge.

 

I feel that the better I am playing the more I like the F.  If I am getting lazy, I like something like an S grind because it hides my bad technique (great wedges BTW, nothing against the S.)  If you use the bounce on the sole, the F can't be beat.  It's really a fantastic club.

56D would work well with your setup--  so would a 56F with a heel grind.
