Some from last weekend. Mountain Lake CC in Lake Wales, Fl. It's a really old, exclusive private club. What a layout. Seth Raynor had a field day with the greens!

Awesome. If you have a link to a gallery I'd love to see them. When I saw him with Maroon 5 a few years back I got to sit 3rd row. Mayer was awesome. I can't seem to find any of my pictures from that night though. :wub:

Man I'm stoked on this thread- just found it. Love photography, although I'm not trained or anything. I have an XTI with a 50mm 1.8 and a 70-200 F4 L.

JJ, those are awesome panning shots, esp the audi in the middle. Do you shoot with a monopod? What shutter speeds are those at?

 

I love taking panning shots, but mine are always kind of hit and miss- any secrets for an amateur?

thanks for the comments and as for acctually taking the shots, no i didnt use a monopod, and my camera was set to shutter priority at 1/250, with a 400 iso and a custom white balence. i use a sigma 70-300 lens with the focal length between 150-200 do to how close i was to the track, and the tip i would give to get great panning shots is to first practice, then set your camera to multiple frame shooting and take of the atuofocus (if you leave it on it will want to refocus after each shot slowing down the process) if you want any more info just ask

Awesome, thanks. I've always tried it at slower shutter speeds than that, but I'm sure it's easier to blur the background when the cars are going so fast. Fedex trucks don't do 200mph very often ;)

Just a quick touch in Lightroom. I really like the effect it gives most of the time. I'll post up some more in a bit, or tomorrow.

Went to this place called the Willow Tree Cafe last night. It's a legitimate German restaurant. The food there is incredible, as well as the live entertainment. I'd say you need a decent DSLR. I've taken some decent pictures on a point and shoot, but the SLR offers SO many more options. Especially when it comes to lenses. I would hang out with someone who shoots to try and see if you like it. Have them explain what settings they have the camera on and why. There are a ton of websites out there as well that explain things. Hope to see some shots from you soon!

Just to add to this comment, a good lens is more important that a good DSLR, albiet the difference changes with your level of photography knowledge.

 

I've pretty much exhausted the range of the point and shoot that I own. If you want to see those shots, there is a link in my signature, but the golf shots are probably the least quality of the bunch. If you want to see some ridiculous skill in using a point and shoot, check out the photostream of K Weav on Flickr...she does mostly portraits, but it's beyond impressive given the equipment she uses. Getting an SLR is a commitment of $1000+ for an entry level Canon or Nikon...so you better be sure you like it enough.

 

ALSO! Be careful or you will eat into your golf club purchasing funds!

I have a Canon Rebel XT, I got it for my wife last year, but the bug has bit me now. I want to learn to take advantage of its abilities. Anyone have any tips or favorite websites for learning?

 

I just ordered a 70-300mm lens to take with me to the Masters for Monday practice round. Any good tips for pics there?

It's kind of a want what you can't have kinda thing. A lot of enthusiasts like the look of the euro plates so they throw them on their cars. It also shows support for the country where the car came from.
