Interesting marketing strategy paying golf labs (who are known to find results that benefit who is paying them) to compare them to ProV1.

I’m not saying this can’t be a good product at the price point but does anyone knowledgeable really think this is comparable with a ProV1 in terms of performance or overall quality?

This is really competing with other D2C balls which is where the story really is.

Geez, some people take that spy site rhetoric serious apparently...

I don't think you are going to get an answer

Other than "Softest premium ball on the market" or "Softest tour ball"  or "softest extreme ball ever made" some non answer that tells you absolutely nothing about the ball.

I got the same response from Mizuno about their golf balls

I need some of you to do a test comparison as my wife will kill me if I order more golf balls right now. If they perform well I might be interested at $35 a dozen since maxfli just increased prices on the tour series.

MaxFli's are still cheaper @ 30 a doz if you buy 4 doz. You can also find $20 off coupons and knock that down to 25 a doz.

Picked up a dozen today.. playing bay hill a few times this weekend.. ought to be a great testing ground since the course is basically tournament ready.

Only hit some putts so far, and it’s definitely firmer off my putter than my normal AVX feel wise. I’m a huge PXG guy but pretty skeptical of the ball. Curious to give it a ride though!

I'm just curious the overall value knowing they are basically a "stock" ball at a DTC production type facility. Almost like component companies using open model heads. I don't see a  value of paying 25-35% more over Vice and Maxfli knowing that the testing will likely almost be exact and they are likely made in the same factories. Seems the way they started with clubs though, expensive, exclusive and not available at retail, then it changed in the first year.

Yeah, sounds like it’s very similar to the Kirkland, which may not be bad if the cover is better. Not saying the upcharge for “PXG” will be worth it, but the initial tests I see show it similar performance and spin/ball speed to ProV but more green side spin. It sounds like what I want, but never know until you try.

If anything, this ball would share characteristics with the short-lived 4pc Kirkland Performance One with similar number of dimples a larger/harder core and a similar thicker cover. There's only so many ways to design a golf ball which works for everyone as they claim, so borrowing ideas from across the golf ball manufacturing spectrum should surprise no one. Pretty sure every golf ball company is guilty of this practice year end and year out. Looking forward to getting mine on the course soon and seeing how these things play.

The other golf website said this ball is made in the same factory as the Kirkland ball and it has the EXACT same cover. That’s probably why this gentleman was getting so much spin.

That other site really doesn't know what it's talking about most of the time unless Dean is whispering in their ears.

Must be player dependent. This was posted today and his spin numbers vs Pro V1 we’re almost identical.

I’m a huge fan of PXG, but I’m a bit skeptical as to why Parsons would be interested in manufacturing golf balls. I’m not sure he can have the same success disrupting the golf ball market like he did the equipment market.

I’m tempted to buy a few dozen to test them out, but I’ll probably wait and see if I can find a few strays on the course first.

If you can believe the write-up about these balls, it sounds like the engineers he picked up from Ping were not able to work on clubs so they worked on this ball for the last two years.  And it sounds like they did a bang up job.  Pricing could be better - at least have an introductory pricing to get people trying it.  But with Hero's pricing it's only 34.99.

I generally play a mid level compression ball such as the Chrome Soft or new Maxfli Tour S, but I like Parsons entry into the golf market so I ordered 3 dozen to try and share with my playing partners.  I don't think PXG would release a ball that didn't perform comparable to the best, so those are the ones that will get hurt most by this ball.

I suspect that if this ball is successful, we'll see a "soft" version down the road.

Unlike many, I judge a ball by performance within 150 yards and how it feels off the putter.  If it performs there, I can put up with a little firmer feel.

At this point, I just can't believe all the DTC balls that have come out in the last 5 years.  Profit margins on golf balls must be pretty good, but some of them have to be hurting.

Also seen a lot of comments about comparisons to the Kirkland ball, but the original 4pc K ball is gone and the replacement is a spin machine off every club in the bag, but the PXG has pretty low spin off the driver, so that should put an end to the comparisons.

Margins on golf balls are very high. Given that PXG isn’t incurring any manufacturing cost since they are being made at a 3rd party factory it’s an easy way to grow revenue.

7 yards of roll with a wedge?

That’s why I’m always skeptical of these numbers. Throw a ball at the green with over 10,000 rpm and it rolls forward? Seems very unlikely.

The tests weren’t done on a green. They were done on the range where Golf Labs does all if their ball and club testing. If you notice, the Titleist balls showed the same rollout distances.

Why do you assume we're trashing PXG?  Both @deepred and I noted that 7 yards of roll with a PW is crazy to us, but neither of us called out the PXG ball... we can both see that are three balls showed similar results.

I wasn’t assuming anyone was “trashing” anything or anyone in any way. I was merely pointing out how and where the test was performed. I wasn’t defending or promoting any ball either. I don’t play either ball btw. Once again just stated how Golf Labs does their testing.

I was really keen to try these, but not going to bother if it’s firmer feeling.

Been away from golf for the best part of 20 years, and I can’t get used to the clickiness round the greens. I have no confidence with wedges, and putting feels horrible.

What’s a modern ball that feels like a Rextar Promodel? 😝
