After his wager the line moved to the Nuggets -3 1/2.

Things are looking pretty good for him right now with 9 minutes remaining and Denver up by 17.

Had to pick up a couple engine blocks from a buddy's shop and this sexy thing was there.  He just rebuilt the engine and got it back in an buttoned up. Chrysler 6 cylinder.

We used to waterski behind this exact model.  Dang that thing ran up a huge wake. If you hit the wake with some speed you could jump over the whole wash.  Great fun as a kid.

I am going to put it on the line here and I may not be popular any more. There is no one in golf I really dislike except Greg Norman and I never liked him in his playing days. Rory I have grown to dislike. Not because of his PGA stance but because of his actions. He helped get the Designated Events thing started and was on the board that made the rules. They set up the rules as to miss only one event on the list and I can see that. He decided to miss the second event at Harbor Town. For me that put him on the line of a lawmaker who disregards the laws he helped make or the most low down scum that crawls on the earth in a crooked cop. I could see it if he was physically hurt like Jordan was at the AT&T. He skipped Harbor Town because he was pouting because he did not do well at the Masters. That 3 Million "fine" the PGAT put on him was a slap on the wrist, IMHO he got a case of the butthurt and thinks he is above the rules so to speak. And on the thing of 2 wrongs do not make a right the PGAT should have never scheduled a designated event right after a major. Bottom line as far as I am concerned I could give 2 hoots less if Rory ever wins another event

Firing up this machine this AM my news feeds are already touting warnings of low air quality for here in Coastal SC. Our local news comes on at 5 AM so I will check it out. I did go outside to walk the big boy and could not tell anything because it was still dark and I did not smell smoke or anything. Our news media around here tends to have a major kneejerk reaction to any and every thing and blow things out of proportion

They took the $3 million out of the $9 million the tour gave him for being “popular.” Heck, Tiger made $43,500 playing golf and got $15 million for being “popular.”

I did have an interest in the results of tour guys/women I worked with. That’s natural. Anyone else, or team sports, couldn’t care less.

My interest in professional golf is casual at best. I will occasionally tune in if it is convenient.  Most broadcasts are disappointing and the current game is mostly boring to watch. In my opinion, the obscene money being thrown around has resulted in a lot of vanilla characters and it is all about the money. The recent news just reconfirms my views. Forgive the rant.

 

I am looking forward to golf today as it is one of our special events. We will be having our first event using clubs from the late 1800’s using replica gutta percha balls. It will be a fun day and I would like to add that we did not receive any funding from the Saudis 😀. My reward will be consuming the Hickory Burger special after the round. I am also hoping to win a big stakes match ($1) from one of my buddies. 
 

P.S. 

 

I had access for a free pass to the Canadian Open this week but decided to take a pass. The main reason was that getting to Oakdale would be a royal pain. Toronto traffic and the parking nightmare are something I like to avoid.

Man, that brings back some memories. I helped my step dad restore a Chris Craft back in the ‘70s. Ours had a Ford v8 mounted in a housing right in the middle of seating area. That thing was loud and it could fly. Best ski boat ever!

That’s the problem with 24x7 coverage - got to gin up the viewers! I realize I’m coming off as an old guy, but I sure miss the days of 10pm local news followed by national news. 30 minutes per broadcast and that was it. Want the deetz? Go buy a newspaper. Everything’s a performance nowadays. Funny thing is that networks were required to provide news as a public service in exchange for the publicly funded broadcast infrastructure. Then 60 Minutes came along and the networks all of a sudden realized that they could make money with news programs.

#1 son is going Friday as a guest of a supplier in a corporate tent on 14.  He gets to go to basketball and baseball games the same way in the fancy boxes.  Perks of the job...

 

For me I find a great disconnect between the magical world of professional sport and the rest of us.  So much money being thrown at these things.  Meanwhile, the world is on fire, prices are going through the roof and too many folks can't find an affordable place to live!

Professional golf will have to take a breath for me to put it on TV.  I am with Chisag, there is a difference between politics and human decency, and when money is the arbiter of where the line is drawn on human decency I am out.  I will still pick people but I won't put eyeballs on the proceedings unless it is a tournament put on by another entity, which I think is just three majors.  I feel for Rory, too.  He was the face of this and he put himself out there for the good of the tour and next thing you know, he didn't sell out but the people sold out beneath him.  I haven't liked McIroy since he cut his hair, but that was disappointing and enough for me to wish him the best going forward.  Having said this, I also agree with Stu, if you make the rule you have to follow the rule.

 

I stopped into the Lounge on a recommendation concerning a post from another local PGH'er who went to the D&Co show at Starlake, apparently it was a disaster.  But then I saw Aenemated note Pearl Jam.  I don't know them, but apparently they are all very nice guys.  My wife knew them well before they became Pearl Jam as we know them and said they were very respectful and quiet.  I loved their stance against TM and everything they have wrought to the music world.  John Oliver did a piece on TM a few years ago (maybe during the Swifty revolt) and it is criminal what they have been permitted to do when they merged with LiveNation.

 

Judge, Jury, and Executioner of the concert world.  Something needs to be done IMO.

Of course you are all aware my wife is now simply known as Mrs. P3P, but back in the day she was more singular.

 

As it happens in the world, and as Aenemated knows, the music world is small.  My wife left her former employer (restaurant) back in 2001.  About 10 years later a story got back to us, and it went like this:

 

Fugazzi is opening for Pearl Jam and they finish their set and they come in and visit briefly before PJ takes the stage:

 

Eddie Vedder, "Hey, do you guys know what happened to Mrs P3P?"

Fugazzi drummer, "I heard she got married and started doing something else."

Jeff and Eddie, "Man, she was the best.  We were just talking about her and wished everyone was like that."

 

The Mrs ran into Jeff a few years later on the street and she didn't want to cause a scene, but Jeff made sure to go out of his way to give her a hug.  He is by all counts just a super nice down to earth guy.

The trailer was 10k. Matches bottom paint. 

 

He probably rebuilds 20 Chris craft engines a year, at least. Guy at the other end of town restores the boats. All in a little town in NE Indiana.

Great story Pete. First time I’ve seen someone mention Fugazi on the site! I was a big fan years ago. Ian is a legend from the Minor Threat days as well. Thanks

They all get used. Worst thing for a wood boat is to keep it out of the water.  Didn't show up well in pictures, but all the black on the interior is alligator.
