Daley was gonna hit some drives over the clubhouse and onto the 10th hole which was about a 300 yd carry. He did a few of those to the delight of the crowd then some idiot says "Think you can clear Route 53?" And Daley takes a look and figured it was about the same distance and fired off 2 drives into traffic. The Wilson CEO missed the first one engaged in conversation but saw the 2nd and stopped it immediately. One of the most reckless things I have ever seen in person. Daley thought it was funny.

... Women tend to be more literal and logical than men. It just makes sense to keep the face square to the target line in the backswing and most definitely in the follow through. In order to keep the face square through impact you have to turn your body instead of throwing the club past your body. The vast majority of women I taught pretty much fell into this category. The baseball swing helped many of my students both men and women understand the natural movement of the club. Hope this helps!

 #5, uphill par 4. Right is disaster (OB). I aim at the second L fairway bunker because no matter what I can’t reach it. Good drive leaves about an 8i up the hill over a deep L front bunker. 
 

 

Third shot on #2, short but massively uphill par 5. This is where I got greedy, hit the trunk totally square and almost hit me. Good thing my ball speed is lower now. 
 

 

#18 turns L to right, miss R and you’re down a hill on the driving range. Miss L and you’re on the #7 tee box or in the parking lot. One shot from tee box, the second from the green looking back.

Thanks! Here is #1, where you get a better sense of the terrain.

 

To my immediate left is the practice green, a large shared green with #2, a short par 5 that plays straight back up the hill. #2 plays as a par 4 from the tips, so the black tees are in front of the regular member tees. I am not sure I’ve seen that anywhere else.

Interesting that your practice green and #2 green share a big space. Maybe grab me a shot of that the next time you play?

Chef walked the practice round today in Scotland with one of the 3 players who are in the house this week. He told me the weather is quite nice. Things are starting to get a bit thrilling across the pond for our American boys.  USA USA!

... For quite a few big tournaments Aguila turns the par 5 10th into a par 4. Blacks are 531 with a pretty big slope most can reach leaving a mid iron to the green so they move the tees in front of the Mens/Seniors to the Red tees and play it as a 442 yd par 4. But I have never seen a set up like that as a permanent tee on any course I have played either.

A buddy and I bought golf cards for $69 that allow us to play 10 different courses in SW MO for cart rental only.  So far we have visited 5 of the 10 courses.

Good Wednesday afternoon!  I have golf league this evening and tomorrow I am heading to Wichita to pick up a vehicle for our local dealer.  I may listen to the song "Wichita Lineman" as I travel across KS.

Yesterday was the 8th of July so I knew I was in for something unique during my round. 

 

It was even hotter than last Monday when I played down in Rutherfordton. I prepped my body for it prior to my round and kept the fluids and nibbles coming during the round and am happy to report that I had no wooziness or dizziness all afternoon.  

 

It was a very long day at the course. We played 3 holes and the lightning sirens went off. BFCC installed a state of the art warning system last year and it really works well. I am on the list of employees that have the system's app on my phone so I get all the info. The storm delay was an hour and 15 minutes. We resumed our round starting on hole #4. Due to the fact that I was playing with some slow senior players we let 2 groups of scratch players through on the back 9. When it was all over I had spent over 7 hours at BFCC as our round took 4 hours 35 minutes. When I walked to my car at a bit past 7 PM there was a rainbow over the 8th hole. How did I play? I will do a dual recap post later combining yesterday's 18 at BFCC with my round that I am playing later this afternoon. 

 

 

Ryan used to work with me for a few years and we played a good bit together when he was in Asheville. Last fall he took a job at the CC of Orlando. Well Rhino is back visiting the mountains for a couple of weeks and wants to play a lot of golf. Today he invited me to play with him and 2 other assistant pros from this area and we will be playing at a course that I have been wanting to get back to since I played it for the first time 2 summers ago. We are playing Fazio's famous Champion Hills Club. Tom himself has a big home on the golf course. I put Champion Hills right up there with CC of A as the most scenic course that I play in this area. Fazio is my favorite course designer. I am very glad I got invited to play with Ryan and the other assistant pro's and I am super excited to play that course with that group. I just hope that they don't forget to stop at the Senior Tees to let me hit when they are driving from the Tips. 😀 The last photo is from my round at Champion Hills in June of 2023.

Situated just south of Hendersonville and 45 minutes of Asheville, Tom Fazio devised an 18-hole routing that accentuates the surrounding Blue Ridge Mountains and rolling terrain with as much as 350 feet of elevation change amid deep ravines, mountain streams and heavily forested hills. Each fairway is carved into natural valleys as Fazio's team worked to create playing corridors that allow members and their guests to navigate the hilly terrain. Key thing is that he started running instead of gawking.  Of course, he knows his home park and how balls die in Triples Alley.  As expected, statcast had that as a homerun (over the fence variety) at every other ML ballpark.  He's had a tough last 1+ season offensively, so I was very happy for him.  I'd be interested to know what Pat Burrell said to him during that postgame celebration.  Burrell has been taking all sorts of flak as the Giants hitting coach.

... Viva La Electric Revolution! Stopped at Sprouts yesterday and there were 3 Mach E's and my GV60. The 3rd White one pulled out just before I could find my phone and take a photo. Looks like the Blue one drove here all the way from Chapel Hill!!!

This is the season for afternoon storms here in the hot and humid southeastern US. It was 91* when we teed off and again today the lightning warning sirens went of and we came in off the course. Then we went back out. After the 9th hole the sirens again went off. The radar looked bad. I only got in 9 holes this afternoon at Champion Hills. Ryan didn't make it. It was just Nicolas, John, and myself. I still had a fine time. Man that course is beautiful and man that course is tight, hilly, and difficult. I was +5 after 9 with zero birdies and one double. 

 

I'm sure I will get another chance this summer to play CH but hey 9 is better than none. 

 

The photos surely do not capture the severity of the elevation change that is such a part of Champion Hills.

My specific thread for this got deleted 😂 ... but been on the design kick now that data is pretty much flowing from the API to my custom API (most APIs have a limit to how may times you can hit it - so you cache things on your own platform) beautifully. 

 

This general look is ALMOST there. Few things I wanna add (like, I have the playoff data from Sunday but haven't built out the client-side model yet), a search name feature (I command-F on espn.com all the freakin time), there'll be the capability to swipe/jump to different events and, of course, you'll be able to tap on a player row to get their scores by hole/round (also already capturing that data) at which point ... the innards will be in MVP state.

 

Finally; the lock screen live activity and notifications. That'll be the "killer app" part. 

 

Whew. Maybe I should actually go play!
