@Triple Lindy  I wish we had the option to can the afternoon storms and just shift like you are into the only sunny and hot gear instead.

... LP if you are giving out storms, I think I should be at the top of your list. No real rain here since February. Had one day in June with a few light showers but that's it.

Hey chi - see any of TOOL's performance at the Sabbath gig?

Dan's still such a effin monster player. Band I was in back in the later 90s - pre Vegas! - was very much a shameless ripoff (we basically mashed up TOOL, Kyuss and Soundgarden) and man, it was fun to decompose riffs into complete insanity.

Only real record I have of them days is some old demo mp3s and this from the jamming compound ...

All the wires on the right was the crazy composition of old 80s modules and triggers.

... One of the other big differences listening to The Open is a respect for the game by the announcers. European announcers talk less, with a lower register and don't call good shots great shots. The 'Murican crew on the other hand talk much f-a-s-t-e-r and LOUDER with a higher piercing voice, never stop taking and try and over hype everything. Making a huge deal out of a birdie chip on Friday for someone well off the lead as opposed to a low key "Well holed there" from the quality announcers. Tirico is just such a jarring shock to the ears after listening to the morning announcers from Europe.

Yep. You can set your watch to it.
Camera cuts to an obscure player sixteen shots back over a 35’ putt.
(Gee whiz I wonder what is gonna happen here?)
Putt goes in. Shocking, I know.

“Wow! What a putt! Amazing! Absolutely! I mean, he literally MADE that putt, didn’t he? Absolutely! Did you ever see such a great putt? Absolutely not!”

Nope. Never in my life have I seen a 35’ putt happen to go in. 🙄

I do like Kisner, I appreciate his knowledge of the game played at this level and he really seems to enjoy what he is doing and keeps it light without being a clown.

I’m not sure if Kiz was responsible for the massive F 💣 on the hot mic today or if that was Bones, but it sure was funny. 😂

... Everyone is on pins and needles wanting to know the weather in Phoenix. 🤥  While rain has been non existent, the heat has been much more manageable than last summer.

Work calendar opened up this afternoon and I wanted to get a late round going into the evening. One of my favorite things to do….even if I have to take a gas cart (we don’t let the electric carts out past a certain time so the cart guys don’t get stuck there late) or walk. But Mother Nature not having it today. We are getting ALL the rain this year after last summer’s drought.

... That's it in a nutshell ain't it? The British/Australian announcers give interesting background facts when appropriate, interesting details about the course or player and maybe a p[review of what kind of shot is needed. That really cover what we just saw like Morgan Pressel does inssesently along with every single missed putt is a push or a pull. No Morgan, even pros miss 6 ft puts on the low or high side because they misread the line.

While we're on the topic of TV golf I have to say I do love the professional golfers, upon missing a 5 - 10 foot putt, who raise their right or left arm to question why the putt missed to that side.  Ask your caddie about his/her read.  Ask yourself about your mis-read.  Or ask yourself why your stroke wasn't all that good.

That penalty assessed to Lowry is pretty tough. Though on the video, it is clear the ball moved and it sure does look like he caused it to move.

However, looking at Shane during the practice swing he was looking down range at his target and it appeared he never looked down at the ball.

So, if he told the rules official he did not see it move, I have no reason to doubt him. Golf has this hoary old “gentleman’s game of honor” thing where we call penalties on ourselves if we saw it and no one else did, right? And the championship official asked him if he saw it move and he truthfully said “no.”

Shouldn’t that be the end of it? No penalty? What am I missing? If the decision is already made, why ask the player at all and expect him to be some kind of martyr? I got sideways / upset with a rules official in an event last year on a similar situation…will explain after seeing some responses to this.

... Amen, especially the Spaniards. Sergio has never missed a putt when it was his fault. His after the miss stare while walking away keeps my son and I amused. If we did a drinking game for every putt missed and Sergio tamping down an imaginary unicorn on the green, we would be alcoholics.

... And hopefully not getting callouses from patting myself on the back but I rarely, if ever miss hit my putt. I mean really, we take the exact same stroke every single time, just a little longer or shorter. Sure I come up short or miss right or left because I miss read the line and of course I have putts bounce off line playing afternoon muni golf but I have had putts bounce on line in a good way so it usually all evens out. I have stated this before but my home course has the toughest to read greens of any I have ever played and 6 foot putts as little as 1 foot apart can break or not break differently. I have learned to make my read and hit my putt. What happens after that is out of my hands because we are constantly fooled by a few inches and that can make all the difference.

... I am probably in the minority but their rules in place to stop anyone from getting an advantage. I thought there was a rule that if a ball moves but you can't see it without close up high speed HD, there is no penalty. With the wind and rain I think there is a better than not chance that ball may have moved without Shane's practice swing. He wasn't Reed like tamping down the grass behind the ball, he wasn't attempting to improve his lie. I have seen balls move on far too many occasions to count when I didn't even take a practice swing or ground my club.

... I get it. Golf is unique. Players in almost all other sports attempt to cheat to gain an advantage. I can't imagine a basketball player when asked if he was fouled reply "To be honest, no I wasn't fouled". But this one was just an over reach imo.

I think when your ball moves you should fake a massive migraine and fall to the ground in agony.

... LOL, some do! But Shane never saw his ball move. It something I next to never do, call a penalty on myself in non tournament play. If I accidentally bump my ball and it moves, I just put it back. 2 of my playing pards always roll the ball so this wouldn't apply and one Canadian partner played strictly by the rules until I sold him my set of the new King Tec irons. He still follows every other rule, even the dumb ones like some yahoo didn't rake the bunker and a ball is in a deep heelprint, we just move but he won't. With his new irons, he is now following our groups local rule:

If your ball is in the desert rocks and you have a clear shot you can move it to the closest grass without a penalty. If your ball is in the desert rocks and you don't have an unobstructed shot we move it to the nearest grass with a 1 stroke penalty. The irony is every now and then, we have an unobstructed shot in the desert but moving it to the grass produces an obstructed shot. Since we don't dine with Musk or Bezos, with iron costing $1500 and up, destroying a sole and maybe the lower part of the face with one swing in the rocks isn't something we are prepared to do.
