I can't remember Lance but I met him about 5 years ago when did a personal fitting and demo day at BFCC. Great guy.

Sammy Sasso 🙁 got arrested in Nazareth PA and Lehigh let him go from the coaching staff. Man…that makes me 🙁 Bummer of a situation. Here’s my son getting in on Sammy’s leg at wrestling camp 4 years ago.

Too many coworkers are on vacation this week so I have to help with the final round of the Women's Club Championship and will be working in the morning. 

 

 

I believe the two hours that I spent on the range yesterday helped me greatly on the course today, that and the soft and on the slow side greens.  Man it was hot on the back 9.  I played well. My score was in my Top 5 for the year. Bill's golf buddies were great to play with.

OK here you go for those of you Bobby Grace putter fans. These are the two putters that are still in the bag for two of the members that got fitted for their putters by Bobby himself when he had a demo/fitting day here a few years back.  @NCLancer Mr Jones lives in Georgia not WNC is what I found out. 

 

 

These are not the milled blade style putters that you all were discussing but still they are original BG mallets.

Good morning from Portland, OR!  Yesterday was a very long day of travel for us.  We experienced a couple of delayed flights; the first of which required us to re-route from a connecting flight in Chicago to one in Dallas.  The second delayed flight caused us to miss the first flight to Portland, so we had to wait on a later one.  Then our later flight was delayed due to a maintenance issue.  We arrived at our hotel at 2:15 am local time, which was 4:15 home time.  This morning, we saw on the news there is a tsunami warning for the OR coast.  Let the sightseeing begin!

strange round of golf this morning. 

 

played as 3-some, and we each had a chip in.

 

2 of them on the same hole (me and other) for birdie, the other for par. 

 

also rolled in a birdie putt from ~15 yards from outside the green into an elevated green. Granted i was putting uphill, but it was just one weird thing after another.  had a ~10-12ft eagle putt that ended up further than what the eagle putt was but still made the next one. 

im hoping i didn't use up all my luck for this year lol

When he was at Ohio State he was supposed to come run practice at a camp my son went to for like 2 hours. They couldn’t get rid of him. He asked if he could stay overnight, then again a second night. He ran practice, played beach volleyball, ate with the kids, sang karaoke at night, everything, and this was at a camp with 150 kids from 4th to 8th grade. Fan for life after that. 
 

He goes back to Columbus and gets freaking shot, somehow got caught up in someone else’s car getting jacked. Very serious, nearly fatal. Recovers, learns to walk again, and incredibly, returns to wrestle in the Ohio State lineup a year+ later. He didn’t finish that, his final season. He is still very good at wrestling but said if he was not competitive for a national title he was not going to continue. 
 

He graduates, gets engaged, and gets hired as an assistant coach at Lehigh. 
 

In process of moving from Ohio back to PA he gets popped for expired OH registration. Ugh. Lacks concealed carry permit in PA, and has “THC” in the car….we know how progressive 🙄 PA is about such a life-threatening drug as THC so he has a problem now. Any good attorney should be able to plead that down, but in the meantime Lehigh fired him so he’s lost that opportunity to get started coaching at a program that should easily be top 20 this year. 
 

It really stinks.

Easy to blame the lack of progressiveness, but at the end of the day, ya gotta take responsibility.

He put himself in that situation, not them. The doing all that w/expired tags, to me anyway, is a bigger red flag of where he’s at, than the actual guns n THC. Just my humble opinion of course

He made a really bad decision, sadly. No question there, and there are consequences that he’s facing now.

 

Driving on expired registration, you can’t do that even if it’s not harming anyone. It is just…unwise. Not knowing reciprocity laws and the THC topic….I will stop as that’s impossible to discuss either without getting a vacation.

Ignorance of the law is never an excuse. That and taking ownership and not blaming, are a few of the things I didn’t take to, let’s say easily myself! Haha

But I’ve “been thru some 💩” and now fully accept n embrace the concept 😊

Not to pile on, but one can simultaneously be a great guy and a personal disaster, which is what this is starting to look like.  He possesses an incredible story, the rise/fall/rise again that we generally only see in movies.

 

He seems a little old to making these types of mistakes, and it is pretty clear there are multiple mistakes.  If you are driving a Lexus you probably aren't destitute.  If you are carting around guns, you need to have the proper paperwork.  If you are carting around weed in a state where it isn't legal then you have to have your green card.  Here is my issue with all of this.

 

There is no way he would have had time to get all of that done in PA, but if he had the OH paperwork I suspect all would have been forgiven because of the newness of the address change.  I/we can feel badly, but these are problems manufactured by him.

... and I feel pretty much the same. The mens power game doesn't interest me much other than Majors and Big Tournaments but as you know I love watching the women play. So many more skill shots and use all the clubs in their bag. Super excited about the Women's Open starting at 4am so I'll wake up to Nelly, Jeeno, Yin and quite a few others playing Links golf.

Chestnut Mountain

77* when we started our round. It hit 92* for our second half of our back nine. 

50% Humidity under mostly sunny skies and a 10 mph breeze for the first 14 holes.

No threat of storms moving in at all. 

 

There is no range at Chestnut so that meant my warm up was limited to stretching and practice putting. On the practice green it was obvious right away (as it always is at Chestnut) that the green speed was medium on the slow side. For 10 minutes I hit practice putts plenty firm and got a good feel for the pace that was going to be needed out on the course. I also discovered on the practice green that the greens were tender and semi moist under foot so that meant I could fire at pins and expect a land and stop finish or at the least a land, check, and settle within 6 feet.

 

The first 6 holes on the course are tight as heck, tree lined, and have sloped fairways. I leave my driver in the bag until the 8th hole on the front. On the first 6 holes I play a combo of 3,5,and 7 wood tee shots because placement is at a premium.

 

3 wood on 1 and then a 9 iron to the middle of the green. Two putt par from 35 feet. #2 is a Par 3 that played 143 yards. That is my 7 iron number. I flushed one that headed right for the pin. It ended up 2 inches from the cup. Tap in birdie. For the second time in a month I nearly made a Hole In One hitting an iron shot on a Par 3 to inside the length of a sleeve of balls. On #3 a par 5 I hit a PW for my third shot to 5 feet and made the putt for back to back birdies and -2 thru 3 holes. (third photo) Hit the Fwy with my 5 wood on #4 and then a 9 iron to the middle of the green and two putted for a par. On #5 the no.5 handicap hole I hit an 8 iron approach to 3 feet and made a third birdie. What the heck was this start....-3 thru 5? Three consecutive pars were next and then a bogey on #9. I finished the front 9 with a two under 33. What the heck it happened again.....I've shot in red numbers for the first 9 holes now a handful of times this summer and that is some rare stuff for me for sure. 

 

I started the back steady with 3 straight pars. On the devilish 13th hole I have never felt comfortable with hitting my tee shot any time I played Chestnut. It is a zig zag downhill Par 5 where the tee shot is so tight to hit the middle part of the hole and not hit it any any of the hazards in the fairway. In previous rounds have hit driver, 3 wood, 5 wood, and 7 wood in an effort to just tackle the first shot on that hole that is so tough. I have had marginal success using the different tee clubs. I decided to just go with a safe 6 iron to the left corner of the second zag and not risk hitting a wood. It was the extra safe choice I thought I was taking. What happened? I came over the top bad and hooked that 6 iron into the biggest fullest tree on the left side of the fairway OB. Re teed another 6 iron and found the fairway. I had another poorly executed shot near the green. When it was all over I made double on 13. I so hate writing a 7 on my scorecard. Even thru 13 holes. I started to feel the heat about this point in the round. I didn't feel bad because I had been taking in fluid and food all round long it's just that the breeze that we had went bye bye and the sun got really cooking and the temps climbed into the low 90's. I got the ship upright somehow after my messy double and made pars on 14-16. On the last two holes I didn't have much left in the tank and while playing on fumes I made a bunch of lazy short tired swings that caused a pair of bogeys. So with my double 7 and bogeys on 17 and 18 I had a 4 over 40 on the back and for the round it was a 2 over 73. 

 

Chestnut is tough right out of the gate. I got a handle on it early and that set the tone for my round.

 

Bill's friends have only been playing since their retirement years. They were very cool to play with and exercised proper golf etiquette and that was refreshing, but they took many times 4 or 5 shots to make it to the green. The pace of play was slow. The screen on our golf cart many times announced that we were 10 minutes behind pace. Our round ended up taking 4 hours 20 minutes. 

 

Game ball? I guess I will have to give that award to my love of the game. I am still as crazy about playing 18 holes with the fellas as I was over 4 1/2 decades ago. I got it going early so I gave it my best shot to stay focused throughout the round. I hit a few speed bumps towards the end but they didn't end up continuing and causing me to completely crash.

Those are some small greens, accurate approach shots are a necessity at that place.
