Callaway Jaws Raw Wedges

I currently have the Callaway MD5 wedges in my bag and I like them a lot. Has anyone modernized to the Jaws Raw who used to play the MD5’s and is it worth the switch?

I’d like to hear some feedback too.  To me it is bizarre that they only offer raw face wedges now. I saw a demo at the store and the whole face, not just the grooves, was rusted. I would think not a lot of people are going to like their $179 wedges to look like that.

Wedge play has always been a strength of mine, but I’ve never hit as many great shots as I have with the Jaws Raw, particularly partial pitches. For me, it checks all the boxes:

 

- Flights low on both full and partial shots (probably due to weighting with tungsten and the weight pad on the high toe) for more control and consistent distance.

- generates plenty of spin and quick stopping power!

- small leading edge chamfer just below the leading edge pretty well eliminates digging.

 

This all means you can be aggressive with the wedge and take dead aim at the flag without the worry of chunking it. Its not the greatest feeling wedge I’ve ever hit, but the sole is fantastic and the grooves create tons of stopping power (so many one hop and stop shots). So in terms of performance and ease of use/consistency, it’s the total package imo!

 

Here is how my 60* S grind looks rust wise after getting it from Callaway late summer:

I picked up a set of these when they were released, made the mistake of selling them in favor of Glides to match my i525’s.  The raw face was not distracting at all and when they’re in the bag they look like any other non-raw wedge.  Recently bought a second set new for another go around.  The Z grind may be my favorite grind I’ve ever played..  I was debating picking up a Jaws full face as a bunker club because that is where the Glide E grind really shined for me.  I may miss that club.  😂

I have a 52S, 56S, and a 60Z on the way.  Can't get here fast enough.

I decided to trade-in my MD5’s for the Jaws Raw. Too good of a deal on CPO to pass up. 52S and 56S. Thanks for the feedback.

Put a 50/10 in the bag to replace the Miura PP neo, it is just too big and chunky. 

Used it a few times today and it worked well, lots of spin.

Ive played md3 md4 md5... they are always easy to use great wedges that arent too heavy. I personally dont like heavier wedges like vokeys. Cleaveland is about the heaviest i can do. Cleaveland also makes amazing wedges. The callaways though are home for me. The stoppages are just insane. I cant rip it back but it sure  does sit fast.

The pre-worn leading edge is a game changer for me. Never tried anything like it. Makes a huge difference in contact.

I ordered a 58 Z to replace my vokey 60 T and ordered a 54* vokey at the same time. 
 

I’m considering sending the vokey back in favor of the Jaws - and I’ve never played a non-vokey wedge before.

I used MD5 Raw heads and really liked them. The Jaws Raw has some cool grinds but they look way too busy for my tastes. I have a set of SM9 Raw heads that I’m happily using now.
