I dont understand where people think they are "hot" coming from. There is no springy material.

Seeing them against all their competition at something like Cool Clubs or ex-TXG, they are right in the middle of the ballpark with comparable irons.

Being on the stronger side of the players irons (32 7 iron) and having the goo(tpu insert) behind the face contribute to this compared to say the king cb.  Face thickness could play a part as well but that’s not really measure or known.

*1. They’re the same distance as any other forging of the same loft I’ve ever hit. Just more forgiving.

I'm not saying they have springy material. I'm saying they're significantly longer than I expected given where I came from with the Apex CB (and previously played the ZX7). It's not a bad thing at all - just something to get used to.

IMHO it's almost certainly related to spin production, how the clubhead's inherent spin profile meshes with the individual golfer's spin profile.  "Hotspots" are something that have followed cavity backs for decades, and launch monitors have allowed us to understand that it's a "spin thing."

There was one set of irons that actually did have hot spots.  I had a friend that was a patent attorney for one of the big OEMs and he even admitted it to me.  They did fix it with the very next iteration and have not had an issue since.

All this to say, yeah, now that all the OEM's understand flexible face irons, you aren't going to see hot spots anymore.  What you see are people playing these flexible face low spin irons that shouldn't be playing them.  Fitters are trying to rely too much on descent angle to stop balls, and many stop even looking at spin.

So you take a 7 iron and a player normally gets 6500-7k of spin, then they don't clean their grooves and get a smidge of grass or water(dew) or something and the spin drops even more and you get the flyer that people misinterpret as a hot spot.

Begins with a p and ends with a 790?

Nope think way before the 790's.

Well, not WAY before, however earlier than the first 790's by about 5 years.

I ended up getting a Cobra/Vessel bag. I’m in love with the color and all my clubs fit perfectly. The dividers are solid.

I went from Mizuno 919t + modus 120s to King Tours + $-taper.  After 5 rounds, I switched out the shafts to modus 120s.

Seemed to have a surprising right miss here and there. We'll see if the shaft solves it.

Also surprised people think these are longer, my experience has been that my numbers are within 5 yards of the 919t.

So I purchased the MB gap wedge in this set to go with my flow set. Same shaft as the rest of the set KBS $ 120. When I received the wedge it seemed "lighter" in the head feel ( know feel aint real) so set email off to Cobra and this is their response "I can confirm headweights are different and that PW head will be heavier". so that confirms my feel but what is thinking behind this in the design? Thought the Gap should be heavier or the same.

That’s an interesting response. Normally, I would imagine the higher lifted you go the SW increases.

I’ve been playing the King Tours since July 2023. Phenomenal clubs. But at the time for some reason I only got 5-P. Just ordered a 4 iron to round out some yardage gaps up top.

always tempting to want to look down at something different…have you hit the Tours to compare to the PXG? Differences/similarities if so?

Yes, I get the itch often.

I have not tried the Tours, yet. I have been watching the auction site, hoping to pick up a set at a good price.

  • 2 weeks later...

Got the Tour black irons on the course for the first time today. All I can say is WOW. Everything I want in an iron. Excellent feel, looks, performance and great distance. 55 degrees today and first time I’ve played since October and you’d think I was in mid season form with how well I hit these. Just simply fantastic. Highly recommend if you’re in the market.

How are you liking the kbs tour v 120x?  I demo’d that shaft for the first time this past weekend and really enjoyed it!  Not sure why I have tried it before.

Heck yes, Bryan. I NEARLY went with the black flow set. I finally got out to hit balls tonight and worked through evens on the irons and just can’t get over how well I’m hitting them. I don’t know if it has something to do with the shaft and it creating consistency for me but these clubs are great.

They are great! I’ll be honest when I tried them indoors - they felt kinda boardy or stiff for whatever reason. Probably because I was coming from DG 120 X100 (which feel better/smoother to me). However - these Tour V really feel nice on the course and if I had to describe the feel of the combo in one word, it’d be “powerful”. Excellent flight for me and super straight. I really enjoy them.
