I caved to the pressure of this thread and in true GolfWRX Ho fashion I have ordered a set of the King Tour black with black shafts and grips. Pray for me.

In all seriousness, I have been eying these for quite some time. And with all the positive feedback I have read here, as well as other places, I have to see for myself.

Same here SMH and wish us both luck

Did a fitting recently and to spare all the details the King Tour ended up as a finalist for me, I've wanted to hit these for a while and quite pleased with them and how forgiving they are across the face and with the image that @Witt80 posted it makes sense. Now I haven't picked my new set yet, going to go back and finish up the fitting as it was a long one and a lot of fittings but the King Tour will go up against the Ping BPS and maybe a long shot in the T150s.

I will have some time to make the final decision, the Tours felt great, the flight was great, will have to look deeper into the spin numbers and what not but they're also priced really well and considering the shaft I need is a stock option the only upcharge is grips and if I go with them I'd most likely just get something loose in box and sell them to offset the grips I want.

I mean you can’t go wrong with the Bps or the tours.  I think the biggest different will be turf interaction.  Bps have more bounce and the tours and a little flatter, wider, and shaper.

For sure I remember the fitter saying how my delivery is pretty shallow (complete opposite of what I used to be) so could see more benefits from the Tours in that sense but the BPS were not bad to my ear and the fitters. At the same time we tried the Srixon ZX7 and those lasted 3 swings because the contact and what not was just awful and those have a ton of bounce.

This is basically going to come down to me just trying to hit as many consistent shots as I can with whatever the fitter things is the finalist and I'll go off their advice. If they say the Tours are the absolute best I'll go with those, same if it's the BPS or anything else. Just want the best iron for me current game whatever it is.

The one things with the Tours is just need to adjust to that wide sole look in the bag but they're fine at address.

King CB are great too @MattM97 did you give them a try?

I didn't I might ask but if the stats are good with the Tour don't see a need to try the CB despite them being visually awesome.

Where did you split the set and did you do any bending for gapping?

I did my fitting at Cobra HQ and was lucky enough to hit all the different numbered irons across Tour, CB, and 3D. Ended up with Tours 4-9 1* weak, and a CB PW. I didn't have any issues with looks, flight or feel in the tours until I got to PW which was flying too high and far for gapping purposes. In the typical break point around 7i I was still hitting the Tours straighter FWIW...the longer blade length was beneficial. I am a 7 and do not struggle with contact but do have face control issues, so this really was a goldilocks option for me. About 9 rounds in and loving them.

One potential nitpick on the tours (or benefit depending on your preference) was that they are really soft across the face, kind of like i210 a few years back. The CBs had more traditional feedback when you missed the center, but still did a good job of maintaining ball speed.

How did the 3DP feel compared to tour/cb?

  • The CB is a classic forging, amazing out of the middle, not quite Mizuno or Callaway soft, but softer than a crispy Titleist forging... traditional feedback outside the center. I absolutely love the feel of Cobra's forgings.
  • The Tour is a touch softer in my ear, I think it is very similar to i210 in that it's pretty soft across a large area of the face due to the cutout and TPU insert...traditionalists might not love it but I was fine taking a bit less feedback but more forgiveness.
  • 3D felt good. Different than both of the above, but very definitively not a hollow iron to my ear. Great out of the middle, maybe slightly less soft outside the sweet spot than Tours, but hotter and more forgiving. My prior set was a franken combo of 2021 P 790/770/7MC...in Taylormade terms it felt a lot better than 770, not quite as sweet as the MC but much closer to MC than 770. I've also spent a fair bit of time with the T150s, and liked the 3d feel better than those (which I also liked and would be happy playing).

If it wasn't double the price at the time I definitely would have gone with 3D given the performance differences are real, but am more than happy with the Tours.

I had the same experience at a Cobra fitting day. I was so impressed with the 3D irons, but almost fell over when he said the price. He also chuckled. Can’t imagine what the post tariff pricing would be if they’re done in China

I have the new tours but only have about 6 or 7 rounds on them and there is no visible wear.

I had the forged Tech black model of several years ago which used the same exact finish and even those after more than a season of use other than a slight dulling to a dark gray from black on the bottom of the sole of a couple of the wedges and very faintly on the face of the gap wedge they still held up amazingly well. The diamondized black metal that they use to create the black finish is actually mixed into the metal and this is a much more durable process then the way Callaway or Titleist use it where you start getting wear marks on it fairly easily.

And yes they look phenomenal!

Thanks, I got fit into these and deciding if I want to go with the standard satin or the black finish. I know the Cobra is the most durable but not sure yet if I want to go with the black finish. The shaft I got fit into are the C-Taper 120 which are a brushed satin, I know they have black but I don't want to pay the upcharge for aesthetics.

The C taper silver with black finish is pretty rad IMO! Also the Cobra DBM finish is unreal. I had my old versions of the CBs for about 200 rounds and even then, all I had was some fading on the soles. The look isn't for everyone, but if it is for you, you should trust that it will last.

Yeah would definitely be a unique combo for sure. I have black wedges already so black irons wouldn't be crazy to me, plus they'd look a touch smaller.

I know cobra has the best black finish and good to know they'd last a while as well. Plus they're "reasonably priced" for a modern iron.

TLDR. Going back to King Tours after a short break-up. They’re so good.

Played KT 4-G ~May 2023 to November 2024 with Modus 120S. Index (6.5) and ball striking improved to the best they had been for me, and iron play is the weaker part of my game. Treated myself to a Titleist fitting after a great season and went with a combo 200/150/100 set 4/5-6/7-G paired with Modus 105S. I was a bit surprised to get fit into the T100. Could be both a poor fit, wrong shaft, and losing my swing a little over the winter months but the KT/120 just perform better when I don’t have my best, and are incredible when it’s on. Feel like I had to work a little more the Titleist/105 (especially in the mid irons). The good was fine, the bad was bad. Could probably get away with moving to a full 150 set paired with Modus 105S or going back to 120S but the KT feel better.

It wasn’t broken, shouldn’t have tried to fix it. Excited to play the King Tours again.

I ordered them the day they came out in the fall. Spent a trip out to Utah playing them, also a little over a month of golf in the Midwest.

No signs of finish wear yet. Probably 15 rounds so far. I find them slightly longer than my Mizuno 919t and slightly more forgiving.

Remind me in a month once I get in another 15 rounds and I can take pictures.

HCP 9ish - 50ish age - Swing speed with driver 95 Mph. Went for an iron fitting tried T200, Jpx 925 Forged, I230 etc… Fitter put Cobra irons in my hand and for some crazy reason Cobra CB gave the best results… I should not be good enough for these but a few months later shot my all time best score 74 and HCP is now 7. Irons are forgiving enough for me - you get the feedback and they are not long but wildly consistent. 5-GW all Cobra CB - try them even if you are above a 3 HCP. Still can’t explain why these irons fit me best and I would never have bought these off the shelve #getfitforirons

Very nice! As a fellow lefty I wish I had ordered this finish, I went chrome. I will say I’ve been through a revolving door of iron sets and these tours are absolutely fantastic. Hope you enjoy your set!
