If you cannot get into the Carolina, or just want something smaller, stay at The Manor.  We stayed a couple nights there.  Great location a wedge from the brewery and with the complete remodel it is immaculate.  Great bar too.

Is the bar consistently open yet? Last fall it was supposedly open Fri/Sat only...but walked by Friday night and even then it wasn't open...

It was open both nights we were there - Monday & Tuesday.  Opens at 5pm.

I stayed at the Manor this last trip, the entire property was renovated and the rooms are pretty nice.  Stayed at the Holly last trip, also post renovation and no complaints.  I could care less to be honest, if the room sucked I’d just go sleep at home and drive back the next day.  In reality, I spend almost no time in the room, either playing golf or finding something to do.  When I average 50-100 nights a year in a hotel, being in a hotel room is not my idea of fun.

With regard to the comments on the grass not being green and lush, dormant Bermuda is still a much better playing surface than a course that over seeds with wither rye.  The overseeded grass needs more water and more often than not the course ends up playing longer because its wet and doesn’t feel right.  I played Pine Needles a few weeks ago, and Mid-Pines the weekend prior and they played a little differently because Mid-Pines overseeds the fairways.  The greens at both courses are fast and true, but Needles played truer and more consistently to the way it plays in the summer.  Southern Pines overseeds as well, played there a few weeks ago.  Wait until that rye dies out and the Bermuda wakes up, its a mess for a couple of weeks.  Same thing with TPC Sawgrass right now, that’s not green Bermuda you see right now and the course plays much truer in May than it does in March.

Just food for thought because one of the biggest problems that we have, as golfers, is the expectation for green golf courses.  I honestly don’t think that No 2 is much less green now than when the USGA dries the course out for the US Open and the course still plays fast as hell right now.

Dormie guest fees are for a day pass not per round. Would stay there, have lunch, replay in the afternooon. If you don't want to do all 18 again there is an easy 11 hole loop - you go from 6 green to 14 tee and play in from there.

Dormie is giving my member friend a super hard time about the "Stay & Play" aspect of their set up. They will not allow us to play Friday morning only and pay a guest fee and tip caddies and pay for lunch and buy souvenirs and drinks. I understand that rules are rules but for their national membership based program I thought a passing through friend of members would have no issue giving them some money for one morning.

I assumed you were staying a night to be able to play.

problem with making an exception to the rules for one group is if you start doing that where do you stop? There are thousands of members.

their goal isn’t a full tee sheet it’s to maximize the experience of the people staying on property

Unfortunately with Pinehurst and Mid-Pines/Pine Needle's booking requirements I needed to stay at those properties to book tee times in advance so I didn't have a night to spend at Dormie. I see your point on the exceptions. Slippery Slope.

12 of us going to Pinehurst this weekend for Bachelor Party this week, so pumped. Thursday thru Sunday weather all highs in 70s even 80s.

Thursday - CCNC (Country Club of North Carolina) Dogwood - just 3 of us playing in this round

Friday - late morning Cradle then 2pm #2 rounds, dinner at the Deuce right after.

Saturday - #8 in the morning then Cradle afternoon. Dinner at Carolina Dining room at night.

Sunday - #4 first thing in the morning

Combing thru Instagram at recent pictures and it appears to be getting greener every day, seems like it's been a very mild winter for most of us in the Mid-Atlantic so I can imagine ever more mild in the South.

Probably going to hit Pinehurst Brewery one day, as well as the breakfast buffet at the Carolina. If there is anything else I'm missing please share!

That sound like a heck of an itinerary. I feel sorry for the person stuck with the bill. 💸💸💸

Pinehurst Track Restaurant if you aren't getting the free Carolina breakfast buffet - great (and inexpensive) breakfasts. Get there early or you will probably have to wait. Has 10 or 12 tables.

Drum & Quill is a great little bar in the village. Good food there.

If you find yourself in the village during the day, go by and browse in the Old Sport & Gallery. 6 giant rooms of golf memorabilia and thousands of books. I spent about 45 minutes in there just looking around.

Get up early one morning and go down to the resort clubhouse and sit on the patio over No. 2's 18th green and watch the sun rise.

Quick questions to locals or any frequent visitors. What has your experience with inclement weather been like at PH? I'm not sure what rain is like there versus Midwestern rain storms. (I understand the rain is wet LOL) of course it is 75 everyday this week and next week when I'm there its calling for rain everyday. Thanks for the insight.

Honestly it just depends on the day.  Typically its just showers in April but we've had some really weird weather this year.  Rains/storms every weekend.  Perfect example was last Saturday poured rain for about 3 hours then cleared up and 75 and sunny.  Rain doesn't really make the courses unplayable down there though because it's mostly sand. So as long as the greens aren't flooded it's actually not bad to play in.
