Players on the clock (baseball)

So this geezer grew up with my transistor radio listening to Vin Scully and Jerry Doggett in the Koufax, Drysdale and Maury Wills era. As a lifetime baseball fan I appreciate the subtle building drama of the game. I know it is too slow for many, I get that. I just can’t imagine how these now departed greats would embrace these changes.

I like the idea for speeding things up. Less time between pitches, less time between action.

 

They need to find a way to reduce the reliance on home runs long term if they want to fix things. Not saying this as someone who is anti homerun, but when everyone is trying to hit home runs there is just less action going on on the field. More balls in play mean more entertainment, swinging for the fences doesn't get that. Current baseball is like watch long drive, you're just waiting for the long bomb, but waiting is boring and it may never come.

Good thoughts JcO. I have alway wondered why there are not more contact hitters like this guy. Seems like you should have both.

Problem is the current numbers say to swing for the fences. Contact hitters won't come back into the game until mlb decides to make it harder to hit home runs.

I grew up watching Fergie Jenkins pitch low 2 hour games on WGN.  That’s the way to go.

I never thought pitchers in the 1960's worked slow.  IIRC they worked fast comapred to today, Drysdale in particular.  I remember him and Bob Gibson buzzing anybody who stepped out of the box.

 

Things started going downhill with "The Human Rain Delay".  Talk about POP issues!

wonder if they'll be able to get to their steroid shot faster, or if the digital sign stealing will be affected ... baseball is a wonderful game, but mlb is a sham from top to bottom ...

Honestly, baseball was a great game in the 60s/70s.

 

in the 90s it became stupid.

 

after that? Who cares. They wear loose pants, they’re overweight but they have great hand eye co-ordination.

 

In 2023 no on wants to watch an analytic game.  Frankly, it’s stupid.

 

During a World Series, my wife who knows nothing about baseball asked me to stop telling her why the pitch was outside, etc. baseball has become even more predictable and dumb.  I played baseball through high school and the quit bc it was boring (catcher/first base).

 

4 hours to watch a middle reliever warm up. Kill me. Please.

Spring approaching is a nice reminder of just how much disdain WRX has for todays baseball! 😂
