Just ordered some MIZUNO JPX 923 Pro's

1st time in over 12 years coming back to Mizuno as I had some MP 64's but ever since I've been a long time off and on PING loyalist. I like them except for the sound and the flight was very high plus didn't care for that notch on the hosel. Now the i230 are out I don't like the gap showing on the back of the badge.  I know nit-picking. I had a slight mixed up with my recent order but PING did correct it but is seems that quality control has slipped a bit.  On a whim and based on reviews (I know...should have been fitted), Mizuno has a flatter lie than standard so my spec's that I ordered should be spot on as I purchased the JPX 923 Pro's for a very good price. Actually I'm so surprised that the JPX line is reasonably price compared to PING and Callaway new offering's.  I have not received them yet and I am hoping I get the same experience that other Pro owners rave about.  I'm going with Steelfiber i95 CW shafts as I do know what they play like as I do miss playing them. They look smaller than the i525, plus I do like how there is less offset. I played the Srixon ZX 5's with Recoil shafts, very nice all around except for the rust color around the badge that started to show up. PXG 0311 Gen 4 XP were very soft but GW was longer than my 9 iron, and I felt they were too light with the MMT shafts.

If the JPX 923 Pro's are as forgiving as the other brands that I have played and easy to hit as everyone says they are this is going to be a great 2023 golf season for me. Looking to hear from otherPro owners to chime in and tell me what you think of them and what did you leave to play them and has your JPX Pro's been everything you wanted in a set of irons. I'm going to miss my PING's as they have been very good but I seriously think making this change will help give me an edge in feel and distance for sure. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and I do like and think Mizuno's make some of the best looking irons and have a good selection of irons that meet everyone needs.

Assume by “Pro” you mean JPX 923 Tour. If so, will probably be somewhat like your Mp64 which was one of their most popular cavities for a while. Congratulations and hope you enjoy them.

I recently ordered and received the Mizuno MP223 and really enjoying them thus far coming from a 2018 Callaway Apex MB/Apex Pro combo set. Only thing I’ve noticed is that my Pw (which I got in the MP221) feels heavier than the rest of the set. Haven’t had a chance to weigh or swing weight it)

I always love the tours and would easily play them.  But the forged continues to be the sleeper in my eyes for most mid cap players.

They look similar to zx7 at address, but get really good ball speed and spin.  Would be a fun set to play with weakened lofts.

Many have brought up concerns about gapping issues in the shorter irons. Anyone else notice this? Would be a deal breaker if the scoring clubs have abnormal gaps i would think.  Loved the 7 iron when I demoed them.

If I were to consider the HMP, I would definitely get the forged in the short irons. I did demo the HMP because being a lefty, I've never had to chance to try them until the 923's were launched. Not my cup of tea, but they do launch high and the ball carries forever. Fun clubs to hit, but a ton of offset, thought about picking up a 4 or 5 iron to mess around with.

I really liked the forge but the pw is so round only thing holding me back from ordering.

I’m picky about pitching wedge as well, especially the set pw.  Along with the 8i design, it can make or break a set for me.

The HMPs do not have a lot of offset. They are identical to the forged according to Mizuno’s chart.

Huge gapping issues in my 923 HMP. Some are 7 yards, some are 20 plus. I had the lofts checked and they're spot on standard. I'm not interested in bending every iron to try to make it work. That disrupts offset and turf interaction. I honestly regret buying my HMP, but that's obviously just my opinion.

Offset is the same in HMP and Forged. Maybe you're thinking of standard HM.

From my Mevo+, my 9i is 5 yards shorter than my 8i and my PW is 22 yards short of my 9i. Just got them recently so I need to go in and get the loft checked on the 9i. Besides that every other one is a roughly 10-13yards apart.

No, only hit the HMP. Seemed to have a lot of offset to me, but they sure were easy hit.

Do you have to get a set PW?

Can't you just order 9-4 or 5 iron and pick up a wedge?

Yeah of course.  I was just speaking in general, not for me personally.

I’ll be mapping out my bag next week, I hope I don’t find any gap issues.

Interesting conversation as I have been testing irons this summer trying to determine which iron makes the most sense for me.  Currently play a split set of Ping G and iE1s and was looking to do something similar with the G430 and i230s (may still?), but as I am getting older the Mizuno 923 HMP, or a mixed set with HMs, is intriguing and after hitting them a few times I like the look of them as well.  even the HM's look pretty good for a GI iron.  Been playing Ping for a long time and it would be hard to switch but the HM and HMP irons look really good and perform similarly.

Multiple iron sets is the answer here 😛

Dramatic difference in the high bounce 230 to low bounce HMP. Also significant differences in offset with 230 being much less. I gamed Ping forever, but I've found the Mizuno to help my game. They really aren't even in the same category in my opinion. Both great, but they're just built completely differently.

I have the same issue. I have a huge gap between 7i (180) and 8i (160) on a full swing.

Have to hit knock downs and half shots for certain yardages.

It’s my only knock on the clubs. They are pretty good at everything else. I might ping them on consistency as I’m used to more playerish irons, but I knew that going in.
