Best Clubs near Fort Collins, CO… GO!

Moving to Fort Collins soon and need some help gauging best places to play, and maybe even find some playing partners. Go!

I’m in Timnath, so east side of I-25 and Harmony and usually play at Highland Meadows in Windsor. In Fort Collins I like Southridge then Collindale (munis) for golf but Collindale has a better restaurant with a great patio. Pelican Lakes in Windsor is great but it was harder to get a tee time last year since public tee times were limited to three days out. Raindance is long, brutal and makes you want to go back to the first tee once you finish on 18 and do it all over again.

 

In Loveland I like Marianna Butte a lot. The Olde Course is good but tight courses with several holes running parallel aren’t my favorite (see Highland Hills in Greeley, City Park nine in FOCO and Eaton Country Club (still fun, just don’t fit my eye)). Cattail Creek is a fun 9 hole par 3 course for a change.

 

Other courses within 30 minutes that I like are Boomerang in Greeley, TPC Colorado in Berthoud and  Saddleback in Firestone. If you can get on Harmony Club with a member it’s definitely worth it.

Went to school there many moons ago. While I didn't get to play much, I got to play all the courses in the area multiple times (other than Harmony club).

I came to the conclusion that golf in Fort Collins is just different. The only course, in my mind, that was close to worth playing was Highland Meadows. 

Things may have changed in the last 15 years though.

Edit: One of my buddies grew up in Berthoud and said the new TPC is really hard but alot of fun

Cody above summed it up pretty well I think, but in my opinion, Collindale is at the top of the class on the public side. It’s good enough that they play a US Open qualifier there. Highland Meadows in Windsor is right behind. To me it’s actually a more “fun” course than Collindale, lots of different type holes where Collindale is a pretty basic parkland style. 
 

It also comes with a big discrepancy in budget. The Windsor courses, Pelican Lakes, Highland Meadows, and now RainDance  all come with a fairly hefty green fee. Also going to be a bit more difficult to walk, if that’s important to you. 
 

While there are some pretty good courses, I don’t think there are enough for the population. I haven’t been in Fort Collins or Loveland yet this year to play, but in Greeley, the courses are just plain packed. 
 

There are several privates in the area also, but I honestly don’t have enough experience with them to offer any insight.

I lived in Fort Collins for a few years but am now in Estes Park. I really enjoy playing Marianna Butte - the back nine is really special as the sun is setting. Collinsdale is always popular as well.
