Zx5 i to Zx4 ii irons?

HI - has anyone made this switch? New Zx4s (mk ii) look so nice, thinking about demoing for added distance/forgiveness. Has anyone done this already?

I like that the ZX4 is Forged, at least on the face. I played the Cleveland Launcher XL last year and they were laser straight and even impressively penetrating at times.

 

However, I didn't like the cast feel and felt that I needed some more touch. So I switched to the ZX5 and do not regret it one bit. Your choice man, if distance is what you are after they won't be any longer than the 5's except for loft, which makes the shot tougher...

Is that right? Thought they are hollow body which make them longer due to increased face flex?

I currently have the zx4 mkii irons coming from an older set of 5 series.  I do not find any distance gains.  same lies, same lofts, same shafts, as my old irons.  they are more forgiving from what I have seen so far, but not night and day.  Taking a bit of time to get used to the thick sole but distance wise is not noticeable.

I can be wrong but I thought they were the same other than cast. The narrow head shape is the same though. 8 iron on down is not hollow body.

 

Bottom like there really isn't much difference between the 5's and the 4's. So get the ones you like the look of best. For me it is the 5's and the full forged body and face.

I’ve hit each of the V2 versions, but only indoors. My experience-

 

The V2 ZX4’s are now much closer to the original ZX5’s. The V2 ZX4’s only advantage is a larger face area. The disadvantages are a reduction in an already lowish spin and a larger sole/leading edge area, which brings the potential for adverse V-sole “activity” into play. That’s not a plus.

 

Tne V2 ZX5’s are basically a slightly smaller head version of the original. The main reason the ZX5 changed is to make room in the lineup for more player-oriented and higher-priced ZX4. The sole configuration hasn’t changed to the point of making it more ZX7-like, which would have eliminated the need for a combo set.

 

The V2 ZX7’s are not substantially changed. People may report small differences in spin and trajectory, but those changes will be overwhelmed by shaft selection.

 

In my demoing, the best approach to adding distance and forgiveness is to go ZX4 V2 in the 4 and 5 irons with the stock graphite Recoil shaft in F4. This also produced slightly higher club head speed and a reduction in swing weight to around D1.
