Fujikura Axiom, anyone hit these yet?

Are we sure that is how they are producing the taper tip version? Has Fujikura confirmed that because the graphics of the taper tip version remains the same length from the tip whereas if they were just prepping them from the parallel version the graphics wouldn't be the same length from tip? I don't know how responsive @Fujikura Golf are on here but maybe they can confirm?

Resurrecting an old topic - but I'm looking at getting an Axiom 125x for my driving iron.

Regarding the above - I'd wager they sort and sand in the taper in prior to paint/graphics for taper tip production runs.

This thread seems to have died down, but I just picked up a set with Axiom 105 S. I used some Callaway credit to order a set of Elyte HL with the Axiom 105. Really the easiest and lowest risk way to try these out on the course in the real world (Callaway return policy). I took them out for like 12 holes tonight, and I was impressed with the Axiom overall.

I have hit just about every graphite shaft in the 100-115g range. My favorites are the Steelfiber i110 R and MMT 105 S. The Axioms feel like they have a little more kick than the others, but were still stable and fun to hit.

I hit some outstanding shots tonight, and some less than stellar shots tonight. There was something a bit off on the turf interaction—more likely the heads than the shafts, but hard to know without the benefit of swapping in an Elyte X or Elyte head at a demo day (the risk of doing orders and returns with Callaway).

Specifically related to the Axioms—impressed, fun to hit, not so so much better than some of the other popular graphite shafts in this general range. I’ll plan on taking these out for a real round over the weekend to get a better idea of whether I’ll keep the set or return it. YMMV.

Ok, I played two rounds this weekend with the Axiom 105 S on Elyte HL irons. I think I am sold (on the whole set for now, but certainly the Axioms).

I have tried out virtually every competing shaft--KBS TGI 100, UST Recoil Dart 105, SF i110, MMT 105, etc. Hard to describe why any particular shaft might be "better" than another shaft. But suffice it to say that when taking into account feel, launch, spin, dispersion and any other factors, the Axiom 105 kind of stands above them all for me in this early testing. Simply really impressive in all areas.

Yes, I know they are expensive. And not easy to demo perhaps. But for anyone looking to switch from steel to graphite in this 95-115g range, or anyone playing one of the other competing shafts, I do think it is a worthy exercise to try out the Axioms. Callaway offers the Axiom 105, and is running a 50% trade-in bonus plus 10% off iron sets right now (on the Elytes, Apex and others). Pretty good opportunity to give the Axioms a try if interested. YMMV.

I am still in the testing phase of AXIOM 105s and soft steping them 2x. They are coming down to 99gramm in cut length which is the lower end of the OK spectrum from what I am looking for in shaft weight.

I was trying the 75s Version and pushed the swing weight up to D5 just to feel more weight but the 105s Version feels better for me. My swing speed is only about 80mph with the 7i. Which is a bit slow for the 105stiff, i wish I could get them in regular. With 2x soft step the but end is still stiff but the overall feel is on the better end of spectrum.
I generate more hight and more spin with my longer irons than with the MMT. But interesting the distance in average is the same. Even the green Hit with the 6i is a one hop and stop.

Yes I did and still do. I am swapping around with a GD Tour AD Di Hybrid. So two very top Level shafts to choose from. The Axiom feels completely different and the control is top Level. But Overall the hybrid at the same weight like the irons feels heavy at the total weight. The GD 85 hybrid shaft is full 20g lighter and feels more lively.
so Overall the Axiom is a very good hybrid shaft, but for my personal feel I the 105 is a bit to heavy and the 75 is a bit to light.

Surprisingly I didn't love my trial with them. Felt really clunky. Recoils feel better to me but that's my 2 cents.

And counterpoint—these are still by a good margin the best shafts I have played, steel or graphite. And in the graphite realm, I just much prefer the Axioms to Recoils of all stripes, and also prefer the Axioms to Steelfibers, MMT, KBS, etc.

I am going to try them out soft-stepped just to see any impact, but have no issues with them straight in.

YMMV of course.

How would you compare these to the 105s MMT? I know you said they are better, but just wondering if you can quantify a bit (I know it’s hard, shafts are so subjective). I have a set of Mizuno 243s with the 125 stiff MMT, but I haven’t had a chance to demo the Axioms yet. I’m also considering dropping down a weight class as Father Time continues to kick my Word not allowed :).

Yeah, this one is a tough one to describe. After switching to graphite, I played Steelfibers for a few years (i110 and i95), then played MMT 105 S for a couple of years. Also some time in there mixed in with Recoil Dart 105, Catalyst 100, etc.

The MMT 105 were great, and I had a good run with them. They were a bit harsh feeling perhaps, though not something that bothered me. I think it was more the left/right dispersion. I was on or close to a decent number of greens, but I was very often further right or further left than I would like. Especially off the tee on par 3’s, I was very often over-cooked appreciably to the right (I am a lefty).

With the Axiom 105 S, I now fully expect to be on the green when I step up to a par 3. Much higher % of greens hit, off the tee and off the deck. They look great, they feel great. And the dispersion is just tighter. I am not all of a sudden hitting every green, but my iron play has been much better with the Axioms. Perfectly honest, I don’t see myself playing different shafts anytime soon. YMMV.

@jeffrey r same experience here… I have to soft step the Axiom for a better feel. But results are great.

I have now given a good testing of Axiom 105 S soft-stepped once, and I think I am sold on the soft-stepping. They are smooth straight in, but with just a fraction of harshness for me. The soft-stepping seems to remove that bit of harshness, with no real ill effect on performance. Still loving the Axioms overall, and they are a great pairing with the Elyte line.

For the 75 is too light and 105 is to heavy crowd.  Also a 125 in stiff flex.

Really want to test the 125 stiff.  I had the 105 stuff, but just felt a bit light.   Just hate the cost to give them a shot

Anyone have any recommendations on shafts to switch out of axiom 125x’s?

love the ball flight on the axioms but I’ve broken 3 shafts underneath the ferrule and I’m getting pretty frustrated always being out a club for repairs.

Check some of the other threads. Just search for "axiom" in titles and threads and you'll find recommendations. Love the results I get from my Dart V 120g Xs, and they're a regular mention in those threads, but there are other options, so worth reading some of the detailed feedback.

I do believe Axiom started making the taper tip available for direct order because of how often they were failing when adapted from the .370 tip, but obviously still looking at $105+ a shaft, so yet another reason to look around before going all in if you're doing a whole set anyway.

That's a build issue if they are breaking there. I believe the concensus is these play like X100's if going back to steel.

I’m sure it is. Callaway has been warranting them but they no longer carry the 125x so they have to custom order it from Fuji which takes a bit. Recently I’ve re broke clubs that were just warrantied by them so they clearly just have no clue how to handle these shafts.

MMT 125 TX was said to be based on the profile of DGX100, I would suggest a demo of one of those.

Steelfiber 125 is a stiffer bottom section version of DG.  Its stiff enough in the lower half that you could possibly (likely?) get away with i125 stiff.  Again, trying them is the only way to know.

If demo is hard to locate, just build a demo club of your own?  This is the path I went on for most of the last 25 years.  It was hard to find xstiff iron shafts to try, back in the day.  That still applies, when you're looking at graphite options.

They're not a direct equivalent, but the Recoil Proto 125 can still be found by companies who are clearance-selling what they have left in house, with UST moving to the Dart and Dart V.
