Club Champion UK - Glasgow

I guess I'll post this here, for any of the UK users of the forum to see what the Club Champion fitting process is like in  the UK since they have opened a couple of stores.

This is my review of the Glasgow store, looks like the sales tactics and poor customer service have made it's way over here now.

 

" I went for a full bag fitting recently, just to see what the script is with my current set up and if any improvements or adjustments could be made. The fitting itself was okay, tried different heads and shafts before settling on one that seemed more efficient. I think the fitter was being pretty selective with shots, and started deleting shots off the system to try and narrow dispersion. I can understand deleting complete mishits or shanks but there was a few that were selectively deleted which rang alarm bells to me. Was a fairly fun process overall. I was kept informed as to what tweaks were being made to the clubs as we were going sometimes and had the data explained it me very well. We didn't try different grips nor was that discussed at any stage which is disappointing.

I wasn't feeling too pushed to purchase but I did explain a couple of times that since my current clubs were all relatively new that I'd be reluctant to make a change unless there was a significant improvement.

Once the fitting was completed I asked for the specs of the clubs to be sent over to myself including loft, lie etc and I mentioned that I'd be in touch by the end of the week with a decision on whether to go ahead or not. I also asked for copies of the Trackman reports so I could take another look at them and analyse whether it would be worth purchasing in terms of cost vs performance.

I did receive a copy of the build the next day via e-mail however there was no copy of the Trackman report and no information on lie angle/loft etc. What I actually received in the e-mail was a quote. See below,

"Mizuno JPX  923 Hot Metal, 5-PW+GW, Custom Nippon 950GH Shaft, Golf Pride Tour Velvet Grip"

First of all, what does 'custom' even mean? I was told the price quoted is a standard price for the irons as the shaft is not an upcharge shaft, so what does custom even mean if the shafts are no different to what I could get from Mizuno or elsewhere?

Secondly, the email with the build has not given me info on lie angles, lofts, lengths etc which I clearly asked for and was told by the fitter that they would include in the e-mail.

Thirdly, no sign of the Trackman reports, which I also asked for and was told they would be included.

Lastly, the price quoted was £910, and from a quick look online, places like Clubhouse Golf, I can get them custom built to whatever spec I desire with the shafts and whatever lie I want a little bit cheaper.

As I paid £200 for the fitting, to not even receive a detailed copy of the build was majorly disappointing and some would say suspicious and ultimately made my decision not to go ahead and purchase the irons an easy one. I replied to the e-mail asking for information on the loft/lie etc and the Trackman reports but have not received a response. I wonder why! I would have thought this would have been a pretty basic thing to do after someone has paid for a fitting, but it seems sadly not. "

 

Anyone heading to the UK stores I'd be very careful.
