long sleeve shirt vs sun sleeves

As a sun sensitive person, I started wearing UPF protective long sleeve shirts last year.  Have never tried the sun sleeves.  

Which do you prefer, and why?

 

And how come it's only the women on tour who seem concerned about the sun and not the men?  I'm assuming it's an ego thing, or afraid of looking weird.  You only see a couple guys wearing wide brim hats.

I prefer Sparms shawls. More comfortable than sleeves and much cooler than shirts (assuming you wear a polo over the LS sun shirt).

Mark me down solidly in the sun sleeve category.  I much prefer the compression the sun sleeves provide over the looseness of standard long sleeve shirts.  My dad has to go to the dermatologist monthly to get spots burned off due to sun damage, so I'm doing my best to avoid that happening to me.

Sun sleeves!!!!  Long sleeve shirts tend to be "sloppy" and do not fit like the sleeves.

 

I use the UVoider brand sleeves.   They last 50 rounds of golf or more.   Highly recommended.

Long sleeve polo shirt sleeves tend to be looser, and, longer compared to sun sleeves. I prefer sun sleeves, partly due to me having shorter arms, plus, I can take the sun sleeves off, if I don't need them.

Most shirts offer very little UV protection.

Only what they are rated for. UPF 30 or UPF 50.  Thicker golf polos or 1/4 zips probably even more, but aren't appropriate for warm weather play.

I have a tattoo sleeve, and wear the Nike UV sleeve on just that arm every round. 
Long sleeve shirt would be way too warm to wear, but the sleeve makes it tolerable.

I NEVER play with my forearms uncovered anymore, and I’ve tried just about everything.  Sparms shoulder wraps have turned up to be the best answer by far for me.  I’m 6-1/180, and the XXL size is great, though XL works, too.

 

They are a higher cost, for sure, but the shoulder wrap just beats the heck out of sleeves for comfort and not having to adjust them.

 

The big surprise, at least for me, is that I stay cooler in the summer heat than when my arms were bare, AND my hands stay dry because sweat isn’t rolling down off my arms.  I don’t even go to the range without them on now.

I wear the uv cooling sleeves nearly every day.  I'm either golfing or cycling.

 

Besides, my dermatologist says so. Sleeves and a wide brim hat (Stetson).

I rarely wear a long sleeve polo. 'Don't really like how the sleeves hang. In cooler temps I wear an Under Armor UV base layer, and a short sleeve polo over that. When it gets hot I swap the base layer for generic sun sleeves. Wide brim straw hat is standard for every round unless it's raining, and then I don the Gore-tex bucket hat.

I’ve been using sun sleeves (Nike & FJ) for a year or two and have been using a few sun hoodies in the summer when hanging out in the yard with the kids. I have a few patagonia & a newer johnnieO & they seem pretty comfortable/cool; thinking about trying them out on the course now that hoodies are becoming more common & acceptable to play in.

Sun sleeves all the time here in the heat of Phoenix.  Another Cyclist and golfer. 

 

At least I can ditch the sleeves after the  UV danger zone time or have to go into a store and be the only person wearing long sleeved shirt in the summer.

When it’s humid, long sleeve works a bit better for me. But usually always wear the UV sleeves

I also like sun sleeves — I have a large skin graft on my left arm from a serious injury, and the surgeon warned me several times that sunburn is a major problem on a skin graft and could cause complications I don’t want to know about. Since I was very fortunate that the graft worked (was not a guarantee and was fairly high risk) I don’t take any chances and always wear a sun sleeve. 
 

Have never tried the Sparms brand, need to give that a shot this year now that the sun is actually appearing.

If dress code isn't enforced, I wear a long sleeve shirt that is used for fishing. Also have sun sleeves that have gone from white to grey after repeated use. Also put an application of sunscreen on before putting them on.

When fishing I swear long sleeved fishing shirt. I mostly fish in the evenings so the temps are dropping as I fish. 

 

As mentioned I wear the sleeves golfing and cycling.  I buy the cheap ones off Amazon.  I wear then everyday so I go through lots of them.

What color do you buy? If it's 80 degrees or above, I wear white. 79 and cooler I wear a black one, which absorbs heat nicely to counter the evaporative effect.

I've only got the white ones.  I wear light merino wool long sleeve under shirts when it is cooler.

How is the sizing of these shirts?  

 

The reviews make it sound like they run small and yet the size chart shows the largest available size is a XXL for a 44" chest and I'm a 48".

I wear the Samyi sleeves. They fit better than Nike and are cooler than UA that I have tried in the past. I don't mind the idea of a shirt, but I like the fact that I can put these on at the course and take them off as soon as I finish 18, and I hate putting on sunblock because I feel like I can't the greasy feeling off of my hands.

Tried all the sleeves....bell weather cycling sleeves were the best IMO

 

I've now gone SPARMS high neck full body.....as a 5x recipient of malenoma

 

I absolutely HATE dealing with sleeves during a round. I spend more time pulling up sleeves than anything - no mater the size- they all fall down on my forearms

I'm a 48 chest and I wear the XXLs.  Good fit for me.

I go with a long sleeve shirt under a golf shirt when it's cooler and sun sleeves when warmer.  Basically buy whatever sleeves are cheap, and never have problems with them staying up - but that could be due to my super-ripped arms  😁.

I have one of these.  They're nice.  I prefer the Naviskin brand.  The sleeves are too tight on my biceps or too loose on my forearms.

I wear sun slleves and also LS shirts.  My favorite LS Golf shirt that is very lightweight, breathes well, and is stylelish is Columbia's Slack Tide

I wear the LS Shirt when temps are  60 - 70 deg F temps and very sunny.  Sun sleaves generally 75 and above.  When I wear slleves, I only wear white.
