Work Trip in Toronto - Time for One Round

I'll be coming into Toronto next month for some meetings.  I'll have time to play one round on Monday after I arrive and am looking for recommendations on where to play.  I think I've narrowed it down to either Eagles Nest or one of the TPC courses (I'm leaning Heathlands).  If you could choose only one round, where would it be?

 

I'll have my car so getting somewhere outside of the city isn't a problem.  Last year they put us up in a hotel in the Markham/Richmond Hill area.  I would like to keep travel to that area around an hour.

If you're in Markham/Richmond Hill area then Eagles Nest will be the closest and TPC could be a bit of a stretch with Toronto's Traffic but the value at TPC is probably better honestly, on most top lists they rank around the same so hard to see why Eagle's Nest can be 2x the price.

 

If you're in Markham there is Angus Glen, Watson's Glen and Royal Ashburn near by. They are not as highly rated as TPC or Eagles on ranking lists but I've heard they are really nice and on my list to play this year. They are also much closer so driving time and traffic won't be as bad.

If you are willing to use the Toll highway, TPC Toronto is about an hour from Richmond Hill/Markham.  It will cost about $22-25 each way.  Personnaly I like the Heathlands course over Eagles Nest, the latter is also more expensive.  Angus Glen is overated, even though it held a Canadian Open.

Angus Glen South Course is still one of my favorites. It's about 15 minutes from Richmond Hill.

 

They also have a great facility with excellent range, restaurant, showers, etc.

Should add TPC is at Spring rate right now which is $95 instead of $130 but not sure how long that runs for. Also Hoot is closed for a few more weeks until it can get a bit more sun since it's so tree lined. 

 

I'm playing 36 there first week of May.

Agreed on the remarks about Eagles Nest.  There are some pretty nice views, etc., and conditions are good, but I don't see why I would play it again over any of the TPC courses.

 

I take it whoever you work for/are meeting with don't have private connections?  Cause there is a whole world that opens up in Toronto in that case.

I actually booked Eagle's Nest for a round for a friend's birthday and a cheaper rate now vs peak time but still up there. 

 

OP could also maybe look at Copper Creek, rates are lower right now but tee times book fast. 

 

If you do Copetown it's 14 days booking in advance.

I was looking at tpc, too, but our hotel this year is close to 2 hours away. 

 

No private connections that I know of.  We're headquartered in Toronto, but I don't work a lot of people from that office.

Price isn't awful for Eagle's Nest right now anyways plus the time and cost to go to TPC kinda washes the price of the round anyways. I'm playing 5/6 so can give you an idea on conditions, been raining here a bit so may be soft but grounds may be happy.

Played Eagle's Nest this past weekend, course is nice and definitely tricky first time out. Was in solid condition did have over a week of rain not long ago so low areas are quite wet and marked off accordingly.

 

The one thing that may be a disappointment is 16 is a temp green and 17 is a temp tee box as they make some changes to those holes.

 

If you still play bring lots of balls if you are not very accurate off the tee.

Staying in the Church-Wellesley area next week and thinking of brining the sticks for a round.

 

Any suggestions for a public course that allows a spectator?
