Looks very cool and I would like to support them... but I don't understand how they are still going with $329 when UST Mamiya and KBS both have similar products now in the $100-$150 range. I'll take 3 of the UST Mamiya shafts all day.

one-ships.jpgTheir products are definitely expensive. Ive never gamed one of their shafts so can’t really speak on if they are worth it or not. I have a fitting booked in late June with them so will be excited to see if it lives up to the hype

The difference is torque. Nobody is advertising 1* torque except BGT. The big message behind the BGT stability shaft is that reduced torque helps improve face control on off center strikes. All the other putter shafts out there are higher torque, even steel. The problem is feel. The original BGT stability shaft felt super stiff and was (IMO) devoid of feel. The science behind reduced torque in a putter shaft makes sense, but it has to have some feel (unless you are Bryson). The cool part about graphite is that torque and flex can be adjusted independently. Sounds like BGT is trying to address the feel issue by making a shaft that will have a softer overall flex while maintaining 1* torque for high level torsional stability.

The MMT putter shaft is 1.6 torque and just over a hundred bucks, feels nice too.

How many putts a year is that 0.6 degrees of extra torque gonna cost someone?

Graphite putter shafts already seem a bit iffy in terms of helping performance, going well over a 100$ seems ridiculous.

I'm with you. There is a lot of hype in putter shaft tech. Every weekend you see the best players in the world dominate with a classic chrome stepped steel putter shaft. The only thing I am willing to concede is that graphite, low torque, ultra stiff, counterbalanced, etc. will give you a different feel. If that feel gives you confidence when you are rolling the rock, then it may be worth it. Not sure there is as shaft out there that provides universal benefit to every golfer.

On a related tangent, I put a MMT 105 4 iron shaft in a putter that feels nice. Going for a long counterbalanced "Ricky" build. Thought about buying a dedicated graphite putter shaft, then I saw the loose 4 iron shaft in my garage and decided "good enough".

All these new putter shafts are stiff and low torque. They aren't complicated. That's not a design that requires lots of research and testing. Sure they're slightly different and have different feels but I don't think there's any significant performance difference between them. And certainly not anything that justifies the $300-$400 price point.

The PXG M16 Shaft has torque right around 1.0 and is $100.

BGT has really missed the mark here imo. I think people will switch to other shafts just as i have. You can sell a used BGT for $200 and get a couple shafts. As the above posted said...2 or 3 shafts for the price of 1 is hard to argue with.

But have you heard what the pxg causes some heads to sounds like?  Causes quite a few to sound like a tin can.  Only two budget shafts I’ve used/installed and consider good are the UST and the KBS.  I installed a KBS into a build this weekend and it felt nice.  The UST is what I recommend to most who don’t want to spend LAGP or stability money.

No I havnt rolled one yet. I think I will buy and install over the summer.  Did you roll it with a PXG putter or on something else?

When I was getting fit for my putter at PXG we kept swapping back and forth between the M16 and a standard shaft. I was using a Battle Ready Gunboat head. Absolutely no difference in sound at all between the two.

Well that 0.6° of torque that you don’t think makes a difference can cause 1.25” inches per 10 feet off line. So that’s a little more than a quarter of a cup per 10 feet. This is assuming that that no loss of energy is caused from the additional twisting when the miss occurs.

At the end of the day you have to ask is it worth the extra money for a better shaft that could help you hit it closer to the hole and potentially make more putts instead of lipping putts out. I’ll take my chances spending the little extra knowing my ball is rolling better and I know I’ll make the extra up taking money off others.

Tried Stability One in my x5.5 and ended up going back to LAGP after a week. It didn’t feel bad but it felt somewhat hollow vs LAGP. Had I never tried the LAGP shaft, and started with Stability One in that putter I probably would have loved it. I’m chalking it up to a case of being used to one feel. Stability one is definitely a great option, it just didn’t work in the one putter I tested it in. Might swap it in to another soon to try again.

I guess you have to trust the company?   For some reason if you don't trust them maybe don't buy their product?

FWIW, I've been to their facility in the DFW area and have seen their torque machine.  This was a couple of years ago, but they use it to show the difference in torque between their shaft and say a Stroke Lab shaft from Odyssey.  Really cool facility and even better putter fitting if you are in the area.

If the epoxy comes out just from knocking depends on the inner surface of the shaft. And if it is carbon / graphite composite the inner surface is perfect for epoxy to stick and glue for ever.
The BST carbon I did assembled for a friend of mine came with the Metall Part in front and it was closed somewhere behind the ferrule of Carbon Part.
