Iron fitting or sole design?

Looking for some opinions on my iron fitting and purchase.  Long story but I won a full bag fitting from True Spec Golf in December and signed up for a mid Feb appointment.  I had been playing +.5 and 2up in my irons for about 20 years (I’m 6’2 with long arms).

After spending some time on irons my fitter says I think you’ve been playing the wrong specs and that’s why you miss left. I had told him my miss is left.  I was hitting up on the ball, launching too high. This was not a surprise to me. I wasn’t swinging great that day but not terrible either.  We settled on ZX5/7 combo 4-7 in the 5’s and 8-P in the 7’s with Oban CT 115 S+ and .5 flat at standard length. My prior set was MP-18sc with C-Taper Lite S.

I’m now 2.5 months in but haven’t made up my mind on the irons.  I think I’ve adjusted to length although still raise up on occasion.   The ZX5/7 are plenty forgiving across the face and I appear to be marking the club in the middle.  The left miss is rare now, in fact I wish I could turn it over a little easier.  Now the miss tends to be a thin, right miss.

My complaint is the irons feel clunky going through the turf.  I’ve never been a steep player and need to do a better job of hitting down.  Is there anything in the fitting you guys see?  Just need more time?  Or the V-Sole just might not be a good fit for me?

I’m loving my driver, hybrid and wedges.  Wedges are SM9’s 50/08F, 56M bent to 55 and 60M. All wedges are 35.5 length, standard lie with good turf interaction.

T100s was 2nd place in the fitting.

Two things.

First a three degree swing flat in the lie is pretty big (4 degree flatter overall when you include length). I would consider going to +1 upright and see how you like it. +.5" makes a club play effectively 1 degree more upright so by moving your current lie to +1 you effectively split the difference between your old set and fitting for lie angle. Reason for this suggestion is your clunky feeling may be the toe digging to much. On a matt this isn't really noticeable but it's something you pickup on course. This may help you turn the ball over some as well.

Second, the thin miss. When your more on the tall side one thing I notice hitting in the simulator it's easier to hit shorter irons. I think this is just because you can hit more balls quicker and stay loose, but it doesn't always translate well to the course. You have two options, lengthen your items or try adding a lead tape to the head to make the play a little heavier. I like adding 3g to similate .25" extra length. Also the cheaper option and easiest to move back from.
