Nippon Modus 115x, any good?

I dont see many of these iron shafts out in the wild, just wondering why? does anyone have much experience with them?

I play them. Was fitted originally in to 105S. Swing speed increased and wanted something a bit more stable but the same profile so went up in weight and flex.

They are fantastic if the profile fits you. Nice flight and dispersion when striking the ball well.

I hit them in a fitting and thought they felt great. It's a mid bend profile with stable butt and tip sections. They ballooned on me slightly but would be a great option for someone who needs to add a little height and spin. Nippon shafts are always smooth, these included. Worth trying for a fit. I could see a KBS user being a potential fit.

I think they're relatively new in the last 1-2 years and Mizuno might be the only OEM offering them as stock or even an option, despite other OEMs offering the lighter 105 version.

I played the 115x last year and was a big fan, but sold them with my Mizuno’s. They’re very smooth with a subtle kick at impact. Mid-high trajectory and pretty piercing flight. The weight felt spot on for me.

Was in KBS Tour S+ for years prior. Started this season with DG120 X100, which felt sorta similar to the Modus, but definitely a bit firmer/tighter. Wouldn’t be surprised if I end up back in the 115’s some day.

How did flight and spin compare between the 115x vs your current DG120 X100? I was looking for a set of the DG120 to try out but ended up with Modus 120x and still wonder.

@infinii FWIW I played DG120 X100 and Modus 120 least a few rounds each and my experience was that DG120 X100 felt soft in the handle and then pretty linear mid through tip. I have a mid/late release so was getting a relatively low trajectory but reasonable spin. Modus 120 winds up being a similar flight for me and lower spin, just felt a little bit softer still through mid.

Modus 115X felt firmer in the handle, and a slight mid bend, with a very reasonable mid to mid/high flight. Almost like the full weight DG just 10 grams lighter, whereas the DG120 felt different with the soft handle.

All are great but consider if you tend to prefer a high bend, softer handle or otherwise, and certainly test.

I was fitted for the Modus 115x.  An alternative shaft I tried and liked as well was the DG105x.  I liked the feel of the Modus better, there was a little bit more feel to it.  The dg105x felt very slightly firmer for me, but more stable.  I was getting similar numbers with both and ball flight was nice and high which I wanted.

Just ordered a set of Paradym irons with the 115x, looking forward to getting them out for a couple of rounds and seeing how they are.

I also wanted to try the Oban CT115, but no shop/fitter has them in stock around my area.

DG launched lower, but both shafts peaked pretty high for me. Modus gave me Project X flight if you’re familiar with that. I had more spin with DG which seemed to result in shorter carry.

@STank724 Curious how you found spin on the Modus 115X vs the $-Taper 125 you have listed in your signature. I just installed $-Taper 120 to try out and I feel like I'm spinning the heck out of them.

Similar. Can’t compare apples to apples – Modus 115 were in Mizuno 223s and S-Taper in Cobra CBs – but overall flight has been similar for me. In both sets the ball hits and stops  close to the pitch mark (except for when I get lazy and hit a wipey one that spins up short and right and backs up off the green).

After one practice and one round with my new mizunos JPX tour with the M115x I must say they are perfect for me.

I know its too early but accoring to GolfMetrics, I gained +0.5 in the last round versus -1.9 average in the previous 5 round with the old irons.

Now looking for a wedge shaft match. Input welcome.

I find the Modus 125 wedge to be nice. I will be putting BGT ZNE's in my all future wedges but my 54(bent to 55) has the 125 and it's awesome. similiar feel but a touch softer than the 115X.

I also have the 115 wedge shaft in my 52 that I use course dependantly and I really enjoy that one as well. It comes in around 122g where the 125 is 133g. So it's closer in weight to the 115X's if you like weight being tighter between clubs.

Had the Modus 125 S all the way previously , with regular results in both irons and wedges. Too much left for my over the top issued swing. The 115X corrected that. Bought complimentary Mizuno wedges that came with TIS400 but always hated that shafts, now wondering if the M125W is something like it...

Maybe CWebb advice is good.

I fit into a 105s but need a heavier shaft. Do you think I should stick with s in the 115 or drop down to regular?

The S would make total sense! They are not stiffer really, same profile.

Yeah Modus 115x felt similar to X100 except for weight, especially for 8-P. 7 and longer had a touch of mid bend and still a stiff handle. 8-P felt very similar to PX 6.0.

if you like PX 6.0 but want a little feel/softness in the handle I’d recommend DG 120 X100 or PX LS 6.0. Both are about 120g and similar profile. Slightly soft handle with linear mid through tip. Modus 115X certainly worth trying too.

Yes but it’s a small difference. Modus 115X is still a mid bend profile while PX is stiff mid, which will be a nuanced feel difference between them.

That makes sense. If I played KBS $ Taper 120 stiff and KBS Tour 120 stiff I’m guessing it should be an easier transition to PX 6.0 maybe so? If Modus 115X is more mid soft

Yes but I find the 125 variants of Tour and $Taper to be closer to PX 6.0 in weight and stiffness. The KBS shafts will just have a higher balance point and softer tip. Tour 125 has more feel though.

that’s not to say that you may not like Modus 115X though. I bounce back and forth between PX 6.0 and DG 120 X100 without a problem. It’s just the pronounced mid bend shafts that I tend to not get along with, like PX LZ or even Modus 115 Stiff which I find much much softer than the X

Is the handle much softer In DG120 X100 versus PX 6.0?

is balance similar? I tried Px 6.0 and like it.

i don’t like S200 in vokeys so dubious about DG120 event tho I'm assuming DG120 X100 should be much tighter for full swings?

It's been a while since I hit it but I thought Modus 115X had a stiffer handle/butt section than PX 6.0 and certainly more so than DG 120 X100. Balance seemed pretty neutral.

DG 120 X100 will feel stiffer than DG S200 even at the lower 120 weight.

i ended up trying DG120 X100 and now I’m really torn between those and PX 6.0. DG feels better on 3/4 shots.
